Interesting to see the Sky Sports story in todays Fulham Stuff linking is and West Ham with a move for Crystal Palace's goalkeeper Julian Speroni.
He definitely looks like the best keeper in the division and has been their player of the season for the last 3 seasons.
Palace are likely to need the cash and at 31 Speroni is arguably entering his best years. The question is, do we need him and could we offer him sufficient playing time?
Schwarzer rarely misses a game but is that likely to change as he gets to the back end of his career? Also, what back up do we have if Mark gets injured? How comfortable would you be with Zuberbuhler or Stockdale in goal for 10 games or more? Perhaps now is the time to be effecting a handover? If Speroni were to play an active understudy role next season then perhaps he could move into pole position the season after?
We could also offer Palace the sweetener of Stockdale on a season long loan to soften the blow of Speroni's departure. What do you think?
Worst case if we lose Mark, then sign Julian up. I don't think we will lose Mark though.
Schwarz is a good 'keeper no doubt. But the way we play means that he never really gets peppered. ie he may have two saves to make during a game. Someone like Joe Hart will have to contend with many many more threats.
Personally, I think we'll hold onto him and if we do he'll probably finish his career at CC. If we don't then, dare I say it, we've coped with a lot worse than Stockdale/Zuberlhuer and if they're not up to it - bring in someone else. Most keepers will look good for us as we're set up in a good defensive manner - just a consistent role player needed.
Will his friend Sandy be signing as well?
