Title: The Back Four???
Post by: White Half on September 01, 2014, 08:44:54 AM
Is there a mutual agreement within FOF that the back four that started at the weekend was the best FM could have possibly picked based on the current squad we have???

Some said Burn was responsible for their goal, though generally agreed that he has been great since returning.

It's good that we can be talking positively about our defenders though, although we have only kept one clean sheet -in the cup.

That back four seemed pretty solid though.

Probably the best back four we've had for a couple of years.

The back 5 vs. Cardiff shouldn't change. If we sign Mark Hudson, it could. Bodurov has been our best defender, and I don't want Burn to be dropped.

It will be harsh on the development of Hutchinson and Burgess but Dan Burn is the voice the back four has been missing and Bodurov is turning into the immovable object. Sticking with the two backs means Hoogland can play further up and he had a decent game alongside a couple of errors but again time and consistency will hopefully resolve that. It seems a Fulham trait all the way back to Konch, Pantsil and JAR that the full backs concede so much space and drift into the middle but lets stick with it for a game or ten. I have always thought that the keeper is an integral part of the back four and that was much better on saturday.

Mr Smith. Our take on the Cardiff goal was more about Kenwyne Jones doing what he does. The guy is a big unit and our left back got bounced simple as that.

I agree its the back 5 I've been crying out for since watching the Crawley game where it was clear Burn was a better player than Hutchison but the others looked comfortable in that Back 5.

I'm happy with the present full- and centre backs but maybe FM sees Mark Hudson, if he really is under consideration, as a more experienced partner for Bod. Part of an experienced spine of the team if you like, running from him through Parker to McC.

Having said that, I'm happy with Burn.

With our current squad, I do think that Saturday's back four is our best. Dan Burn's aerial ability is monstrous and it compliments Bodurov's game very well. My only issue with Burn is that his ball ability is woeful, if you're going to play the long ball, at least find your target. If he can sharpen his passing then he's a mainstay, can't complain about his pace because it's difficult for him at 6ft 7 to be be much quicker.

I don't see how anyone can blame burn for that. He couldn't have gone over to jones after staffy got put on his ass or the player that slotted him in would have been clean through on goal

Maybe Burn did back off a little, he was focused on the ball, but Jones had plenty of space and could easily have shuffled slightly to his right if Burn had gone into the tackle, and still had a straight shot at goal.
No blame on Burn I think.
