Zaha snubs interest from Newcastle to pen five-year Crystal Palace deal

Crystal Palace have tied their sought-after young winger Wilfried Zaha to a new five-and-a-half year contract.

The 19-year-old has scored five goals in 26 games this season and shone in Palace's run to the last four of the Carling Cup, including a man-of-the-match display at Manchester United in the quarter-final.

Zaha's performances have alerted a host of top-flight clubs with Newcastle, Liverpool, Fulham and QPR all linked with January bids, as well as Palace's Championship rivals West Ham.

In demand: But Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha has agreed a new deal

But the Eagles are hoping to fend off any interest and hang on to another of their Academy graduates having lost the likes of John Bostock and Victor Moses over the past couple of seasons.

'I'm delighted Wilfried has extended his contract with the club,' manager Dougie Freedman told the club's official website.

'A lot of hard work has seen him develop extremely well over the last year and I look forward to seeing him progress even further in a Crystal Palace shirt.'

Fulham reveal record profits
Al Fayed keen for club to keep moving in the right direction

Mohamed Al Fayed: Wants Fulham to keep moving in the right direction after announcing record profits

Fulham chairman Mohamed Al Fayed aims to ensure the club continue moving in the right direction after the announcement of record profits of £4.8million for the past financial year.

The Premier League club have also reported a record revenue of £77.1million for the 2010/11 season, according to figures released for the year ending June 30, 2011.

Fulham posted a profit of £5.4million, before interest and taxation, and enjoyed a 4.9% increase in attendance, which saw Craven Cottage secure a 98% occupancy figure for the season.

"The club has made great strides in recent years, and this excellent set of financial results is just reward for our progress," Al Fayed said in a statement.

Determined

"As always, I am determined to ensure the club moves in the right direction whilst remaining true to our history, heritage and past traditions."

The Cottagers finished the 2010/11 season eighth in the top flight and currently lie 11th in the table.

Off the field, the club's progress has been highlighted by their recently-announced plans to increase Craven Cottage's capacity to 30,000.

The stadium has been Fulham's home since 1896 and would be subject to wider facility improvements, as well as the Riverside Stand development.

On the plans, Al Fayed added: "The announcement of our plans to redevelop the Riverside Stand, whilst opening up the Riverwalk for the benefit of the community, is further proof that my ambition for this football club remains resolute."

Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale relieved after Bolton win

Fulham did not make the same mistake they did against Odense

Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale was relieved after his side held their two-goal lead against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The Whites had let a two-goal lead slip against Odense in the Europa League to crash out of the competition.

"At 2-0, I think a few possibly thought back to the Odense game, but we kept things tight and showed a lot of character," Stockdale said.

"From front to back there were some great performances. When they play like that it makes my job that bit more easier.

"The boys up front will be happy with their goals, but us at the back will be equally pleased with the clean sheet too – all round we were very strong."

Marcello Trotta expects Wycombe Wanderers extension

Trotta is an Italy Under-19 international

Fulham striker Marcello Trotta has said he hopes he can extend his loan stay at Wycombe, after scoring three goals in as many games for the Chairboys.

The 19-year-old Italian is set to return to Craven Cottage following Saturday's draw at Carlisle.

But the Naples-born forward told BBC Three Counties Radio: "I think we are looking at something for Christmas.

"I'm happy at the club and it's good for me to stay here. When you enjoy it you score goals and are happy."

He added: "When I score I'm happy. That's the main thing.

"I hope I can do that more and help this team get more wins to help them go up the table."

And although Trotta is pleased to assist Wanderers' fight against League One relegation he has his long-term sights set on a career with Fulham, where he has netted nine times in seven reserve games this season.

"The Premier League is where I want to play one day for Fulham and I am working hard for it," he said.

Maynard on Radar?

With there being a distinct possibility that we could lose both Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson in the forthcoming transfer window, the subject of possible replacements comes to mind.

Well one name being touted by the tabloid press is that of the Bristol City striker, Nicky Maynard.

It`s being reported that the twenty-five year old, who has scored 7 goals this season could be the subject of a £4 million bid.

This could be one to keep an eye on!

Trotta Loan Extension?

The word on the street is that one of our youngsters could have his loan spell extended.

Marcello Trotta has made such an impact at Wycombe Wanderers, scoring three goals in his last three games, that it`s rumoured that Wycombe want to hang onto him for a little longer.

We suspect that Martin Jol might be willing to agree to that.

ARSENAL AND CHELSEA BOXING DAY FEAR

Arsenal and Chelsea fear their Boxing Day Premier League clashes against Wolves and Fulham could be under threat due to a planned tube strike.

Arsenal have sold all 60,000 tickets available for the game at the Emirates Stadium, but access to the ground for both supporters and the club's 1,000 matchday employees could be restricted if the planned strikes go ahead.

Drivers have planned a 24-hour walkout on Boxing Day and on three other days over the next two months.

A statement on Arsenal's website read: "We would like to make all supporters aware of the situation surrounding our proposed home match against Wolves on Monday 26th December.

"The club is fully aware of the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Monday 26th December.

"We are closely monitoring the situation, together with all the relevant agencies, including the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London, London Underground, the FA Premier League, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Islington Council.

"The paramount concern to Arsenal Football Club is the duty of care we have towards the Arsenal supporters, Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters, matchday employees and indeed everyone who is planning to attend this match. "Any decisions or developments regarding this match will be immediately communicated on Arsenal.com."

The 2,200 members of trade union Aslef agreed to strike on Boxing Day, January 16, February 3 and 13 in a ballot last week.

That decision is being challenged by London mayor Boris Johnson in the high court and there is hope that an agreement can be reached to prevent the strike.

It is understood Arsenal could put the fixture back by 24 hours if the planned strike goes ahead.

Chelsea are also aware of the possibility of travel disruption for their Boxing Day derby with Fulham in west London.

A statement read: "Chelsea football club would like to make clear that we are consulting with London Transport, the Metropolitan Police and all relevant local authorities regarding our Barclays Premier League fixture with Fulham at Stamford Bridge on December 26.

"At present, a proposed industrial strike on London Underground, combined with the lack of national rail services in operation could make reaching the stadium difficult both for Chelsea and Fulham supporters, as well as matchday staff and employees, all of whose safety and wellbeing remains our primary concern.

Chelsea-Fulham game in doubt

The Boxing Day derby between Chelsea and Fulham could be postponed because of a proposed strike on the London Underground.

Arsenal are considering moving their match against Wolves to the following day, and Chelsea have announced that they too are assessing the situation.

As well as a possible tube strike, limited Christmas-period rail services will mean fans could struggle to get to Stamford Bridge for the game, which is scheduled to kick off at 1.30pm.

Chelsea are set to consult London Transport and the Metropolitan Police before deciding whether to go ahead with the match.

JOL'S COLLAPSE FIRES UP ZAMORA TRANSFER RUMOUR

Aston Villa are looking to strengthen their forward line with a move for Fulham's Bobby Zamora, according to the Mirror.

Villa boss Alex McLeish is aware that he can't just rely on the goalscoring of current striker Darren Bent and has identified Zamora, 30, as a January target.

Fulham left Zamora out of the squad that fell to defeat at Swansea City over the weekend as speculation grows that manager Martin Jol isn't the player's biggest fan.

Zamora has scored five times in 22 outings for Fulham this season.

EXCLUSIVE: Jol makes Zamora train with the reserves in new 'snub'

Martin Jol relationship with Bobby Zamora was put under further strain after the Fulham striker was told to train with the reserves on Monday.

Zamora, who is prepared to quit Craven Cottage in January, was stunned by the request ahead of their Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The England striker, who was left out of Saturday's 2-0 win over bottom club Bolton through injury, believes he is in contention to face United on Wednesday.

Hard line: Martin Jol is keen to make his mark on the Fulham squad

Out of the picture: Bobby Zamora was made to train with the reserves in a 'recovery' session on Monday

He accepted his instructions at the training ground on Monday without complaint, but fears he is being deliberately frozen out of the first-team picture and will leave in January if the club accept an offer.

Zamora has established himself in the England set-up and does not want to affect his chances of going to the Euros next summer.

He has been used sparingly by Jol since the Dutchman arrived at Craven Cottage and the pair's relationship is described by Fulham insiders as 'cordial'.

He was substituted during Fulham's Europa League exit against Odense at Craven Cottage last week through injury and failed a fitness test on Saturday.

Fulham insisted on Monday night that the reserve-team session Zamora was involved in was taken by first-team coaches.

Steve Sidwell, who also missed Saturday's win  over Bolton, was included in the same 'recovery' session, although other first-team players were not involved.

Jol must also handle the delicate situation surrounding Andrew Johnson's contract.

Contract stall: Fulham could sell Andrew Johnson in January to stop him leaving on a free at the end of the season

They risk losing the striker on a free at the end of the season or could cash in on the remaining six months of his contract by selling him in the new year.

Dikgacoi nets in Palace win

Bafana Bafana midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi scored late to give Crystal Palace a 1-0 victory over Birmingham City to aid their promotion push from the English Championship.

Dikgacoi scored a rare headed goal in the 84th minute to seal the points for The Eagles, who now move up to eighth in the table, two points off the promotion play-off places.

It looked as though the game might end goalless before Darren Ambrose picked up the ball on the right and his inch-perfect cross was met powerfully by Dikgacoi with the ball crashing into the net.

It was Dikgacoi's first goal for Palace since his permanent move from Fulham at the start of this season, though he did net while on loan at Selhurst Park in the second half of the last campaign.

He was making his 14th appearance for the side in 2011/12, the only one of the South Africans in the Championship who is seeing regular action for his club side.

He was also part of the Palace side that stunned Manchester United in the Carling Cup last month, a massive moment for the Bafana star who admits the Red Devils were his childhood idols.

Etheridge satisfied with Fulham debut

LONDON -- Philippine Azkals first choice goal keeper Neil Etheridge is happy with his performance in his senior debut for Fulham FC last week, in the club's Europa League clash against Danish outfit Odense BK.

Around 15,700 fans flocked to Craven Cottage to watch the game, while Filipinos across the globe tuned in to watch Etheridge make his first start for the club.

"For a debut, I was quite happy. Considering it's my first full game in a Fulham jersey, I thought I played well," Etheridge said.

Etheridge was given the starting goal keeper spot after an injury to first choice goal keeper Mark Schwarzer.

Fulham needed a win to ensure progression in the tournament, and looked as if they were on track to achieving that as they headed in at halftime with a 2-nil lead courtesy of Clint Dempsey (27th minute) and Kerim Frei (31st minute).

But Odense clawed back in the second half to salvage a 2-2 draw and break Fulham's hearts. The equalizing goal came at the last action of the game, arriving in the 3rd minute of injury time.

"I was happy with my personal performance," Etheridge said. "But it's a team sport and we were unable to produce a result."

The loss meant that Fulham is now eliminated from the Europa League.

Etheridge made some commanding catches during the game and tipped a low shot behind from a corner.

Learning experience

Despite those positives, Etheridge admitted he is responsible for Odense's first goal, which came via a free kick from Hans Henrik Adreasen on the edge of the Fulham penalty box (64th minute).

"Their first goal was down to me, I hold my hand up. It was a mistake that went down to not having enough experience, but it won't happen again," Etheridge promised. "I learn from mistakes."

Etheridge said Odense played the free kick "quite clever and moved the ball just before they hit it."

Before the free-kick was taken, Odense managed to move the ball a yard from its original spot without the referee noticing. The result was Fulham's defensive wall was no longer properly aligned, and one side of the goal was more exposed than before.

Future appearances

With Schwarzer out of action for up to 6 weeks, Fulham manager Martin Jol has recalled goal keeper David Stockdale, who was on loan at Ipswich Town FC.

Stockdale will now fill the void in the first team, while Etheridge provides cover during Schwarzer's absence.

It is unclear when Etheridge will feature for Fulham again, but until then, the 21-year-old Filipino-Brit promises to remain patient and focused.

"To have an England international you're competing against (Stockdale) and an excellent goal keeper like Mark Schwarzer, it's never easy, but I'll just have to keep my head down and keep working," he said.

"Hopefully, the manager will see this and when I get the chance, I'll take it with both hands and try to impress."

Fulham look to pile more Craven Cottage misery on Manchester United

Whites goalkeeper David Stockdale is targeting a good result against the champions

Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale is determined to build on the win at home to Bolton Wanderers with a good performance at home to Manchester United tomorrow.

The Red Devils have drawn once of the last three games at Craven Cottage, losing the other two.

Stockdale is hopeful that this run can continue on Wednesday.

"We can build on this performance now," he said. "We knew the league was tight and three points makes the table look a lot better.

"This was a massive win for us and now we just want to kick on. We've done well against United in the past, so hopefully that will be the case again."

Opta Stats: Fulham v Manchester United

Manchester United have been superb on their travels and need three more points if they are to achieve Sir Alex Ferguson's aim of ending 2011 on top...

Danny Murphy has scored more goals (5) against Manchester United than versus any other opponent apart from Newcastle (also five).

Fulham are unbeaten in their last three home matches against Manchester United (W2 D1).

Brede Hangeland scored at both ends in the final 10 minutes of the game when the teams met at Craven Cottage last season in a 2-2 draw.

The Whites have only won three of the 20 Premier League meetings with Manchester United (W3, D4 L13).

Fulham haven't won back-to-back Premier League games since April.

Man United are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League away games (W6 D3), but two of their last three away defeats in the Premier League have been in London.

Man United have won just seven of their last 22 Premier League away games in London (W7 D7 L8), but did win last weekend v QPR.

Manchester United have lost just one of their last 19 Premier League matches (W14 D4 L1) and won six of the last seven (W6 D1).

79% of the goals Man United have conceded have come in the second half, the highest proportion in the top flight.

Manchester United have the best away record in the Premier League this season, with 20 points from eight games.

Fulham - Manchester United Preview: Champions look to maintain title push with a seventh away win
Sir Alex Ferguson's side will be out to record another victory on their Premier League travels this term as they aim to maintain the pressure on City at the top of the table

PROBABLE LINEUPS
FULHAM
Stockdale
Baird, Senderos, Hangeland, JA Riise
Ruiz, Murphy, Etuhu, Dempsey
Johnson, Dembele

MANCHESTER UNITED
De Gea
Smalling, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra
Valencia, Jones, Carrick, Nani
Rooney, Hernandez

Fulham boss Martin Jol could be set to name an unchanged lineup following his team's impressive 2-0 home win against Bolton at the weekend. Bobby Zamora could well have to settle for a place on the bench once more, even if he recovers from a knee knock.

David Stockdale will again deputise for regular first-choice goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who is still five weeks away from a return, while long-term injury victim Zdenek Grygera misses out.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will again have to do without the services of long-term absentees Anderson, Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher as well Tom Cleverley, Michael Owen and Fabio. Right-back Rafael could well feature after an injury lay-off.

The visitors are likely to keep the number of changes to a minimum but could well opt to recall Javier Hernandez in place of Danny Welbeck. Phil Jones is again likely to partner Michael Carrick in the heart of midfield.

DID YOU KNOW?
Fulham have only won four of their last 16 Premier League matches so far this season, drawing six and losing the other six.
They have managed to find the back of the net in each of their last seven Premier League matches.
The Cottagers last home win against Sir Alex's side was back in the 2009/10 season, when they beat them 3-0.
Smalling only made 19 appearances for Fulham before he completed his £10 million to Manchester United in 2010.
Manchester United have won their last four Premier League away matches, all without conceding a goal.
United have won seven of their last 22 Premier League games in London.
The Red Devils have only conceded three goals so far this season in their eight away league matches.
United's top league goalscorer is Rooney, who took his tally to 11 Premier League goals with his goal against QPR at the weekend.

Fulham v United preview

The Reds hope to continue some impressive away form at Craven Cottage.

Date, time and coverage
Wednesday 21 December, 20:00 GMT kick-off. Follow it live on ManUtd.com with text and radio commentary.

Form guide
United threw down the title gauntlet to rivals Manchester City on Sunday with a 2-0 win over QPR, a result which temporarily lifted the Reds above Roberto Mancini's men in the Barclays Premier League. Goals from Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick sealed the win at Loftus Road, the Reds' sixth on the road this season, to provide a perfect start to the busy festive calendar. Fulham have endured some indifferent form under Martin Jol this season, picking up just 18 points from 16 top-flight games. The Cottagers did record a positive result on Saturday, though, beating lowly Bolton 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

Ins and outs
The injury crisis that has engulfed the Carrington treatment room is finally easing following an unparalleled run of knocks. Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez were surprise inclusions at QPR, while Sir Alex Ferguson has also confirmed Rafael's return to training and it won't be too long before his twin Fabio, Tom Cleverley and Anderson are back in contention. Fulham's list of absentees has also been minimised by the return of club captain Danny Murphy, while talismanic striker Bobby Zamora is also close to a comeback - despite failing a late fitness test prior at the weekend. Mark Schwarzer, Steve Sidwell and Zdenek Grygera are injured.

Fulham v Man Utd – Picks of the Week
Man Utd need three points against Fulham and are odds-on favourites to win at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Craven Cottage has not been a happy hunting ground for Manchester United in recent seasons, with Fulham having avoided defeat in all of their last three home matches against Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Indeed, the last two games in the sequence featured commanding wins to nil for the Lilywhites: first, the Cottagers triumphed 2-0 in March 2009 when Paul Scholes was sent off in the 18th minute; then, a makeshift United centre-back pairing of Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick was unable to stop Danny Murphy, Bobby Zamora and Damien Duff scoring in a 3-0 Fulham win.

There are further signs that United will not have it all their own way when they visit the Cottage on Wednesday, making this game one of bwin's Picks of the Week.

A routine 2-0 win over Bolton at the weekend showed Fulham are in good form on their own patch, particularly as it came on the back of an impressive 1-0 win over in-form Liverpool.

This suggests that there could be value in a Fulham win at 4/1 or a draw at 27/10 in bwin's 3Way football betting market.

After all, United are hardly at the peak of their powers, with a selection crisis limiting Ferguson's options in defence, midfield and attack.

A routine 2-0 win over Bolton at the weekend showed Fulham are in good form on their own patch, particularly as it came on the back of an impressive 1-0 win over in-form Liverpool.

However, there appears to be a renewed ruthlessness about the defending champions following their Champions League disaster in Basle on 7th December.

They might be short of fit players, but the Red Devils bounced back from their group stage exit to beat Wolves 4-1 at Old Trafford on 10th December before easing to a 2-0 win against QPR on Sunday.

United have been vastly superior to their opponents in each of these matches and, with this in mind, look good bets to make it three wins out of three at odds of 67/100 when they face Fulham.

And with Ferguson challenging his team to be top of the table at the turn of the year, United are under pressure to pick up all three points – dodgy record at Craven Cottage or not.

Fulham v Man Utd preview
Team news ahead of Wednesday night's Premier League clash between Fulham and Manchester United at Craven Cottage (kick-off 8pm).

Sir Alex Ferguson must decide whether to make changes for Manchester United's second visit to London in four days.

After disposing of QPR on Sunday, United now tackle Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The unexpected return of Javier Hernandez from an ankle strain at the weekend offers Ferguson more attacking options, whilst Ashley Young may also be called upon for one of the wide berths.

Man United (from): De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos, Evans, Smalling, Ferdinand, Evra, Jones, Fryers, Cole, Carrick, Young, Valencia, Park, Gibson, Nani, Giggs, Macheda, Rooney, Welbeck, Berbatov, Hernandez, Diouf.

Sunderland, Everton and Villa to lead January chases for strike duo
Bobby Zamora and Kenwyne Jones could both be sold in the upcoming transfer window

Improving their strike options will be essential for Sunderland, Everton and Aston Villa in the January transfer window and they are likely to head the race to sign both Bobby Zamora and Kenwyne Jones.

New Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is likely to have demanded a sizeable transfer kitty to spend in the January transfer window and a proven striker will surely be top of his shopping list.

With Asamoah Gyan expected to decline a return to the Stadium of Light from his loan deal in the UAE, Sunderland are desperately short of firepower to rival Nicklas Bendtner and are having to employ tricky winger Stephane Sessegnon in an advanced role to fill the void.

Typically, Everton are struggling to keep Louis Saha fit and it is teenage Greek striker Apostolos Vellios that currently tops their Premier League scoring exploits with just three goals through the opening 15 games.

Meanwhile, there is the belief around Aston Villa that Darren Bent could leave in January and if this happens some of the money will almost certainly need to be used to purchase some kind of replacement.

Zamora's future at Fulham seems especially bleak given that he has struggling to build a relationship with manager Martin Jol since his appointment in the summer.

Jol dropped the striker from the matchday squad for the weekend win over Bolton and he has since also been sent to train with the reserves.

With Zamora still angling for a spot in the England squad for Euro 2012, he will be desperate to play regularly in order to bolster his chances.

Jones may not be so keen to move, but has struggled for starting opportunities at Stoke since the arrival of Peter Crouch and a transfer may be best for his career.

Without a new striker, the three clubs could all find themselves caught up in a relegation dogfight, with Sunderland currently 9/2, Aston Villa 10/1 and Everton 25/1 in the Premier League odds to face the drop.

Opta Stats: Man United at risk of an upset away to Fulham

The magnificent midweek Opta stats hint that Manchester United could be tripped up at Craven Cottage, while Manchester City should deliver...

"Fulham are unbeaten in their last three home matches against Manchester United."

Fulham v Manchester United (Wednesday, 20:00)
Fulham are unbeaten in their last three home matches against Manchester United
Manchester United have been hard to fault on their travels but, Liverpool aside, this is arguably their toughest test yet. Opta note that the champions have won just seven of their last 22 Premier League ties in London, and though Fulham haven't been as formidable at home under Martin Jol, they are getting there, winning their last two. The Cottagers have faced four of the top six and lost only once.

Former United star who played for Fulham

Of course on Wednesday, Manchester United travel down to Craven Cottage to play Fulham. With that in mind it's worth looking at these 6 individuals who have spent time at United and Fulham in their careers.

Peter Beardsley
It's easy to forget that arguably one of the best wingers in English football Beardsley played just the once for United in 1982 after signing from Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps. Surprisingly Ron Atkinson failed to see his talent and he was released.

Peter signed his boyhood club Newcastle United in 1983 before becoming a household name on Merseyside and for England. After a second spell with Newcastle he ended his playing days with short spells at Bolton, Manchester City and Fulham.

George Best
There are few footballers who are talked about as one of the greatest players of all-time; the magical Northern Irishman Best is one of a select few whose name crops up over and over again. He was a magical player with quick feet and breathtaking skills.

One part of the holy trinity with Sir Bobby Charlton and Denis Law, George enjoyed many fine moments at Old Trafford before leaving at the age of 27. He enjoyed a season and a half at Fulham in the 70's playing second-division football where his vision and touch still showed.

Jonathan Greening
After joining United as a talented youngster from York, Jonathan became a steady player in our reserves and had only limited chances to break into our first team. He did though pick up a winner's medal in United's Champions League triumph of 1999 as an unused substitute.

In 2001, he left United joining Middlesbrough as one of Steve McLaren's first signings and had three successful years up at the Riverside before joining West Brom in 2004. He later become club-captain for the Baggies before joining Fulham in 2010.

Paul Parker
One of the United's most iconic full-backs, Parker began his career at Fulham as a midfielder. He made his name at QPR as a right-back and played a major role in England's charge to the semi-finals in the 1990 World Cup under the late Sir Bobby Robson.

In 1991 Paul signed for United after impressing Sir Alex Ferguson. Unfortunately he struggled with injuries during his five year spell at Old Trafford but still won 4 major honours. He would later return to Fulham playing three times before retiring in 1997.

Louis Saha
Very few people would argue the fact that when fit there are few better strikers in the Premier League than Saha. He has pace, flair, a powerful shot and a knack of scoring a variety of goals regularly. Sadly he has a knack of picking up injuries which have held back his career.

After a stint at Newcastle, Louis adapted to the English game well at Fulham before making a big-money move to United in 2004. Sadly despite an impressive scoring record, he left after struggling with injuries and has spent the last three seasons at Everton.

Edwin Van der Sar
United fans have said that Dutch keeper Van der Sar has been the club's best ever goalkeeper since Peter Schmeichel. Whilst that's the case, the great keeper deserves to be spoken about in his own right as his form in his final years for the club was outstanding to say the least.

There were doubts raised when he joined United from Fulham at the age of 34 whether he was still a great keeper but in six seasons he improved year on year at the club with his crowning moment being his penalty save in Moscow from Nicolas Anelka which won United the European Cup.

Young Fulham goalkeeper relishing challenge for first

Neil Etheridge is determined to push Mark Schwarzer and David Stockdale all the way for a spot in Martin Jol's side

Fulham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge is determined to build from his Europa League experience and try and grab the number one jersey as his own.

The 21-year-old made a surprise debut against Odense as the Whites crashed out of the Europa League, drawing 2-2 when they had been two goals to the good at half-time.

"To have an England international you're competing against (Stockdale) and an excellent goal keeper like Mark Schwarzer, it's never easy, but I'll just have to keep my head down and keep working," Etheridge said.

"Hopefully, the manager will see this and when I get the chance, I'll take it with both hands and try to impress.

The goalkeeper was pleased with his debut but accepted he was to blame for the Danish side's first goal.

"I was happy with my personal performance. But it's a team sport and we were unable to produce a result," he added.

"Their first goal was down to me, I hold my hand up. It was a mistake that went down to not having enough experience, but it won't happen again.

"I learn from mistakes. (They were) quite clever and moved the ball just before they hit it."

New doubts over striker's future

Bobby Zamora's future at Fulham is again the subject of much debate after the striker was ordered to train with the reserves.

The England international missed Saturday's 2-0 win over bottom club Bolton due to a knee problem, and while he accepted Jol's instructions without complaint, the decision may have privately pushed him closer to the exit door.

The Dutchman claims Zamora was asked to train with the reserves for 'recovery' purposes and not because he is being frozen out of the first team picture.

However, with reigning champions Manchester United coming up on Wednesday, the move would seem to indicate that the striker won't be involved in the game even though he is over the injury.

Zamora, who failed a fitness test before Saturday's clash with the Trotters, was joined in the reserve workout by Steve Sidwell but speculation about the popular targetman just won't go away.

It's claimed relations between Zamora and the Cottagers manager are 'cordial' at best and many observers would be surprised if he doesn't move on in January particularly with the Euros coming up in the summer.

Fulham post record profits

Fulham Football Club have today announced a record profit for the season 2010/2011.

The Club reported a profit, before interest and taxation, of £5.4m and a record net profit of £4.8m for the year ended 30 June 2011.

the results have been buoyed by an increase in attendance of 4.9% which contributed to its overall occupancy figure of 98% for the season. Fulham also posted record revenue figures of £77.1m, continuing the year on year growth trend, which hit 17.7%. *

A strong second half performance on-field led to an excellent 8th position finish, which also saw European qualification, through the FAPL Fair Play league.

*Note: Excluding the previous year's UEFA Europa League campaign.

The Club's Chairman, Mohamed Al Fayed said:

'The Club has made great strides in recent years, and this excellent set of financial results is just reward for our progress. As always, I am determined to ensure the Club moves in the right direction whilst remaining true to our history, heritage and past traditions.

'The announcement of our plans to redevelop the Riverside Stand, whilst opening up the Riverwalk for the benefit of the community, is further proof that my ambition for this football club remains resolute.'

Fulham striker Bobby Zamora forced to train with reserves - report
Martin Jol allegedly demoted the England international to the second string on Monday, with forward apparently left reeling by the decision and concerned for his future

Fulham manager Martin Jol forced Bobby Zamora to train with the reserves on Monday, according to The Daily Mail.

Zamora, who is thought to be willing to leave Craven Cottage in January with his relationship with the Dutch boss said to be near breaking point, was reportedly left reeling by the manager's decision, just days before their next big game.

The ex-West Ham man did not feature in the 2-0 win over Bolton on Saturday but is hoping to play against Manchester United on Wednesday evening.

The Mail claim Zamora undertook Jol's instructions at Monday's training session without complaint, but he fears he is being frozen out of the first team by the Dutch manager.

The striker and manager have not seen eye to eye since Jol took over and Zamora does not want to reduce his chances of going to Euro 2012 with England in the summer by staying at a club that cannot guarantee him regular football.

Lawro's prediction
(http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/57382000/jpg/_57382826_57382825.jpg)
Fulham v Man United
I was impressed with Fulham against Bolton at the weekend. Clint Dempsey, Moussa Dembele and Bryan Ruiz were a real threat but they come up against a Manchester United team which is a different animal.

United are now in a mindset where they want blood. Going into this phase of fixtures, it's just about winning. It doesn't matter how they play, Sir Alex Ferguson will just want the three points from each of their games in the next two weeks.

Despite having loads of injuries at the moment, they just get on with it as they know it's part and parcel of the Premier League. Their record is outstanding but it's been overlooked because City's is even better. The Red Devils are not getting the praise they deserve.

Prediction: 0-2
