Title: FoF MOTM Wolves v Fulham and post match thread = Bassey
Post by: love4ffc on May 17, 2026, 04:54:44 PM
Fulham controlled the first half, but I still felt Wolves would score first. I was surprised to see Robinson take the penalty, but he stayed composed, showed no hesitation, and calmly finished it.

In the end, it was not to be. A point is still a point, but here it feels like a major opportunity lost. For me, that ends Fulham's season and any realistic hope of pushing for a European place.

Who was your FoF MOTM and why?

I went with Robinson as he looked half decent and did great with the penalty.  A lot of players really did look like they couldn't be bothered.

The way this side has been set up and played, since Saints knocked us out of the cup is terrible.
We would be struggling to be halfway in the Championship.

Not a single player able to pass the ball
And

The players aren't up to it..it is the lack of quality in the squad that is so appalling

Toss up between Robinson & Bassey! Worryingly both of these are defenders against the bottom team! Might sum this performance up in all honesty. So many abject performances especially from the midfield and forwards difficult to know where to start.

Glasner - closure over his future, Palace in a European final.

Silva - same old will he won't he nonsense for half a year, Fulham on the beach.

Unless Chelsea win both of their last two games or Brentford win against Liverpool at Anfield, and I can't see either of those things happening, a win against Newcastle would have been enough for Europe had we won today. Such a missed opportunity. You can't miss chances like the ones Iwobi and Berge missed.

We weren't at our best but we've created 2 sitters for our players and also had a penalty on top of that. That was more than enough to get a win, but annoyingly we took one of those 3 chances.

He most certainly was not. And there were a couple of other occasions where he got beat far too easily. Nice penalty but not a very good day for him on the defensive end.

Bassey was my MotM.

I felt taking off Berge for Kevin was a mistake. In the second half, we lost cohesion as a team, and looked lightweight in midfield and vulnerable defensively, while having too many flair players on the pitch unsure of the team structure and getting in each other's way, so none of them made a telling contribution. If Silva wanted Kevin on, it should have been more of a like for like substitution, with Bobb going off.

I am content with all four of our central defenders in the squad and don't want any of them to leave, but after the slagging off Andersen received, Diop on at least three occasions today made bad errors either being caught in possession or passing to the opposition in our own half or in our penalty area, for which we we went unpunished. I think Diop is a decent defender at this level, but it shows that players get better in the eyes of some fans when they don't play.  All defenders make mistakes, the  judgement is usually based on whether the opposition take advantage of them.

Sure, but the bar Diop had to pass was don't go two-footed into a challenge while we're a man up. Which I would argue he cleared with flying colors.

There's switching off on a pass and then theres doing something boneheadedly stupid.

To those saying the Berge sub was wrong, I agree. That's because Iwobi is terrible in the middle. He does make some nice passes, but our defensive structure is terrible with him in the middle.

Exactly. Of course Andersen isn't perfect (and it's fair to be frustrated with the red card last week) but he's comfortably a better all around CB than Diop.

We need a better CB than either Andersen or Diop to partner Bassey. Shame Cuenca is also a LCB as that would solve things. But, we need to ship one RCB out and get a new one in summer.

Bassey easily for me. Robinson is at least recovering some of his pace but was at fault for their goal and made a couple of other defensive slips, Castagne looked dangerous first half but seemed to fade, Lukic did ok. Most of the rest were either bang average or, in the case of Muniz and ESR, dreadful.

And yet another opportunity goes begging, we've had so many chances to do this because everyone else is poor, we always wet the bed and crumble under pressure it's just so frustrating, so near yet so far

The difference today is this was against the worst team in the division, is it the squad depth or Marco probably a mix of  both but we don't deserve Europe we've been bang average all season

Just don't know what's the right decision for us right now no matter what it's a roll of the dice and cross your fingers to hope for the best

Don't trust the board to change transfer policy, don't trust them to. make the right decision on appointing a new manager and don't trust Marco to be 100% committed even if he does sign on again which is looking unlikely

I'm off home for a beer ::scarf::

Bassey by a mile!
Castange gets a lot of stick on here but with a run of games he's looking an OK PL RB.
Lukic is on a hiding to nothing in our midfield and does a decent job most of the time but he's no creator destroyer.
Too many of the others are inconsistent, sloppy and lazy

There are some who would raise their game and be worthy selections in a better balanced team but the team (and squad) lack a positive mindset and desire to win.

Apart from a few highlights this year we are close to relegation form and this is a team that keeps on disappointing!

You keep repeating this defence. (And I could be rude and say "you know that how?"). What I would say is that I actually agree he leads the press well. However multiple fluffed passes, except the many safe short sideways ones, failure to register an assist all season and zero goal threat. Sorry but just leading a press is nowhere close to the contribution we need from him. I do think he has more ability but he is consistently failing to show it and I'm damned sure Silva's instructions don't include failing to register assists or goals.

Yep doing job he has been asked to do.

He may be doing the job asked of him but do you think Silva is actually happy with his performances because he's not actually achieved much this season.

I mean he keeps starting him. Given that Marco pretty much has him doing the exact same thing AP was doing last year, I'm more inclined to believe it's Marco and his system, at least in part.

You're right on Castagne, I've been critical of him but he's absolutely been one of our best performers across the past two months. Good on him really!

Also been about our best goal threat

Easily Bassey for me. The loss of form by Muniz is very worrying. He was the same when on loan at Middlesbrough. When on form top quality.

Playing Diop emphasised for me what a good player Andersen is. Andersen may lack pace and, occasionally, discipline but he remains a class act. As a team there may be many problems, particularly up front, but our central defence isn't one of them.

Robinson, just for his penalty.  Without it, would be another zero.

Like Diop as a defender but his inability to pass forward means the opponent has plenty of time to reform their defensive position. one thing gained, one thing lost.
