I agree, had Andersen not been a complete melon against Bournemouth we would have had 6th or 7th...
Hey Marco: Why did it take us until it no longer mattered if we played well to play well? Why couldn't we play this well for literally just one other match and we'd be in Europe and then you that would entice you to sign the bleedin' contract.

Wasn't just Anderson. All we had to do was score more than one goal against the worst team, and worst defense, in the league. That result is implied of a problem we have. We cannot sustain the attack against teams that primarily defend.
Maybe VAR cost us Europe
It was a tale of two halves really.
Before Winter break we were ruthless defensively and were well balanced. Say what you will, but Lukic and Berge provided that. They shielded Andersen and Bassey time after time and our defensive block was stronger than ever.
Harry Wilson's form was superb, but it also previewed what issues we were going to have with our strikers scoring in open play.
Our squad depth was tested in the second half and it goes to show the levels we still need to get to in order to have a chance of reaching Europe. The core players started to experience wear and tear, more injuries, you could see our intensity drop. We stopped being efficient in the attacking/final third as well. Silva said that we lost our killer instinct. We finished 7th from bottom in goals scored (47) and top 7th from goals against. I'm just not upset with that.
I understand the drama with Andersen and Bournemouth - that's just the nature of the beast, but as a player when you fail - you're reminded of how your contributions were more positive than just one moment. It takes weak players and weak mindset to think that is what defines you and the fact that we were even in contention for Europe in the first place is a tribute to players like Andersen.
If Silva leaves I'll definitely be a bit upset as I feel his ability to adapt his system to the players is something to be admired. When Pereira left, we still needed a long ball/breaking line player - in comes Andersen. When we struggled to get results from our forwards, in comes Harry Wilson. When Kevin and Chuk struggled, it came down to allowing Sessegnon to operate as a false-fullback, who netted some chances and some goals. The things he's done with someone like Sander Berge is remarkable to me. Completely changing a player from a box-to-box 8 into becoming a tempo setting 6 - who never shoots, but also rarely loses possession. It's bizarre and brilliant at the same time.
Hopefully he stays, but I'd be lying if I wasn't interested to see who else is out there and what they can do with our core players.
