Title: USA are in trouble if they play Tim Ream vs Australia
Post by: lamby on June 15, 2026, 02:23:48 AM
As an Fulham Aussie I love Tim Ream. But in the last season for us he was too slow. Having just watched Australia beat Türkiye via crazy fast Nestory Irankunda and Mohamed Touré counter attacks, I can't see how the US can play Tim Ream? Throw in some wayward crosses from a left back playing too far forward and there will be huge holes in defense!!

As a fellow Aussie Fulham fan, I hope they do play Ream and Mo and Irankunda get in behind with regularity

It's why Ream and Robinson work so well together, where one has a deficiency the other covers; speed, passing, reading of the game. He's always been really underrated and I wasn't surprised when Pep said to him "if you were ten years younger you'd play for me" (or similar).

Ream was top class in the first game and will likely be brilliant against Australia too (anyone could have a stinker but I suspect that will not be him).

It's a good thing for the USA if The Aussie team do underestimate him. Fulham still miss having a player with his poise and class in the back four.

Really looking forward to this game, personally I hope Tim starts, has a blinder and proves everybody wrong "AGAIN"

I try and make sure I'm not impolite with replies but OP others and Tim's performance have proved you wrong .

Ream - pure class - at his peak he was Beckenbauer and Moore - rolled into one. Guardiola said he'd have signed him for a reason.

Have to say I'm quite enjoying seeing Tim Ream roll back the years. He's a fine man and his calm compassion towards a stricken Michael Basham will stick in my memory as much as his footballing skills.

As this World Cup goes on his lack of pace will get targeted by teams that know what they are doing. It beggared belief that Australia didn't play their speedster from the start.  Yes, at his best he was terrific, but at his worst standard championship-level strikers seemed to decide to stand near him and then leave the pitch having scored.

But for now, what a swansong.  He'll surely be ready for a new chapter once the tournament is over.  Pochettino will need an assistant who knows the club and our owners will want a Mr Fulham continuity guy as part of a new set up.  Stranger things have happened.  We have been told the Board of Directors are addressing the managerial position.  Boards work to strategies and Fulhamerica is a relatively sound business strategy.

What a wonderful career Tim Ream has had. Like a fine wine he seems to get better with age. I haven't watched either of the US games, but reports are very favourable.
Congrats to the US on qualification to the next round along with Mexico and Canada. Scotland, unfortunately look short of quality up front so may struggle to qualify which is a shame as their fans have been a credit to their country and the UK in general. Looks like they've taken over Boston (again).

I will never hear any criticism about Tim Ream. As well as a top captain and player for us he was an excellent ambassador for his country.  ::thumb::

It's me again. Just before the KO in the USA game who was the young lady who came out to see the ref on the halfway line and why?

Only just noticed this post but it didn't go well did it? I always loved watching Tim at Fulham, his positional skills were excellent, his distribution sublime, he was a terrific defensive header of the ball and he could time a tackle.

Another class performance from Ream. Hopefully it continues deep into this World Cup!

i typed into my web browser this question:

who was the woman who met the referee at the center circle before the USA Australia game

and the AI came back with this response:

The woman who met the referee at the center circle before the game was American pop star and R&B singer Ciara. She appeared on the pitch at Seattle Stadium to conduct the honorary pre-game coin toss. Her appearance is tied to a few specific details from the match:

Official FIFA Ambassador: Ciara was recently named an official host and cultural ambassador for the FIFA World Cup 2026 premium hospitality packages.

The Seattle Connection: While she has been heavily promoting the World Cup events in Atlanta, she has deep ties to Seattle, where her husband, NFL legend Russell Wilson, played for the Seahawks. The two were seen together on the field waving to fans before kickoff.

The Coin Toss: She posed with the referee crew and flipped a special commemorative silver proof coin from the United States Mint to determine which side would kick off first.

If you are following the tournament, would you like the updated Group D standings following the USMNT's 2-0 win, or details on who they might face in the Round of 32?

I cant claim to know any of that info, but I trust that answers your question.  I find it both encouraging and somewhat scary how much up to date information can be gathered from these AI models.

TC has too much sense to play for a substandard Scotland team.

Well said Twig - seems Tim is still in full possession of all these attributes!

He's rolling back the years, always so calm and composed in possession and positioning, and links up well with Robinson - great to see the Fulham connection in action again.

Was Reams performance last night the worst individual display we've seen from any player at this years World Cup?
