Villa want to off load Darren Bent. He is 30, English and Villa want £6m for him. The Telegraph say that Fulham are the only team to show an interest in signing him. Anyone think he is worth a gamble.
He always has had a good return on goals when he signs for a new club, so maybe worth a punt for a season or 2.
he is quite good and has some pace
I used to rate him as a player but he has been off the radar until the last game or so of the season. His attitude has sometimes been questionable too but that's undertandable the way Redknapp spoke about him.
£6 million would be a steal if you were to get 10+ goals a season but I'm not sure if you could expect that anymore.
Would rather use the 6 million on an up and coming player or two who could net us a profit down the road. Unless I'm mistaken, we could've had Burak Yilmaz for something in the neighborhood of that amount last season. May have been more like 8 million, but he's worth far more after this past season.
All Bent will do for us is possibly earn us placement money within the table.
We can do better for ourselves IMO.
For £4m I'd be very much inclined to move for him, but £6m could definitely be spent elsewhere I guess, he is the sort of striker we need alongside Berbatov though, someone that is pretty much always going to be in/around the box rather than as deep as Berbatov. Would be nice to have another english player in our team too.
Straight but I have friends who are.
Would rather Bony if we're gonna splash out on a striker.
Bent would really help Berbatov/Ruiz though with his pace. Still think we should get rid of Berba or Ruiz and then buy a quick striker. Ruiz can't play out wide.
no. freakin'. way.
NO THANKS
100% YES
Yes for me. If he can score 10+ goals next season it would be a good deal.
I like Bent he is a good finisher but if he takes up most of our budget we should shop abroad
No budget buster

:plus one:
£6m seems a bit high on our alleged budget.
Did he start his first game last week and score?
I would if we could find a way to get ruiz, berb and a striker who can play off the last man in the same team. If we are not going to try and go for that then its a waste of sweet moolah better spent on a CM who can get beyond our strikers going forward or be bladdy creative.
We've already got one overpaid prima donna who can't be bothered to run or work hard. Why in the world would we get another?

Don't talk about Billy the Badger like that!

YES! he is a proven goalscorer! why wouldn't we want him, seriously? yes, he may be getting on in years but we could easily get 4/5 years out of him.
No, can't see him fitting into the 'total football' style Jol wants to play, he just plays off the last man.
I would like to see him - he is a proven goalscorer in the EPL and will be fresh as a daisy as he hasn't played football for most of this season!!
EB
yes yes yes
I've never been convinced by Bent. The weird thing is that he does get goals, but he just doesn't inspire confidence. That being said, we could use a player of his ilk (a proven goalscorer) in the squad.
The other thing going against him is his age, whilst 30 is not over the hill, there is a risk that there is a big injury waiting over the horizon.
If Villa sat him out most of the season, why is he good enough for Fulham? There was a reason he didn't play. (apart from Benteke)
Not good enough for Aston Villa then not good enough for Fulham.
Ruiz, Berbatov and Bent must mean one of them is on the bench and Bent is said to command a £60,000 per week salary ???
