Title: Luc D
Post by: Moussa Dembele the 3rd on August 05, 2026, 05:15:23 PM
Folks will probably disagree with me, but I wouldn't be too fussed if we role into the season with Luc as our only back up RCB. I think he's ready. Also Bassey has played there if we want to partner Bassey and Cuenca in a pinch.

I would like to see him given a chance.

I saw most of his games at the world cup (bit not all) he looks to have improved in the areas in which he had previously looked the greatest at while out on loan, for example his heading has improved massively, and he seems to have shaken the trait of always cutting back inside trying to turn the forward, he has always looked calm on the ball and is a decent passer of the ball, like several others I would like to see him get some game time this season.

I, too, hope Luc is give a chance if he's deemed ready?

I like what I saw of him when making 27 appearances last season in the Belgian Pro League!

He doesn't look ready for the Prem and doesn't seem to be blessed with pace, a criticism that has been levelled at Andersen. A loan would surely be more beneficial for his development. I think we need to sign a CB that fits in with Arbeloa's style.

I think he did really well at the WC and I love the idea of him 'coming through' and into the first team.

Saying that, if Joachim got seriously injured, I'd be very concerned if Luc becomes our only RCB.

I hope he starts getting chances, but I think we need more depth until he's more proven at this level.

He most certainly does not. He was solid but unspectacular in Belgium last season (a league considerably weaker than the PL) and he struggled mightily against the only decent opposition Canada played in the WC (Switzerland/Morocco).

As Anderson is out for the first two games, either Luc must start against Chelsea or we get another defender before the first game (Bassey and Cuena doesn't seem like a starting pair). I suspect he isn't ready to start so we need another defender, and bring Luc back when we sell Anderson in a year or two.

He has significantly bulked up, and has played more copa America, and a World Cup games than competitive league games in Belgium.

Let him be a squad player and let him prove himself.

I think he had a 3 match ban when sent off v Bournemouth so missed the Wolves and Newcastle games, thus out for ONE more game.

with links to Air Boudlal does make one wonder about the clubs stance and reading of Luc. Bringing in a 20year old RCB for north of £20m doesnt scream confidence in Luc DF taking that spot. I assume if such a move materialised we'd send Luc out on loan again.

I'm against throwing him in at the deep end, he's still not played much senior club football. Mistakes as a centre back are punished more harshly than any other position except for goalkeeper.

I place more value in a season of club football than a handful of World Cup games, where players will be much more motivated.

You just need to look at Cabo Verde's keeper, Vozinha; he looked superb in the WC but his career suggests he's not played consistently at that level.

Send him to the Championship for the season.

I've boycotted the last two world cups, but based on the stats and player ratings I saw from Canada's games I got the impression that he was one of their worst players and way out of his depth against the better teams?

Of course, I often don't agree with player ratings, so I have to ask those of you who think he's ready for the Premier League:

Did you actually watch Canada's games in the world cup? Or some of his games in the Belgian league?

Personally I've never seen him play against teams that are anywhere near PL quality. I've only seen him in a couple of friendlies for us and some highlights from his games in Belgium. Based on this I would be a bit worried if he is our backup RCB for the upcoming season.

A loan to the Championship, or even League One, would be ideal IMO. He's clearly a very talented player, but from what I've seen so far I don't think he's ready for the PL. To be honest I'm also a bit worried that he doesn't have the physicality to ever be a success at CB in the Premier League (or the pace needed for a FB).

And in a team of diminutive height we certainly don't need a RCB who barely touches the 1.83 mark (6ft)

He was solid for Canada, did very little wrong (bar a couple of errors v Morocco) and in their earlier games looked very composed. When he faced a little more quality in the Swiss, he lost a bit of that composure and have to say, he looked fairly slow across the ground.
When they played Morocco, he looked a little better IMO. But as a stark contrast, you had Diop at one end, mopping up anything in the air and being a bit of a physical beast and De Foug at the other end who looks like the opposite kind of player. But whatever those stats say, he wasn't in any way their worst player.
I'd say he needs a loan personally, championship would do him good.

I like Luc but i must agree with the main consensus that he's not up to PL level yet. Concerns about lack of height for CB and lack of pace for Full Back, maybe there is a future as a DM, as he seems to read the game well for someone of his age which could negate the pace/height problem. Has he the ball skills that's the big unknown as far as i'm concerned. The next 9 months could prove pivotal for his Fulham career.

Not big enough or good enough in the air.

There is a very good chance we move Andersen on next summer and nearly 100% chance he's gone by the summer after. If we bring in another young defender this summer, Luc could kickstart his progression with regular football in the Championship next season and every one is better off next summer.

I'm on the fence about whether or not the lad is ready for first team play.  He had some good moments in the WC, but he also had some poor, being directly responsible for two goals against in his teams' knockout loss.  I know some were questioning his physicality being a limiting factor, but I thought he appeared to be able to muscle-up with opposing players.  Seems a bit dodgy on the ball, knowing what to do with it, passing, dribbling forward, etc.  Anyway, I do think he might be ready soon, possibly a turn in the Champ on loan this season, could better prepare him for next season?

Funny that. From what I've seen of him he's always looked very comfortable on the ball. I thought it was one of his better attributes, in fact, but admittedly I didn't watch the majority of his WC performances

Hoping we get a new RCB through the door as bassey is not the awnser either.
