Post by: FPT on April 14, 2016, 02:15:42 PM
On a three man shortlist, Ross McCormack is joined by Burnley's Andre Gray and Brentford's Alan Judge.

At the Football League awards on Sunday, Fulham could make it a Player and Young Player pair of winners: http://www.friendsoffulham.com/forum/index.php?topic=53556.0.

Here's the former winners of the award:

2015: Patrick Bamford (Middlesbrough)

2014: Danny Ings (Burnley)

2013: Matej Vydra (Watford)

2012: Rickie Lambert (Southampton)

2011: Adel Taarabt (Queens Park Rangers)

2010: Kevin Nolan (Newcastle United)

2009: Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

2008: Kevin Phillips (West Bromwich Albion)

2007: Jason Koumas (West Bromwich Albion)

Ross will have to outscore Gray to win it IMHO. Gray's got 2 more goals and very similar stats otherwise with fewer games played.

That said, Judge's stats from midfield are pretty friggin' impressive.

Looks a very tight contest.

It should be Ross but Gray will get it.

Well done Ross.  A worthy shortlist.  The other two would be in my top 5 opposing players along with Adomah, Loovens and McDonald.  Thought Judge was inspirational.

Though with 26 goals conceded from 41 games, a case could probably also be made for any 'Boro defender.

These sorts of awards generally go to successful sides, right?

I mean, I think that Ross is the most important player in the league this season, but ... .

Do they consider 'assists' etc and does anyone know what the stats on that are.
Ross must have a bucket load

Well done Ross, thoroughly deserved. I suppose we are biased saying he deserves it considering how well he's done in a poor side. But would we also be very confused and disappointed if the shoe was on the other foot, we were at the top and a player at the bottom pipped Ross to the finish?

These things normally go to someone who is winning the league. It's a testament to the quality and importance of both our strikers that they have been selected as the top 3 players of the season for their age group.

You can't help but be very proud of them both. Imo Dembele is nailed on to win but Ross would need a strong finish to beat Gray. What an achievement it would be if both of them were to win. Has that ever been done before?

Did Saha and Sean Davis do that?

Danny,

The Football League Awards were established in 2006 and I can't seem to find any prior awards.

Both Gray and Judge accumulated their stas in fewer matches as well. Not trying to make an argument against Ross (thoroughly deserved on his part IMO), but....

If this were a MVP to his team award, I don't believe that it'd be even close. Ross for certain. We'd be goners without him.
