Post by: Mince n Tatties on December 15, 2014, 07:19:46 PM
Channel 5 have agreed a 3 year deal with the Football League for
Highlights Show.
BBC used to be the home of sport, they now lost All racing
from Royal Ascot, National, Cheltenham Festival..Cricket Test Matches.

At least we won't have to wait until 12-1am to watch now

Apparently 9pm will be the new slot

Oh great! Does that mean we will get a commercial break in the middle of our 30 second slot?

Considering there's 72 clubs wouldn't it make more sense to have 'the championship' as it's own show and then the football league show for league 1 and 2 on a Sunday morning?

That way all the championship games get a decent coverage and the lower league supporters wouldn't have to wait up all night just to see a 30 second clip. They could even have their own pundits who are experts on that level of football.

I'm pleased the football league show is losing out to channel 5, hopefully it will be a sensible time and we won't always have a tiny slot. I do like the presenter on BBC but the production is ridiculous. Very late for very little point.

Hopefully channel 5 put more effort into it

agree...a classic case of 'less is more'.........to have that frantic parade of 30 second action from each game is just pointless...if for no other reason it just makes your head spin to try to follow it.

'ITV, which will be without Champions League football by that time, is expected to challenge the BBC for the Match of the Day slot'. Quote from the guardian.

I'm really hoping that the PL doesn't go back to ITV. That will probably mean adrian chiles presenting it. The thought just makes me depressed.

If the Championship is given the same respect by Channel 5 as that other Richard Desmond owned media outlet, the Daily Express, the show will probably be presented by a big brother runner-up. Every Monday, the Daily Express summarises all of the weekend football league matches including the Championship in one half page of the paper. They usually do not mention more than 5 games across all 3 divisions.

Richard Desmond doesn't own C5 anymore, he just concentrates on his prawn channels and vile red tops these days.

Also owns the Health Lottery and surprise surpise has set it up as loads of local lotteries under the guise of one big Lottery to avoid paying any VAT or Gaming taxes putting more money into his pocket and is now looking to sell it for £100m.

BBC will most probably start showing adverts. I understand that it's due to some sort of license fee but wouldn't surprised me if it changes.

I'll just record it as usual and watch a recording so can fast forward through the adverts.  Do that with all programmes on ITV etc (except live football matches etc).

The BBC's sports coverage is a joke and has been for ages, yet they trumpet their "sports personality of the year" programme as one of their "highlights". I haven't watched it for years-it's ridiculous.
