When one looks at the big boys like Pep at City, and a few others,I wonder how they would fare managing on a shoestring budget for loans and free transfers.
Example of late being Mark Hughes who has failed to take Carlisle up from the National League.
It's not so easy is it when your not being bankrolled in the transfer windows.
I read recently that Pep got the 'ump because City were 'only' 7th in the list of big spending clubs. He wanted to be to number 1. Pop. (poor old Pep)
I suspect that in the lower leagues there is necessarily more emphasis on coaching skills and man management. Less opportunity to "buy" success through transfers and more emphasis on developing the talent available.
Of course the reverse may also be true, how many lower league managers have what it takes to handle the mega budget transfer markets and egos at the upper echelons of the game?

One would never know, unless they were given the chance I suppose.
But the topic is about how would the big boys do in lower league.
EG..Marco at Crewe,Emery at Harrogate.
I suppose we'd never know as they won't end up there.
I think Pep admitted in an interview a few years ago he needed the best players to implement his style and couldn't do what lower/mid table managers do.

Nail and head spring to mind.
Precisely the likes of Pep need an open cheque book as a crutch to hold them
up.
If he was told he had to manage Carlisle or others in their situation in the lower echelons of the English Football Pyramid.
He would run a mile, you wouldn't see him for burning rubber.
I wonder how much it cost City to win the FA Cup.

Tremendous manager/coach but his constant spitting shows a man of no class!
We must not forget the pressures that are also on managers like Pep, they have an awful lot of world class players with super duper ego's, he has to get those players to be together as a team, look at Rosenior he could not handle that at Chelsea, I would not think those players had much respect or faith in him. I guess it's easier having funds to do the job.

I think Roy would have done well, he had a very clear and well implemented coaching ethos. He also showed the ability to put an arm round players and get the very best out of them, probably more than they knew they were arable of.
It's all relative. There are teams in all the leagues, including non league, with bigger budgets than other teams in the same division. The best example of course is Wrexham and look where money has taken them.

Money yes,but would the likes of Pep be able on no budget.
There are 5 clubs in league 2 and National league on the brink of going under.
