Title: Fulham's Worst Premier League XI:
Post by: FPT on October 19, 2015, 10:29:39 PM
From 2001 to 2014, who are the worst players to play for Fulham in the Premier League era and can we eventually make a team?

Nice little game in the build up to our game against Leeds.

Halliche has to be in their. One sub appearance (I think) and he gave away a penalty...though that might have been in the cup actually.

Andranik? Gecov? David Elm? Eddie Johnson?

Dikgacoi would make my first 11.

Awful player only memorable by his debut.

Michael Brown would be my other pick for midfield. He was talented to some extent but merits a place for his thuggish antics.

Tony Warner deserves a nod as does Franck Queudrue

I agree with Michael Brown -- not because he couldn't play, but because he was a headhunting thug

I quite liked Queudrue. Dunno why.
Pony Warner was a funny one. Some games he looked world class but most of the time he lacked concentration from about the 3rd minute.

Halliche was actually a very good player not given a chance at Fulham for some reason. Watching some of his games at international level was an indication of his quality. Any selection of the worst in our Prem days HAS to include Lastuvka, Quedrue (always remember his performance against Rommedahl when we played Charlton), Elm, Elrich, Kuqi, Eddie Johnson, the nightmare Zesh and Zat centre back pairing, JAR, Nikolas Jensen, and my two pet hates who actually had talent but signally failed to make much of it Radzinski and Kamara. Radzinski is probably the biggest coward I have ever seen on a football pitch and he used to annoy me more than I can say.

that's going to take some beating  (if you see what I mean) but I always liked Adam Green, especially after his stunning debut v Man Utd at the Cottage. I never quite understood why he faded,

Adam Green never played at the Cottage.  His little spell in the team came at Loftus Road when Bonnissel got another long term injury and there was no one else. I think you're referring to Rosenior who got motm vs Utd at the Cottage when Diop scored that screamer

Aah yes you're right re THAT match and Rosenior/Diop.  (But AG did play at the Cottage not very long before that great game, eg 16/10/04 v L'pool)

I don't know whether its worth talking about game time vs expectation? I would go Riise over Green, for both reasons - he was a consistent figure in a relegation season, as well as the expectations being reasonably high from his previous career accomplishments.

Elsad is definitely in, he didn't even look any good in the Championship, let alone in the Premier League. Scrap that, I saw him play in central midfield in an Under 21 game and he was a level below Chris David and Lasse Vigen Christensen.

I like your team and subs Danny.  The only change I would make would be to put Malik Buari straight into the first team and drop Bobby Petta to the bench.  Who I'd leave off the bench is tricky.

Now we know what it's like for the Manager with difficult team selections  :005:

Blimey Malik Buari. There's another name I didn't think I'd see again. I remember him coming off the bench against Sochaux in the Intertoto and having a decent shot. But that's all I remember lol. Another poor graduate from that era.

Do we class Dean Leacock and Omozusi the same??? I think they were a step above to be fair

tonywa - Even allowing for his inflated transfer fee you could not include Kamara in a Worst XI. Just taking his goals at Man City, the screamer against Spurs and the odd contribution in Europe makes it ridiculous to mention him in this connection.

I think you're being a bit hard on Andranik -- not as hard as the dubious goals panel though. He scored twice for us and both goals were reclassified as OGs.

I would definitely add Seol to the list. At the time, he was the only untalented Korean in the English game.

JAR?  Certainly not.

The problem with this Worst XI idea is that some of the worst players at a given point in time were better players for the club earlier in their careers.  Age and injuries take their toll.  And sometimes, for no discernible reason, a fair to middling player will just get in a God Awful slump and not come out of it.  Do we average out how they played throughout their entire time with the club, or just look at their worst season(s)?
