Title: NFR - Brighton sign Vuskovic from Spurs in club-record deal
Post by: Lambo on July 14, 2026, 01:36:23 PM
There are some transfer fees which just do not make sense and create an inflated market. £50m for player that has not played in Spurs 1st team. Is it me or is this complete madness

They sold Van Hecke to Spurs for £52m. I smell some finance shenanigans, just like when Everton and Aston Villa overpaid for players they sold to each other.

Vuskovic was one of the highest scoring CB's in europe last year - Wanted by a lot of the big clubs too, and highly tipped to be one of the best CB's in modern football over the next few years. 40-50m is the price to pay. They'll double that with ease if he reaches his potential.

19 years old, and last season went to the bundesliga where he made 30 appearances and scored 6 goals.

Those outputs, even though Hamburg came 13th in the league out of 18 teams, is still pretty good going for someone so young.

Hamburg's position in the table was defined more by their goalscoring, or lack thereof, instead of defence, where on goals conceded alone, they'd have been at least 4 positions higher in the league in 9th and comfortably mid table.

Considering he signed for spurs in 2023, only to join up with them in 2025 and rarely play for them, you can see the appeal for all involved.

Spurs did very well getting him in and selling him on without having had him in the building much in the time he was signed to them.

The fact the FA/PL didn't close such a ludicrously obvious loophole is shambolic. Unsurprising, but shambolic.

Vuskovic is quality. If anything 45m is pretty much bang on his value as he's one of the highest rated young CBs in world football. He has a way higher ceiling than Van Hecke.

Lot of media in Germany were saying he was best centre half in the league even at his age. Some decent centre backs in that division.

His Transfermarkt value before the sale was €60m so the fee looks bang on.

I may be a bit slow and missing something here, what exactly is the shambolic loophole?
