1-0 Fulham. Great goal by Sidwell in 10th minute

Looking forward seeing that goal in the highlights!
Match threads are hard work without seeing the game ....
What's with Sidwell? two goals in back to back games. Jol wanted goals from midfield. I guess hes got them

The problem I have with Sidwell is that he is a great player when the game is meaningless.....and vice versa of course ;)

Is it me, or Fulham are playing well
Siddy scored from 30 yards?
I will believe it when I see it. :54:
Even Richardson hasn´t cocked up & half hour gone.
"The crowd are shouting 'SHOOT' every time Sidwell gets the ball!"
Unbelievable!
We'll jinx it . Everyone - go back to bitching about things
Gentleman Jim sounds much more chipper about our performance this week.

I like that. It's catchy. You might get a lot of teenage girls at first confused about what's what, but still..
Another half of nice football but not much of an end product then we are left defending and sound lucky to be still infront. Still a nice foundation, shame we are a week away without a cutting edge.
Whichever Parma player hit the bar was crazy unlucky. Beast of a shot that looked like it moved everywhere
Boateng is absolutely superb. Berbatov started dropping too deep. Mesca has looked a threat.
I can't really put my finger on what's missing. Maybe it's just having someone in the box.
I wonder why Amorebieta isn't playing? You'd think that the week before the start of the season, you'd want your top centre backs developing some understanding through extended game play. Does this mean that the Hangeland/Hughes combination is 1st choice? If so, they know each other well enough by now. Don't understand this team selection.

2-1 Parma, shocker
Parma score another headed goal. GJ not happy the keeper didn't come. Okaka looks like a player we could with.
I'm looking forward to some comments from those who made it to the match
Sound just like last season games. Going to be a very long season.........
Meanwhile Hull is stuffing Betis 3-0...Not so sure we are in our best shape yet.
Jol out
I just wish I thought Jol had any better idea what his best team or best formation is a week before the season starts. Three weeks to go for the window to shut. But we have the makings of an average side with some flair in need of a finisher.
Anothewr game where we really didn't create much according to GJ. Worries that we are entering the season the same as last. Better neat football but oh for some danger in the final third.
Pre season games don't count
For the 12 mins he was on Taarabt looked up for it. Somehow he has to start to add some flair & pace. Dave hardly got a touch. Boateng was awesome. A bit nervous about Steck.

...of course they don't, but you try telling the Hull fans that. Fans of teams like a win, no matter what the reason for the game, and especially at home...
In 8 out of our last 14 games last season we failed to score. We have had all summer to remedy what was a glaring issue to many. Ruiz is not a forward. Berbatov does his best work as a co-striker. To all intents & purposes we were again toothless this afternoon - our attacking system does not & has not worked and continues to fail. We NEED a STRIKER to play alongside Berbatov - 6 days to go before the big kick-off. If our 'spearhead' doesn't change, I'm sorry but we are still in for a long hard lean time.
i got the impression from GJ that the 2nd goal could of been prevented by stek. but instead just stayed on his line

What concerns me also is that I have a memory that a lot of the goals we did score were fairly long-range efforts. That was true today as well.
We are static in the attack, and as a result have a lot of difficulty breaking defenses down. Prior to Dejagah's injury we at least had some dynamism on the right due to his good interplay with Riether.
But in general, people don't make as many runs as I'd expect. When Berbatov gets the ball in the box he causes havoc -- but there is rarely anybody making a run for him to lay off to for a good shot.

Yes, there was that terrible spell of six games when the only goal on our scoresheet was an own goal, we just had no threat in the final third.
Let's hope we are not going to see more play like that this season.
Not ideal but pre-season is pre-season. Let's see how we shape up against Sunderland with three points up for grabs.
Just coming back from the game. We looked fairly good for the first 20 minutes. Then it was pretty much all Parma. There is a fundamental flaw with how we play. We just never look like creating anything. Ruiz will most likely be defended on here as normal, but he was very poor once again. Tarrabt came on and looked 100x more influential than Bryan.
Boateng was out best player by a long way today, looks a very good signing.
Tactically most of the players look to have a free role in the team. Dejagah flatters to deceive, and doesn't make the most of the good situations he gets himself in. Berbatov kept dropping too deep and was visibly frustrated.
God knows how the Parma player stayed on the pitch after slapping Karagounis. Being a friendly shouldn't have mattered
It was all a bit groundhog dayish, like watching any number of games last season, lack of pace going forward although Taraabt did liven things up a bit, and to be fair Parma missed a couple of absolute sitters so could have been much worse..really still need a left back, creative midfielder and someone alongside Berba,if us the fans can see that surely MJ and the board see it??

I was trying to convince myself more than anything...
The only way Berba can have a partner up with him is playing 4-4-2. The MF can play as a diamond or wide flat . For me these 4 should be Taarabt, Boateng, Ruiz & Dejagah. The 2 up top must be Berba and either Bent, Osvaldo or possibly Defoe.
Our 4-4-1-1 DOES NOT WORK.
Taarabt played on the left, and looked very good. Duff played on the right when he came on.
We were effectively playing with 10 men for the second half, we are better off putting Bryan or Taarabt upfront than him.
Other than that I thought the team played well. It was very clear that Parma were targetting our better players, and were very reckless in their challenges.
You've got to remember that we won't come up against this style of play in the premier league.
Not that it matter, but what jersey number was Taarabt? Just out of curiosity...
Also, how did Dejagah do?
NO? Stoke. Cardiff. Sunderland......

Cheers. And thank God.
That means:
1. Ruiz will not be benched.
2. Dejagah will not be benched.
3. We will not buy Sako.
4. Taarabt will make the team stronger.
5. Jol is not crazy.

19. Dejagah is losing my faith. Doesn't seem to have a final ball, and cut inside far too much today. When he was switched to the left I don't think he touched the ball
I thought Dejagah was pretty good in the first half.
More of Kasami please, Jol.

First 20 looked very promising, then it all went downhill. I don't think it was helped by Parma's seeming determination to foul all the damn time. Got a bit boring.

We've wanted that for the last 12 months... Don't think it will change
Shoestring budget club for some unknown reason
Week to go & same dreary sideways slow paced nonsense
We played really well for the first half an hour and were good value for the 1-0 lead through the first half. Second half though was a different story we made a lot of changes and Boateng in particular tired badly.
Hugo offered nothing again, he's becoming a problem. Sidwell great goal and better today, but I'm just not convinced he's good enough to be playing in there at all. Boateng was decent, don't think he was at his best ( messed up quite a few passes ), but he normally makes the right decision.
Richardson was good, Riise poor off the bench. Came on with about 10 minutes to go and was massively to blame for the goal didn't even get close to tracking his man.
David looks a good player, Mesca also looked decent though a little raw. Taarabt also had a decent impact on the game. Hoping Karagounis and Duff stay as nothing more than backup though, if Kara is more than that we'll be in big trouble.
Overall that game probably didn't tell us very much. Our first team looked good enough, but I think right now we're one of 5 or 6 teams that should be safely in mid table but if we get injuries to the wrong players we could be in trouble.

Well put. Agree with everything. Based on this game, I reckon after we sign a creator, Sidwell and Boateng will interchange quite a lot. Boateng is more threatening, but Sidwell is a hard worker. We need to do some business before Sunderland, otherwise we are in trouble. Rodallega is not premier league class, neither is Hughes.
Frankly Rodeillega could hardly have made less impact on the game if he had stayed in the dressing room rather than coming on. If he's the only cover we have for Berbatov then we had better pray that Dima doesn't get injured.
by the way that Sidwell goal was very impressive, we'd probably had the ball for about a minute or two and had looked really comfortable switching the ball before we scored.
Rodders is rubbish just look at all the passes he ....oh wait the service to him was non existant especially with all the changes in the second half. Berbatov WITH the first team playing did nice flicks and kicks and little all that was close to goal.
Dejagah was awful in my opinion, he just wasn't getting back and helping Riether with Cassano and Biabiany. Going forward he seemed to lose the ball every time
Quote from: Lighthouse on August 10, 2013, 08:39:10 PM

played a couple of really nice through balls and when someone passed him the ball he actually retained possession. Rodallega had the same team behind him for 15-20 minutes of the second half and he offered pretty much nothing.
Last season I stuck up for Rodallega because unlike Petric he offered something a little bit different, but these last two pre season games he has been awful and I'd expect us to have a better plan B than him come the start of the season.
