Title: The new dawn or our worst nightmare
Post by: MickTheBeard on August 07, 2026, 12:12:54 AM
This process of youth and scouting should have been done when they took over nearly 20 years ago,and I,m not so sure our lunatic of Dof is capable of running the show.Just imagine if the young players don't gel straight away and we get relegated.Yes lukic and dieppe needed changing age and becoming free agents no return on our investment that is where the Dof should have kicked in but where was he no where near Motspur park.I bet he has mark maunders to give him a lift in case he gets lost.I hope for our sake for the long suffering fans from the 50s we have not had success where palace have recently.Just hope the Spaniards maybe 3 no play like their compatriots in the World Cup did notice all three are 5/9 to 5/10 watch corners and set plays, remember tony if we fail don't say that crap after you sign a player com on fulham, this is your last chance to grow a pair.

A new and welcome dawn for the season round the corner.

Mick does make a good point in as much that we are becoming a relatively small team. Add to that, possibly our tallest player Berge can't head the ball. Set pieces will be more difficult to defend this year even if we do bring in a monster centre half. Neither Jimenez previously nor Muniz now compare to Mitro's defensive work.

I do worry our tiny (but skilful) newbies will be bullied out of midfield. We will very shortly discover!
Last night I watched a very skilful Hearts side knock the ball about in midfield before getting thumped 6-1 by our ex managers new side Benfica!!

I could get on with Mick's posts a bit more if they didn't include an unpleasant comment about TK every time.

These new signings are too
Lightweight and will be found out.
As for TK, he is the weakest link.
If he wasn't his father's son he would have been sacked ages ago.

Yeah that's why they were playing for Real Madrid, Gonzalo getting picked over Mbappe

And That's why we have become a steady mid/top half team over the past few seasons then ?

It's so easy to judge and slag off others, maybe just maybe Shahid is proud of what his son has accomplished at FFC

I'm sure he is & should be. But the interesting bit of Mick's post was the lack of size. A team containing say Garcia, Kevin, Bobb, ESR & King would struggle at corners or throw-ins/free kicks around the box. Last season I think Arsenal regularly played with 7/8 6' or over players. They scored plenty from set pieces despite cheating. Chelsea appear to have 18 such players in their bloated squad & we have just sold our biggest & best defender. We really could do with a Roger Brown sized centre half with pace.

1.

Say what you like they are still too lightweight. May get away with it playing in Spain, but the physicality and mentality in the English Leagues is a lot different and far more games, especially for younger players, yes some may embrace it but others will not.

2.
Depends what you mean by steady, empty trophy cabinet yes that's steady.

3,
Mid table mediocrity yeah that's steady.

3.
Not winning the FA Cup or the League Cup after all these years as the oldest club in London yep that's steady.

Even Wimbledon won the FA Cup beating Liverpool.
Even Wigan Athletic won the League Cup beating Manchester City.

Firstly, it's probably unlikely that those Fulham players you picked would all be on the pitch together.Ā
Garcia is physical and a 6 footer.
Arsenal, for their tall back 4 (not including Raya who is a small keeper) also played with this lot all under 6 foot: Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli, Jesus, Lewis-Skelly, Eze, Zubimendi (and probably more). They had a few taller players (Gykores and Havertz) but definitely not a huge team at all.Ā

ThereĀ  were financial reasons to move them on.
However, incoming so far seriously lack the steel needed in the English Premier League.

Without going over all the stuff we have said before.

Two things seem to me to be obvious.
The two new boys were AA's signings, TK would never have got these boys from Real, nobody would.

Second the squad is way less good than last season and we have an untried manager who it appears wants to impose a style on players that would seem to be less suited at first glance.

Losing Diop could well rove to be an error of judgment. I know his faults but he had many unsung qualities, Anderson is not as good as expected.

We need to get in a quality midfield enforcer and proper centre half very quickly or the season may simply slip away from us. I think three managers may yet be a good bet if you like a flutter.

I kind of agree with Mammoth. The Real Madrid/Bayern signings look weak and we've lost Harry Wilson, Raul Jiminez and Diop. The manager's record does not stand out, but I want to give him every chance. Losing Raul & Wilson for nothing is TK's fault.

We need to sort out our defending at corners, has AA changed the marking system and players are getting used to their responsibility at corners, because they seem to be very sloppy defending crosses.

Nepotism hamstrings us.

Surely he needs a bit of applause for what he's pulled off the last few years?
1- consistent Premier League finishes
2- happy, harmonious squad
3- new stand= largest crowds since early 80s (not all on him I know)
4- definite improvement in transfer quality/strategy
5- squad is now becoming more youthful
6- despite the abuse that he received for believing Marco(that he was staying) we appointed a new manager in a quicker time frame than Palace & Man City
7- i know of no other DOF/co owner who would willingly be questioned by a fan/content creator as he did. Open and candid answers, even if he waffled a bit.

Also, why are people going on about the new signings being tiny? They're both 6 foot and Kusu Asare is 6 foot 5. I'd like a more physical presence (height wise) at the back, but those players in forward positions aren't there to win headers at the back (see Wilson for instance). Shea Charles is 6ft2 compared to Lukic. Another weird angle of attack for people that seemingly just need something to moan about.

Given that most of the signings under Silva, who he had more control over, were older Prem experienced players on high wages with little to no sell on value it is a breath of fresh air to sign young talented players. Silva never gave enough opportunities to the young players even when we were safe and he could have integrated more of them into the first team he still didn't. And this constant TK bashing is very boring.

Lightweight and will be found out.
As for TK, he is the weakest link.
If he wasn't his father's son he would have been sacked ages ago.

I kind of agree with Mammoth. The Real Madrid/Bayern signings look weak and we've lost Harry Wilson, Raul Jiminez and Diop. The manager's record does not stand out, but I want to give him every chance. Losing Raul & Wilson for nothing is TK's fault.

Wilson didn't want to sign a contract so not sure how that is TK's fault and maybe Raul decided to move on anyway but even so an ageing Raul had to go at some stage so better now that a new manager is coming in.

Plus Raul was on silly money, I wonder what wolves are paying him

Wilson - inconsistent plus injury proneĀ  - I think he might of hit his peak last season

Raul - good yes but on silly money $$$$ and only going in one direction, could of kept him for another season as a back up I agree but as mentioned $$$$

Diop - decent but extremely awkward on the ball, not a natural and always capable of making a **** up, Theres better out there

Sasa I'd of tried to extend for another year but apparently he didn't want to, wants to play - fair enough

All our new signings are 6 foot plus
Wooly just has it in for our American owners

Quote from: Deadcowboys on August 07, 2026, 06:51:05 AMMick does make a good point in as much that we are becoming a relatively small team. Add to that, possibly our tallest player Berge can't head the ball. Set pieces will be more difficult to defend this year even if we do bring in a monster centre half. Neither Jimenez previously nor Muniz now compare to Mitro's defensive work.
Very well said.
[/quote SizeĀ  wise we've lost Issa who never hardly started Raul and Sasa. Charles is taller than Sasa and most likely a couple of signings will level the rest out. I'm wondering if signing a New Keeper is on the Agenda?

If rumours are to be believed and CB Juma Bah should join, that's 6'5 just there.
