Title: Fulham move to sign Mark Hudson and Matt Smith
Post by: SouthWest6 on August 31, 2014, 04:00:19 PM
Fulham have made moves to sign Mark Hudson and Matt Smith from Championshp rivals Cardiff and Leeds.

Manager Felix Magath is keen to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window after a disastrous start to life in the second tier.

The Cottagers find themselves second from bottom on just one point after drawing 1-1 with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men on Saturday, having lost their opening four fixtures.

Striker Smith could be reunited with Ross McCormack at Fulham. He is pictured (left) scoring against Bradford in the Capital One Cup last week

Hudson played no part in the Bluebirds' draw at Craven Cottage and Magath is hopeful of adding the experienced central defender to his ranks.

The German also wants to bring giant striker Smith to west London from Leeds as he looks reunite the 25-year-old with Ross McCormack, who left Elland Road for £11million earlier this summer.

Smith was an unused substitute as United beat Bolton 1-0 at home on Saturday afternoon.

As it's the mail I'm hoping that this is complete and utter rubbish.

The striker...okay perhaps because Mitro is loaned, Rodders wants out, Woodrow seems more of an impact guy at this point. The defender...why? Would rather the Iranian winger.

Is that the Mark Hudson that started his career at Fulham???

Mark Hudson used to play for Fulham though I don't think he made the first team. He's from Godalming, maybe he wants back.

The forward may have had a useful partnership with McC. It was the forward line that needed tweaking yesterday. That's if Leeds don't want silly money again.

Another £11 million should do it. We have money coming out of our ears.

And if they (and any other Club we might approach for a decent forward) do, are you saying you would rather Khan kept his cheque book in his pocket than we improve our forward line?

If you read that into what I said it was purely your imagination.

If this were true and I hope its not as the money Cellini will want then we should have been after Troy Deeney before he signed a new 4 yr contract with Watford

I'm sorry, but you just can't play football like this, well not at a good level anyway;

Husdon did start his career at Fulham and has been well regarded at Palace and Cardiff among others where he has been plied his trade, but do not see he is really required

Matt Smith is a big old lump at 6'6" he good in the air and strong, but not exactly mobile or a prolific scorer. He got 12 goals in 42 appearances at Leeds, where he did partner McCormack, although how influential he was to Mc's goal tally last season who knows. Prior to Leeds he was at Oldham where he scored something like 9 in 90 odd appearances. You might remember him as the lad who came on to score against Liverpool a couple of season ago in a televised game at Boundary Park. Caught the eye at the time and was a handful, but does not seem to have come on much since then. Millwall made a 1.4 million bid back at the start of the season which Leeds turned down flat, but that could've been because McCormack was on his way.
Neither player excites that much though.

I've seen rumours from the "Transfer latest" accounts on twitter that we have also made a move for Lewis McGugan as well as Matt Smith.

Lewis McGugan is a good shout. Good attacking midfielder, but I can't see Watford letting him go without a fight. Was very much part of the team last year unless things have changed.
I'd really like a ball playing midfielder, some one to pick those much needed defence splitting balls - someone with a bit of vision and creativity. Jack Cork from Southampton would've been nice, but Koeman has been giving him game time recently.

Pretty sure I remember Mark Hudson playing for the first team in the League Cup. Probably before most of the glory hunters started supporting the club.  However I thought I read a couple of weeks ago that he had a serious injury and was likely to be out for months - or am I imagining it.

Did he not play on Saturday? Looks a good defender . Looked good against Blackburn last time I saw him, too.

He may have, I'm pretty sure he didn't play in the league though. He left shortly after Tigana came in. He did seem a good prospect leading up to that but I recall talking to him about the new regime and he didn't seem too enthusiastic, maybe because he didn't see a chance for himself.

He's a local man and a decent type.
