Title: It’s the start of the World Cup I should be excited - but feel a tad sick
Post by: HV71 on June 11, 2026, 08:04:29 PM
... because Gianni Infantino is probably one of the most sycophantic and disgraceful leaders of any organisation on the planet. One of his staff has been treated appallingly and all he does is basically shrug his shoulders.

It is nothing more than a disgrace  - in my book he faces many other moral charges but this is the worst . What leader does that to his staff ?

We know the whole of football is going to the dogs but the lack of humanity is appalling

It's all dreadfully awful. The state of corruption in football makes integrity seem not a possibility ever again.

Don't think I'll be watching much of it. No interest in international football really. Various reasons, but just looking forward to domestic season returning and following the Fulham updates over the summer. I wish our players taking part all the best.

I won't get political obviously but between Infantino and the Orange Nonce, this tournament is more curdled than mixing lime juice with Baileys.

Absolutely. It says something about humanity that somehow we've put him in charge of governing the most popular sport in the world. Absolutely vile, shamelessly corrupt snake of a man, and we now have a horrible world cup as a consequence.

Sorry Antonee, I hope the US get absolutely spanked, dumped out at the earliest opportunity and Iran shock the world by winning the tournament

Listening to Roy Keane discussing the finer points of the game is sickmaking in view of Alf Haaland's knee....

Cant help but agree with all of the comments.  I have no interest in watching the opening game tonight, or many of the games to be honest.  My team, Scotland qualified at long last but WHY this one???  Of course, I will watch Scotland and England but thats about it for me. Other than that, I will settle for highlights when I know the result.

I will catch a game or two when Fulham players are on the pitch and just hope none get injured.

I honestly couldn't believe FIFA could appoint someone worse than Sepp Blatter, but somehow they have done.

I'm going to follow this World Cup, despite my disgust at the leaders of both the organisers and the main host country, simply because I can't keep continually boycotting them. I haven't watched a World Cup since before Russia and Qatar!

Thankfully, with the time difference, I doubt I'll be giving them much revenue in terms of watching live matches.

I will at least be filling in my wallchart this time though!

Symptomatic for FIFA at large. Absolutely disgusting human being, and the organisation he leads is so corrupt it's disgraceful. How we keep on letting these elitist aliens with zero humanity lead the greatest game in the world is beyond my understanding

How did such a nobody get to be in charge of an organisation that will get at least 14billion from this world cup. The local economies get very little but this parasitical organisation enriches itself on the back of our wonderful game. People like Blatter and Infantino stay in power by bribing (in so many ways) smaller organisations that make up FIFA who themselves are run like corrupt fiefdoms. These bribes win enough votes to keep the "king" in power and also to get the world cup into places where no one in a moral world would have put it, Qatar, Russia and now the USA.

If UEFA and others had the guts they would, like in boxing, create a rival organisation and pull the rug under this mafia style gang that run FIFA.

Well from all reports from fans attending
the Qatar, Russia world cups they felt safe.
The people of those countries were
very gracious and welcoming.

I can visualise a cartoon of this rather cynical World Cup as being an image of happy banner waving fans marching into an old fashioned mangle turned by Infantino. Emerging from the rollers are just wads of dollar bills....

Because Trump and Infantino thought they could cream even more off the real football fan but they haven't a clue about how people are struggling to make ends meet.

Infantino, corruption and ticketing are a disgrace. This morning's early game (S Korea v Czech Rep) had huge empty parts of the stadium, yet they announced a 44,900 crowd when the capacity is 45,000.

Well, THAT takes some doing tbh! Likely due to the criminal cases he faces in the UK.
The Canadians are usually very welcoming, only ever had one issue some 15 years back when my sister visited from the homeland, and we were all travelling on UK passports, driving in from Detroit, though I was resident by that time.

Advice: Avoid Pearson airport if you can, awful, absolutely awful place.

If I send you a postage stamp perhaps you would be kind enough to list all the International Airports that are not, these days, awful, absolutely awful places.

I would quite agree, though, given the usual awfulness of international airports, Pearson hold a place even lower than the normal, far, far lower.
Perhaps the larger International Airports should stand apart from the more regional/international airports.

Sky just mentioned our dodgy 5cm offside tolerance issue against Liverpool & how it was an incorrect overrule.
