Fulham aim cheeky dig at Leeds United after Harry Wilson transfer confirmed
The Welshman's free transfer to Leeds United was officially confirmed on Wednesday.
Leeds United winger Harry Wilson's former club Fulham have wished him the 'best of luck' in all but two games a season at his new home.
Wilson swapped Craven Cottage for Elland Road this summer with his free transfer to Leeds confirmed on Wednesday, 10 months after a failed deadline-day pursuit. The 29-year-old signed a four-year deal and will join up with Daniel Farke's squad - and his Welsh compatriots - for pre-season.
A five-year spell at Fulham saw Wilson develop into a Premier League-proven attacker, with 36 goals and 46 assists in 187 games for the London outfit. He left off the back of a best-ever individual campaign for the Cottagers after running down his contract, his move to West Yorkshire finally announced after a pre-arranged training camp in Portugal.
Following confirmation of the move, Fulham released a heart-warming statement in which they wished their former player well - but not for every game. They said: "Harry Wilson has left Fulham and joined Leeds United following the expiry of his contract.
"It brings the curtain down on a prolific five years in SW6 for the winger, as he departs with 82 goal involvements (36G, 46A) in 187 games for the Club...The vast majority of his strikes were special, too. From long range curlers, to last season's trivela against Crystal Palace, tap-ins weren't really part of Wilson's armoury.
"He also added a Player of the Season trophy to his collection this summer, following a career best year that saw him register 11 goals and eight assists in just 38 Premier League and FA Cup matches, a record of one goal involvement every other game. A very friendly man who always made time for the fans, Wilson departs with a fantastic Fulham legacy, and we wish him the best of luck - two games a season aside - at Leeds."
Wilson looks to have left Fulham with the best wishes of his former club, having admitted to the YEP and other local media on Wednesday he's made friends for life in London. He'll come up against some of those friends when the Cottagers come to Elland Road on December 19.
Fulham sporting director Tony Khan added: "I would like to thank Harry for his dedication and commitment to Fulham over the last five years. His flair and tenacity on the pitch made him a firm fan favourite, and his memorable goals even more so.
"He is also a truly great person and will be missed around the training ground, but we wish him all the very best for the future and thank him for his time with the Club. Thank you, Harry!"

Incomings
Not long after Fulham's 11.45pm bomba, BBC Sport's Nizaar Kinsella tweeted that Fulham's new boss is looking to bring Real Madrid trio Franco Mastantuono, full-Fran Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia to Craven Cottage. Fran Garcia promptly signed for Real Betis, but highly-rated winger Mastantuono would be on loan, Gonzalo Garcia would be permanent - and Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports believes the striker is Arbeloa's number one target.
These are the type of exciting young prospects you would hope for us to target following the new boss's arrival, so I'm all over these.
Fulham are also targeting two from relegated West Ham United.
The Guardian is reporting that the Whites are now interested in winger Crysencio Summerville, who has a £40m release clause, but face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United.
If it came to it, obviously we're bottom of the pecking order but Summerville would be a serious statement signing, although I do think we need to focus on other areas first.
One such area is striker, where West Ham's Taty Castellanos has once again been linked to Fulham (alongside Everton). This comes from Matteo Moretto, so take it with a pinch of salt but Fulham have been linked with Castellanos before. He was one of the few bright sparks for Nuno's relegated side and I think he'd be a fantastic signing.
Sticking with duos, Fulham have been linked to Japanese duo Daizen Maeda and Keito Nakamura. Falling for players who have a good World Cup is a tale as old as time, but these two certainly impressed for Japan. Fulham will need extra bodies in attack and I don't think either would cost a bomb. I wouldn't be opposed to either of these.
Outgoings
The biggest exit this week is, of course, Harry Wilson - our player of the season - heading to Leeds United.
the move was confirmed on Wednesday, and I've shared my thoughts on it before, so I'll not go over old ground. But it's the right time to say, "thanks for the memories, Harry". He's certainly given us enough of them over the last five years - who put the ball in the Brentford net?
This next one isn't so much of an outgoing, but more of a 'not coming back'. New AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim has poured cold water over any possibility of a Samu Chukwueze reunion by saying the winger will stay at the San Siro. With Arbeloa likely to want to put his own stamp on the squad, this doesn't feel like a bad thing.
Again, not a direct departure, but 18-year-old former Fulham academy goalkeeper Oliver Mayer has joined Brighton to play for their U21s. Mayer was one of the 14 players whose contracts expired at the end of June. Go well, Oliver!

Fulham new boss - Alvaro Arbeloa is Marco Silva's successor
Fulham have appointed Alvaro Arbeloa as their new manager on a three-year contract.
The 43-year-old succeeds Marco Silva, who departed Craven Cottage after five years in charge to join Portuguese side Benfica.
Arbeloa, who played for Liverpool and West Ham in England, led Real Madrid for the last 28 games of last season as they finished second in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Bayern Munich.
He left the Spanish giants at the end of 2025/26 and was replaced by Jose Mourinho, who is now in his second spell at the Bernabéu.
Former Spurs and Brentford boss Thomas Frank was linked to the Fulham job, while ex-Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna was mentioned before taking a break from the game.
The West London club are now entering their fifth consecutive season in the top-flight, having finished 11th in the table last season.
"It is a real honour for me to be embarking on this new stage at Fulham FC, the oldest club in London," Arebloa said.
"I feel a great sense of responsibility and I'm deeply grateful to Mr. Khan and Tony Khan for the trust they have placed in me with Fulham in the Premier League.
"I am really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Craven Cottage with Fulham fans and beginning pre-season with the players next week. I am sure we are going to enjoy an incredible journey together."

USA Players Must Give Up Half of Their Prize Money From the World Cup - Here's Why
After crashing out of the World Cup following a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Belgium this week, USA players are now facing the prospect of handing over half of their tournament earnings. Mauricio Pochettino's side had hoped to make a deep run this summer but came unstuck at the first serious hurdle they faced.
In the immediate aftermath, Christian Pulisic - dubbed 'Captain America' - has been among those to face the fiercest criticism for his underwhelming displays throughout the co-hosted tournament. While many supporters are still struggling to come to terms with the manner of the Stars and Stripes' exit, US legend Landon Donovan has offered an explanation for why the country continues to lag behind some of its rivals in the sport.
The real kick in the teeth for the players who helped spark football fever across the United States during the early stages of the tournament, however, is that they will ultimately see only half of their earnings. This comes despite the USA ranking as the ninth-highest earners at this year's World Cup.
Why USA Players Must Give Up 60% of their World Cup Earnings
USA's World Cup stars earned $16 million in prize money for reaching the last 16 but must split it equally with the women's team. The figure will be split between the 26 men on the World Cup roster and the 26 women who are selected to play in next year's Women's World Cup, if they qualify under Emma Hayes' stewardship.
As per Daily Mail, the men's and women's teams share World Cup prize money equally under terms of the collective bargaining agreement that was signed back in 2022. The deal was signed off after almost six years of campaigning and legal action by the women's team, spearheaded by Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, in an effort to secure equal pay.
The U.S. Soccer governing body, which pays men's and women's players $10,000 per World Cup match, will also keep 20 per cent of the prize money from this year's tournament. The remaining 80 per cent will then be divided between the men's and women's players who make their respective World Cup rosters.
On this occasion, that 40 per cent equates to $6.4m per team or $246,153.85 per player. That same division of prize funds will come into place again for any prize money the women's team picks up at the 2027 Women's World Cup.

Fulham Are Safe: But What Is Their Footballing Ambition?
A year ago, Craven Cottage was a fortress of mid-table stability under Marco Silva.
Today, with Silva gone to Benfica and Alvaro Arbeloa's arrival confirmed by the club, Fulham find themselves standing on a trapdoor.
Stability in the Premier League can be the greatest thing for any club, but it can be an unwanted illusion, masquerading as a level of progress, and can also change very quickly. The unwanted scenario of relegation can hit at any time.
Fulham spent 14 years in the Premier League from 2001 before relegation in 2014. Shahid Khan's full takeover of the club came later, in 2013, so by the time he took complete control, Fulham were already in the final year of that long top-flight stay, and the relegation that followed felt like an early reality check for the new ownership.
The quick relegation forced the Khans to restructure the club from the ground up, not only by trying to start afresh after years of depth, but also to find their new identity in terms of both economic and football growth.
The years that followed were a fight just to stay within the pecking order of English football, capped by a yo-yo spell between the Premier League and the Championship, before Marco Silva finally ended it in 2022. Since then, Fulham have established themselves as top-flight regulars, solid but unspectacular in chasing European football, and never seriously threatened by the drop.
That stability is now colliding with change. Silva, a savant for the club across five seasons, has left for Portuguese giants SL Benfica, and with several senior players already past their peak, the question of Fulham's ambition is no longer academic.
KHAN AND THE GAPS between words and REALITY
In his program notes before the last game of the 2025/26 season, Tony Khan, who runs Fulham's football operations day-to-day, pointed to the club's progress as a stable Premier League side, being competitive in cup competitions, but admitted the side should have finished higher.
Fulham missed out on Europe again, something they haven't touched since crashing out of the group stage of the 2011/12 Europa League, and the margin was thin as they finished just one point behind both Brighton and Sunderland, who did qualify, and level with Chelsea. That wasn't a club miles off the pace, but a club that fell one place short of relevance.
The Khans have backed the infrastructure; the Riverside Stand redevelopment has been completed, which should in turn boost commercial and Matchday income, but recruitment has told a different story, too often filling gaps with players already on the decline rather than the calibre needed to push into the top half.
The Risks Facing Fulham this summer
There are signs of a shift to Fulham's recruitment strategy. Jonah Kusi-Asare, Oscar Bobb, the Brazilian winger Kevin, and Emile Smith Rowe (who arrived two years earlier) all point to a club trying to recruit for the future rather than just patch holes.
But it's not yet a step up in numbers, and several risks now sit alongside that ambition.
The Arbeloa gamble.
Moving on from Silva's battle-hardened pragmatism to Alvaro Arbeloa, whose senior management experience amounts to a brief interim spell at Real Madrid, is a serious risk.
His style of play revolves around a more balanced approach that can change tactics mid-game, but tactical overhauls in the Premier League can just as easily end in a relegation fight as a run to Europe.
The defensive question mark.
Joachim Andersen had his shakier moments last season, including a red card before his final league appearance of the campaign, and the centre-back pairing of Calvin Bassey and Jorge Cuenca needs more certainty if Fulham want to build from the back with confidence.
The midfield is also bleeding. Manchester United are actively circling Sander Berge, Fulham's midfield engine and one of their most consistent performers. Losing him without an equally capable replacement would hollow out the middle of the park.
Conundrums at both ends.
Up front, Rodrigo Muniz has shown flashes of real quality, but his inconsistencies mean the Brazilian simply can't be trusted as a 38-game starter to replace Raúl Jiménez, who scored 10 goals in 43 appearances.
He leaves alongside Harry Wilson, who also had 19 goal contributions, another departure Fulham will need to account for.
The goalkeeping department adds to the list, with Bernd Leno out of contract at the end of the coming season, and Harrison Reed, Saša Lukić, and Calvin Bassey all in the same position. This transfer window needs to address these gaps proactively, which is a tough ask for a club that traditionally does its business late.
Fulham are in mid-table purgatory. Relegation isn't a threat anymore, but Europe still feels like a mountain, and last season they were closer to the summit than the table suggests.
Their Premier League future is secure. What isn't decided yet is whether the Khans are content with security or whether, without real investment, this becomes less a push for Europe and more a fight to stay out of the bottom half.

Álvaro Arbeloa eyeing 2nd Real Madrid youngster for Fulham squad
New Fulham head coach Álvaro Arbeloa has identified a 2nd member of the first-team setup at Real Madrid as a potential addition to his squad for next season. Soccer

Arbeloa is for his part of course fresh off taking up the reins in his first permanent managerial position, with Premier League outfit Fulham.
After a half-season on the bench at the aforementioned Real Madrid, the Spaniard has already cast his eye back towards his former employers in search of reinforcements for the 2026/27 campaign.
Recent days have seen Fulham tipped as a potential landing spot for frontman Gonzalo García. And also in the sights of the brass at Craven Cottage, it is understood, is Franco Mastantuono.
As per a report from the BBC, as cited by talkSPORT:
'A loan move for teenage midfielder Franco Mastantuono is being considered by Fulham.'
After a difficult debut campaign at the Bernabéu, it is not considered as out of the question that Argentine international Mastantuono could be farmed out on loan by Real Madrid for the next 12 months.
