The Club can confirm that Matthew Briggs has joined Bristol City on a short-term loan deal.
The left-back, who has made three appearances for Fulham this season, will remain at Ashton Gate for one month and could make his debut at home to Hull City on Saturday afternoon.
The Robins are currently sitting in 21st place in the npower Championship table and are without a win in six league games.
Now who's going to start a thread about Jol getting rid of the youngsters and doing nothing with the average age of the squad ;-)

Looking at City's record, it seems as if Matty will get plenty of opportunity to improve his defensive skills.
Good move for Briggsy. Needs work on his defensive game, and of course some time on the pitch. I like the strategy of these short term loans with options to extend. Plus of course you can instantly recall players loaned to the Championship.
Richardson and Duff can play LB if Riise gets shot down by an injury for good move for all parties. I was surprised how excited Jol was in the pre game video about Briggs.

Yes, I noticed Jol's comments too. I wonder if he has really come on and matured in training with his attitude etc. I seem to remember one of the fulham staff mentioned several of the younger players have been staying behind to do extra training.

Matthew Briggs has always struck me as a fine example of a young professional footballer. Pleasant, coperative, articulate and level headed.
He must be aware that he hasn't really gone very far towards fulfilling the high expectations thrust upon him at the age of 16. He has beeen criticised here and elsewhere (sometimes justifiably!) for his defensive failings. Hopefully this is something he can work on under competitive pressure at Bristol. It is getting close to 'make-or-break' time for Matt. At one point I thought he was the reason we were prepared to get rid of Chris Smalling (well, there were, admittedly, ten million or so other reasons), but now I am not so sure.
I've seen him play twice this season and, although on neither occasion was he particularly tested defensively, he impressed both with his attacking runs and the mature way he saught and took control of situations. Here's hoping he can still take the place in our set-up that he once seemed destined for.
Good move for Briggs hopefully he uses these games to show Jol he is the man to take over from Riise and thay we don't need to go into the market for a left back
Jol seems to rate Briggs .
I think he sees him as the long term replacement for Riise .
This is part of the training / grooming.
As he needs playing time and we are no longer in the Cup to blood the younger players .

Seriously, I think in this stage of his development, a good move for Briggs and Fulham.
