Title: Goodbye & Good Luck KG
Post by: White Noise on July 04, 2011, 11:35:33 AM
Sorry that this one didn't work out. Looked quite good in spells but Palace fans reckon he faded last season after being moved into a more defensive midfield role last season. I still think they have got as Freedman says 'a good investment' at that price (I think we paid £700k) and hope he does well there.

Dikgacoi to sign Palace deal

Midfielder to make Fulham exit for reported £600,000

Dikgacoi: Freedman believes the South African represents a good investment

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has confirmed that Fulham midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi is set to sign a permanent contract at Selhurst Park.

A fee, reported to be £600,000, was agreed over the weekend and the South Africa international, who joined the Championship club on loan last season, is settled on a three-year deal.

Palace are now expected to officially announce the move on Monday afternoon and Freedman believes that Dikgacoi represents a good investment.

The Palace boss told the Advertiser: "KG will sign on a permanent deal. He's my kind of player and I've persuaded the chairman to buy him.

"At only 26 he is only going to get better with more games and I see it as a good investment for the football club.

"He wants to come here and play and I am only interested in players who are keen to play for Crystal Palace and will make us a better side."

Dikgacoi joined Fulham in August 2009, but made just seven league starts for the Premier League side before moving to Palace in February.

Perhaps Roy's second worst signing - after Eddie Johnson.

Roy didn't sign Eddie Johnson, was bought before he came in.

KD is a fine player. No way can he be considered a poor signing. He was too low in the pecking order and was unable to take the odd chance he was given. I would have thought he would the sort of player we needed with the Europa.

Good luck to him.

Our squad is worse now than at anytime under Hughes -   :hook:

Good luck to him.

Never saw enough of him to make my mind up one way or the other.

I would assume that the "powers that be" are in a better position to judge him more than we are, so you would like to think this is the right move.

Sure but that's because the players that have left have not yet been replaced.

No way are we going into next season without some new players. Of what quality who knows of course.

I would like to present as evidence to the contrary - Jari Litmanen, Julian Gray and Toni Kallio

Bit unfair considering we paid nothing for him, and with this transfer fee we've recouped most of the money spent on his wages.

Dikagcoi looked as though he had heaps of potential, it must have been something to do with his commitment on the training field. I know it was only a one off but when I went to an open training session a few years ago, I saw why Erik Nevland didn't get game time. He was absolutely appalling and looked disinterested. Wouldn't surprise me if this was the same for little Diks.

Had a good pass and engine on him.

I never quite forgave him for losing his rag at Upton Park and costing us 3 points. Of course, I've never forgiven Konchesky for doing the same thing at home v. Derby County and forcing us to park the bus at home against the worst team in the history of the Prem in order to get one point.

I wish him well. He always seemed to have the right attitude, but maybe not quite the skill for the top flight.

I seem to recall that he basically engineered the move to Fulham himself (didn't he announce it about 12 times, before it actually happend?). He was told to lose some serious weight after one trial with us and (fair play to him) he went away for 12 months and did just that. I think he will be a good player for Palace.

I'm disappointed about this. I think he could be good enough for the premiership. It was just difficult for him to get a run of games to prove himself. He looked pretty good in the world cup. Anyway, i can understand why he wanted to leave and Jol probably knows very little about him and may have an idea of another central midfielder he wants to get. Hope he does well at Palace

sure he'll be a hit in the Championship, seemed to be a real unit, just lacking that extra something needed to make it in the prem.

Official: Crystal Palace sign Fulham's Kagisho Dikgacoi
The South African international has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Championship outfit, with a reported fee in the region of £600,000 sealing the transfer

Crystal Palace have officially signed Kagisho Dikgacoi on a three-year deal from Fulham.

The out-of-favour South African played just one game for the Cottagers in 2010 and was subsequently loaned out to Palace, where he made 13 apperances.

His displays at Selhurt Park persuaded boss Dougie Freedman to instruct the club's chairman to snap him up on a permanent deal, with a £600,000 fee reported to have been agreed, and the transfer has been announced on Palace's official website.

Earlier on Monday, Freedman told reporters: "At only 26 he is only going to get better with more games and I see it as a good investment for the football club."

that's not right though. at the time it was said that he genuinely was the last person you'd expect that from, super nice lad, etc.

I think he'll come again. Really liked him as a player and might try to get to Palace during an international break to watch him.

...sadly K.D. Languished in the reserves, the few occasions he made an appearance I thought he looked good; there was no doubt he needed lots of sharp edges knocked off of him but I really thought that with the guidance of the current WBA manager when he was at Fulham he would have learned the right way of doing things alongside the experienced players at the club.

Sadly we will never know what he may have achieved with the right tutelage, I hope he is more in tune with crippled Alice and given stability with management and regular starts, good luck to the lad...

given the way Parker's slyly gone aroudn the pitch kicking our players for the last few seasons I have no qualms with this at all!

Am I out of the loop or something? How can Palace afford £600k?

I thought they were bust/bankrupt/in Admin.

no news from the club on KG's departure

as of 09:55 5/7/11 he's still on the "first team squad" page

why are the club so slow at updating us on our players?
