Title: Our strongest back 5
Post by: General on August 28, 2015, 04:44:19 PM
A lot has been made of our team admittedly but it seems quite clear to most our defence is our weakest link and has been for years.

In light of Husbands aquisition, albeit for a month and presumably to head off when Garbutt is back from injury - have we really made strides in improving our defence and if so, what is our best line up?

I fear, despite the competition that we now have (if Husbands loan was extended and Garbutt was still here), we would still look weak, especially at CB - I just don't have confidence there at all and feel we are subsequently very vulnerable and will struggle in this league.

Anyway

                  Lonegran/Betts?

Jazz --- Burn --- Ream --- Garbutt

Or
               Lonergran/Betts

Jazz -- Ream --- Husband -- Garbutt.

Still not inspired it has to be said - I'm not a professional footballer, but I would fancy myself against any of our Cb's - I am 6ft and a semi big guy but still 0 their lives have been building up to be better in their positions.

I feel more comfortable with Lonergran in goal although Betts is obviously a very good young player.

Husband at CB?? Burn at RCB??

I'd go with: Jazz - Ream - Burn - Husband, but would expect Kit to go with: Jazz - Hutch - Ream - Husband tomorrow.

Lonergan is obviously starting for now. No point in thinking about Betts for a long time, but think Kit will have him as first choice when fit.

Be harsh on Burn to get dropped for Hutch. Both games Burn has played we have got points from and a clean sheet the other night as well.

It was harsh when Lonergan was dropped for Betts after a good performance against Cardiff. It was unfair when Cauley was dropped for Moussa after a good performance against Huddersfield.

You know how much I like Dan, but I think Kit has his favourites and wouldn't be surprised if both Dan and Ryan are dropped tomorrow.

I hope I'm wrong (and think Dan has a better chance of starting than Tunni), but Kit likes who he likes...

I've watched the Shef Utd vid a couple of times and thought that Ream looked quite useful. He saw a lot of the ball early on and looked comfortable and intelligent. However, Sheffield were hardly a potent threat, which didn't prevent a few panicky moments in our box, and Ream didn't seem to be tested much defensively. On what we have seen so far, I'd rather expect Hutch and Burn to start tomorrow provided Hutch is fully recovered from his blow to the head - cue Gordon Strachan's comment on his favourite centre-half, Claus Lundekvam, when asked if he had recovered after coming off the field with concussion: "I've no idea - He's always like that."

I think with Husband having trained today and Kit's cryptic comment at the end of the interview he starts with Richards and then Hutch and Burn, Ream will be on the bench. As MJG commented elsewhere that effectively means we have seen Voser play his last game....

I agree with you there, Kit does not seem to favour rewarding players who do well with another start or performance.
He seems to have the mindset to revert to what he considers his best xi asap. Not sure that's the best way as it almost becomes a closed shop for players and the motivation to do well reduces, knowing you are unlikely to budge that player who is the fav.
That's not a go as a such at Kit but managers in general who do that.
