Title: Compare the teams
Post by: Rhys Lightning 63 on October 17, 2012, 09:53:31 PM
The team that started against Blackburn on that famous night in 2001

Taylor
Finnan, Brevett, Melville, Symons,
Goldbaek, Clark, Davis, John Collins,
Hayles, Saha

VERSUS

The team that started the Europa League Final

Schwarzer
Baird, Hangeland, Hughes, Konchesky
Davies, Murphy, Etuhu, Duff
Gera
Zamora

Who would win in a one off match?

Top team would edge it 2-1.

I'd make the top team 3-1 winners...2 from Saha and the other off of Barry Hayles's backside that might just have drifted offside but he got away with it...MOM was John Collins who completely ran the show from start to finish.

A big shame was the sending off of Konch for decking Dickson because he kept passing backwards. The game was slightly spoilt by Zamora who feined injury just so he could go shopping early at Westfield in Shepherd's Bush.

Goldbaek apologised to the Fulham fan he hit with the ball while taking a freekick...the Fulham fan was trying to dismantle the statue of Michael Jackson at the time...

At the end of the game you could see Melvinio and Bairdinio comparing nicknames.

Bottom team for me.  The top team was essentially a championship side albeit a very good one.  The Europa was an established premier side.  1-3.

The exact Europa team? If so then it would be a win for the top team. Both Zamora and Duff were write offs with their Achilles problems.

Actually, in this case I'd want both teams compared at their prime

Best team from the two is
Taylor
Finana Hangerland Hughes Brevett
Davies Clark, Murphy John Collins
Gera
Saha

Now that is a team

Neutral venue. So both teams lose in that case

Roys Europa final team was hard to beat especially at the cottage I would say that team would have the edge

The Gera-Zamora combo was unplayable in Europe that season, and would have had a field day against the Championship back for so I'd go with a quite comfortable victory for the EL team.

A Saha in top form could change that though.

Swap Goma for Melville  and  Boa  for Goldbaek
and it would be a close game
