We're coming down for the Everton game and staying the weekend in Putney.
Any tips for
1. decent restaurants in the area, and
2. pubs for pre- and post-match bevvying on Saturday. Preferably one with a bit of Fulham tradition, history and the like.
3. things to do over the weekend. Done touristy London often enough, would genuinely like to see see what Fulham/Putney has to offer.
All advice greatly appreciated, cheers.
Resturants in Putney that I like are:
Mascalzone pizza / pasta at the bottom of the high street (basic but good value)
Enoteca Turi (italian) very good but expensive bottom of high street.
La Mancha - (Spanish) good food and also does Tapas high street
Spotted Horse pub does good pub food
Dukes Lower Richmond Road - Good gastro pub food

So glad you got Graham's surname spelt correctly, one of my boyhood heroes
I am sure you will find at least 2 curry houses. Long time ago, used to be a really good one on upper Richmond Rd., a stones throw from Putney main line station. (hope my geography is correct).
There was also one down by the Bridge, bottom end of High St. It wasn't as good but closer to The Dukes Head.
Food: Hudson's on Lower Richmond Road, La Mancha on Putney High Street, Preto on Putney High Street - all excellent.
Booze: The Whistle and Flute, The Bricklayers, The Rocket (lots of Fulham in there these days).
Things to do: Riverside walk down from Putney to Hammersmith, failing that, just drink and eat!
The Spotted Horse is a pretty fine pub and the food and beer there is good plus there are always a few Fulham fans around.

TheDon, nice idea, but we did a tour of builders yards of west London last year, fancy something different this time round.
I see there's a Who tribute in the Half Moon on Friday night, might take a look there.
Also heard The Golden Lion's a Fulham pub, not got any mentions yet...?

The Golden Lion is an (ahem) acquired taste. Not the sort of place you would go in if there wasn't a match on...
The Low Country (Rockwells) Opp the Club shop.. has a food bit and a bar bit. Nice in there although the bar does get crowded.

Telegraph on Putney Heath is my favourite a Country Pub in London. Fantastic food and drink and a big free car park.
Nice beer & food in "The Rocket"...back of St Mary's Church, by Putney Bridge...by the Thames...

Every other saturday there's an Indie night at The Borderline just off Charing Cross Road. Other than that, there's only The Fez Club, which is a khazi.
Ill have to venture further away then by the looks of it! It'll be a Sunday night as its Sunderland im coming for.

Restaurant: Preto - Brazilian place near the Odeon cinema just before St Mary's Church. I normally just do McDonald's or KFC. If you want something with a bit more 'feel' to it, Burger in the Park whilst walking through Bishops?
Nice Wetherspoons behind the Church too, sit outside and look over the river. Then again, I am young and a pints only £2.20..

I think its very good been there a few times now and always good quality

First trip to CC this season, so here's hoping... I'll happily eat at McDonalds and scoof cider in Bishop's Park if we get three points!

if you want an indie bar then there's the hidden gem of Project Orange in Clapham Junction. It's only small but it's not a club. If you want something more lively then head into town

Just not a very nice establishment...stinks of urine and is very dirty, although it's packed out before and after Fulham games...
Had a great weekend in Fulham/Putney. Stayed at the premier inn on Putney Bridge, so started from there. The Larik before the game on Saturday was good for banter with Everton fans.
Saturday night ended up in Enotica, Italian on Putney High Street. Bit fancy for me, the wine list was 55 pages! But the other half liked it. Recommended for a special occasion, but a bit pricey for every weekend.
Sampled quite a few bars, (the description of the Golden Lion was spot on) my favourite was the Eight Bells, fine for a quiet late drink, and a very relaxed approach to drinking up time :beer:
Good shout with the river walk from Putney to Hammersmith, that blew away the cobwebs on Sunday, and had a cuppa in the cafe at the ground along the way.
Cheers for the tips everyone, we did spread our local radar a bit and will look further afield in Putney or up towards Chelsea on the next trip. Now where's that fixture list.... :scarf:

I went there after reading rave reviews, and it was awful. The food was ok, and they were busy, but they didn't offer us coffee or desserts menu, just plonked the bill down on the table after clearing our mains away wihtout it being asked for. Will never eat there again.
