Title: Now on Talk sport
Post by: spikey norman on July 30, 2013, 06:49:35 PM
One of the topics being discussed is whether Bent would be better off going to us or Newcastle and inviting fans from both clubs to phone in and have their say
In a poll 60% say better off going to Newcaste
Another topic is as today is 47 years ago to the day England won world cup and question is whether England will ever win it again

He'll go to Newcastle anyway. Mackintosh will make it totally impossible for the move to go ahead by penny pinching the life out of the deal. I'm all for being cautious etc, but I think Mackintosh destroys a lot of our business by being far to shrewd sometimes. From what I've heard today, we've also lost Malanda on the basis that we couldn't agree terms with the player. I'm starting to get a little fed up with it all.

I'm sure we'll all be happy come September 3rd.

I think Mackintosh's position( like everyone else's) is vulnerable so he is going out to prove to Khan that he is a tough negotiator which could well be to the detriment of Jol getting the players he wants
Maybe this is why the Osvaldo saga is dragging on

I'm having one of those "Everyone else is doing better than us" days today.. But, for any CEO to say "We've got a world class left back in Briggs" seriously has something wrong with them.

What happened to the idea of respect for people's opinions?

The clue is in the title: CEO. He's not making footballing decisions so why get so irate?

Well, he kind of was, he said "We've got a world class left back in Matthew Briggs". In my book, that's a footballing decision, that's even more than a footballing decision, that's a footballing statement. And do me a favor, don't preach to me about respect, when it's you that goes around this forum half the time disrespecting others about their opinions.

First of all, I'm sort of relieved that I'm not the only one who's been feeling like this; thank God for the FoF forum!

Secondly, as the CEO he may not have much of a say in who plays in the starting XI but surely he has a massive input on transfers.  Briggs may be a decent prospect but labeling as a world class player - if Mackintosh was being serious - is pretty damn disturbing for the club.

Anyway, maybe we're all getting ahead of ourselves when there's over a month of the transfer window left.  Keep the faith.

Come along now Admin do we REALLY want Bent ??? true a great striker, but his head is shot , his hamstring is stringy, splinters in the derriere and the wrong side of 29. There are managers that could get the best out of him but I doubt Jol is that manager.

I don't disrespect people's opinions without cause. If I respond negatively it is because posters have tried to justify their opinions with inaccuracies or spurious arguments.

So, you choose to redefine the term `footballing decision' which is used to describe team selection, transfer targets and the like. As far as we know Alistair Mackintosh has nothing to do with these decisions. So why are you `disrespecting' him? He is only a punter like the rest of us.

Saying "it's you that goes around this forum half the time disrespecting others about their opinions" is just plain abuse.

Your response redefines terms and resorts to abuse because your point does not stand up to any kind of inspection. But then why should it as it is just only another one of your opinions.

Why is it disturbing for the club? Do we really think that Mackintosh has "a massive input on transfers"? I would have thought that he would negotiate them with the transfer targets, the fee limit and the wage limit agreed by the directors based on proposals put forward by Jol.

Does anybody know for certain rather than merely suspect and want to indulge in another round of Mackintosh abuse?

Alistair Mackintosh is a Chartered Accountant. Read his profile on http://www.fulhamfc.com/shahid-khan/directors (http://www.fulhamfc.com/shahid-khan/directors). He will not have any footballing input so in terms of opinions about players he is a punter or supporter if you prefer like the rest of us.

Or do you really believe that he has the ear of Jol and keeps whispering "Briggs is world class"?
Well it's not having any effect is it?

I think he may well be
No other club seems to have such protracted transfers which end up with the player signing for someone else.

Who died and left you in charge of deciding who should be considered wrong? Or that opinions are inaccurate? Or that it is your place to be disrespectful when you think it is warranted? You are disrespectful to other posters consistently on this board, because you think you know better. Please read the rules of using this board again. If they don't make sense to you then there are plenty of other places to post in the manner that you do. I do think if anyone can get the best out of him it possibly is Jol, however has he still got it in him to be at this best in the first place? #

There has got to be a reason why the manager went in there and from the off didn't want to play a former England striker with an incredible record. I think he could be a gamble that will either pay off massively or let us down and be sat next to Rodallega on the bench taking up thousands each week.

Mackintosh is not a punter like the rest of us, he is responsible for the hiring and firing of managers. That is possibly the most important footballing decision.

Who puts together the shortlist?

Although Fayed and Khan probably make the final decision. Mackintosh will have and will have had a big input into who becomes manager.

Oh god, you've had a proper gripe with him in your recent posts! Lol.

I'm sure we'll all be happy come September 3rd.

I'm having one of those "Everyone else is doing better than us" days today.. But, for any CEO to say "We've got a world class left back in Briggs" seriously has something wrong with them.

Where did he say that?

I agree with Admin, i'm having a bad few days of gloom and doom regarding our Transfer policy and what affect it will have on next season
Is Mackintosh the problem?
I think he may well be
No other club seems to have such protracted transfers which end up with the player signing for someone else.

Arsenal anyone?

He'll go to Newcastle anyway. Mackintosh will make it totally impossible for the move to go ahead by penny pinching the life out of the deal. He said that?? I always thought Macintosh was shrewd but if he made that statement I am now very worried. World class and can't command a regular place on the bench? I didn't realise we had so many world class left backs at the club keeping him out of the team.

I'm not sure how much I disagree with our policy.

Other clubs are taken for a ride and get horrible deals leaving the club with a flop or struggling to pay wages. We also have to consider carefully our budget based on our in-comings from home and away fixtures in comparison to the likes of Newcastle, who may not be as attractive in terms of football and league safety etc but are bigger so can afford bigger wages and bring in more signings (Admittedly this window they've done very little but seem favourites to match Bents wage demands as opposed to us).

I do wonder how people would be feeling (read ranting) if we had done a Sunderland and gone spent a small fortune what looks to be not a lot.

Bottom line is, De'Canio was installed late last season, noticed his problem area's and has jumped on them straight away by installing 9 new players, I think?

Everyone had them down as relegation candidates before this, but now with the added quality they will finish a comfortable mid-table (ish).

In regards to their players, they went out and got their targets, no problems. It didn't drag on for weeks/months and there didn't seem to be any hitches either.

We on the other hand seem to constantly flap about, make excuses or completely price a player out of a move.

I'm still gobsmacked as to how Norwich went out and got van Wolfswinkel and Swansea Bony.

But they got them easily because nobody else wanted them?   And I will also hold back passing judgement on how a new manager with a new team fare in the Premier League next season, but if you want to presume that yourself then you crack on.

Additionally, I've not seen the club make one single statement regarding any of these signings or non signings as they may be.  The fact that people think that any of Osvaldo/Bent etc are a possibility is pretty much all hyperbole and stuff quoted from lazy journalists found on the internet.

Sure, we could do with a couple of more players in if they are the right fit, but there is no point running out like headless chickens and blowing whatever budget we may have on players that aren't right simply because the budget is there.

We have another month of the transfer window to go, and we normally do our business rather late so I won't worry until a lot closer to to the end of August than I will now.  Additionally, if we don't get the players that the club are after, we already have three good signings in the bag which will help to shore up what was at times last season, a leaky defence.

You can't call a Sunderland mid table finish already. You've got to see how they perform first. Wholesale changes don't always work out, only have to look at QPR for an example. Yeah, they did spend a ridiculous amount on established players and Sunderland haven't spent the same amount but making a lot of changes quickly doesn't always work out.

I think we had targets in place and we were very shrewd with our acquisitions of Stekelenburg, Amorebieta and Boateng. The takeover has clearly thrown us off course a bit.

You're right. We need to tie up some deals pronto. Allow the team time to gel. This side is lacking

Agreed.  Let's not forget that Sunderland laid out over 30 million pounds last summer, plus a couple of frees who might have been on high wages (Cuellar, Saha) and still barely avoided relegation.  There's no guarantees.
