I know a lot of people hold a bit of a grudge towards Harvey Elliot because of how he left us, but this loan situation has been a complete fiasco and I do feel for the guy.

There really needs to be some form of arbitration in situations like this, as it's not fair to just let a player rot because the two clubs don't want to honour their sides of an agreement.

Hopefully he'll find a new club in the summer as Liverpool clearly want rid.

£35m? No way he's worth that.

How many times do young players leave for big clubs and better prospects only to see themselves sidelined? I didn't like the way HE left but I think he was heavily influenced by his parents. I do hope he gets his career back on track soon.

I think he probably could be, and he has an eye for goal which we miss. Unfortunate given the circumstances he left us in because it would be a controversial signing if we did bring him back

They should pay us to take him off their hands. Although the way he left with two fingers in the air not sure we are the Club for him.

Regardless of the two fingers (and I dont like him,) is he that great a player to have a team built around him?
I dont think so

Seems people don't believe in second chances, he was very young and foolish that he apologised for. I for one would be happy to give him that chance.

We have enough small weak physical players don't need another one also he is slower than Cairney

Know what you mean Ray.
For the reasons you say above it's hard to see him as a 90 minute player.
Really good as an impact sub, but you wouldn't pay a big fee for him on that basis.

Rat who disrespected our club and is now finding out the grass isn't greener. Not welcome back in my book.

Arrogant, overweight and over-rated. Good to get shot of this waster at the time

At the core of this story is that when a premier league team plays particularly well, as Villa have done this season and their players stay relatively fit, a very good footballer or two are going to find themselves without much to do on matchday.  Throw in an unusual contract arrangement and it's no surprise it's HE.

Which of us would like to be judged by the most regrettable thing we did as a teenager?

I look at Harvey Elliot and there's three evidence points about what he does on the pitch.

At a young age, people who know a lot about football could see that he had standout quality.

He scored five goals at a U-21 finals tournament and was player of the tournament.  He gets in the box and shoots and when he's hot he's hot.  Which of our current midfield can we say that about?

When he came on with fifteen minutes to go against us last season, he sorted out Liverpool's dysfunctional midfield and got them back in the game.  Danny Murphy levels of game 'grip'.

That's enough to be confident that he's got a better than average chance of being quite a force to be reckoned with.  If he's a little older and wiser for having to deal with adversity, he'll be just fine.  If he's incapable of that, it's doubtful.

I'd take the chance.

It's amazing how many adults have forgotten that they were once teenagers and did silly things.

It was ok because when I was a teenager there was no internet ... no Social Media and very few camera's ...

Thank God !!  ::tongue::

He was a bit of a scrote as a teenager and the way he left was a bit unsavoury with stuff that happened behind the scenes, but he's undoubtedly a very talented footballer. The biggest issue I think we have at the moment is that we're losing our ball playing talisman in TC and we need to find a long term replacement. For me HE does fit that profile; got an eye for a pass, can get around the pitch and knows where the onion bag is and would be able to play in that TC role. Perhaps not a starter when we go away to the big six unless we play him as a #10 but he would in a midfield three be able to play on the left side and get us moving the ball better. Certainly I can see a scenario where he thrives with Lukic and Berge behind him giving him cover and recycling the ball so he can be a playmaker, and potentially he gets the best out of Lukic making those darting runs forward because he'd be brave enough to try and pick the pass out.

Unfortunately for me, I actually think that the way we play under Silva currently would be a waste of his talents, we need someone willing to take more risks or be more direct in our build up to get the best out of him & our wingers. Whether that's Silva or a new coach is another question entirely.

... just until the next 'big' club comes calling and mugs us off yet again? No Thanks.

Like Pat Roberts, he'll learn the hard way, and perhaps someone that the new batch of youngsters should read about. The best thing for him is to be an example.

I do like the fact they still use Pat's Fulham pic on wiki though.
