The Art World has again been rocked by the sensational fraud of The Great Centre Half scandal. It all started when the great French Art Critic Arenene Whiner was rumoured to be interested in buying the Brede painting by Hangeland, It had been in the Fulham gallery and had seemed to be a masterpiece.
But the Brede turned out to be a fraud. In closer inspection the brush strokes were ill defined and the colours ran together like a childs daub. But the French Art Critic denied he was interested in THAT painting but was interested in the little know Artist Smalling. But to Whiners horror a Scottish/American Billionaire (later to be shown to have no money after all) bought the Smalling for a reported Billion Pounds.
But Whiner was relieved to learn that the Smalling too was a fake. Under the right light and display it looked very good. But under the harsh light of gallery conditions it proved to be nothing but a good forgery. Like a fine Wine it was hoped it would improve with age. But The Smalling was a great forgery. It just wasn't the real thing.
