Title: The New Stand
Post by: CorkCity on February 02, 2014, 08:41:35 PM
I sit in the riverside these days, when I told some older family members they call the riverside the "New Stand" they are in their seventies and think I have sold out, does anyone consider the riverside as the "New Stand

I still call it the new stand when talking to my old man. Suspect its a 70's fan thing. I don't call the JH stand anything other than the Stevenage Road stand.

...I can see what they're meaning as I remember the old (freezing and wet and windy) uncovered Thamesbank terrace and when the Riverside stand was erected it was the new stand. But for me now, if you said the new stand, I would think you are referring to the Putney End.

That said the 'Johnny Haynes Stand' will always be the Stevenage Road stand to me...

Worryingly, the other stands are either fully temporary or partially & that bothers me a lot.  Can't explain why, but I don't like it.

Riverside is the only proper stand we have.  Therefore it is "the stand" .  The others are not new !

Would love to see it redeveloped.
