Title: Old Sod's Army-what defence?
Post by: bog on April 16, 2016, 08:18:00 AM
For the last three seasons our defence has been less than ragged. Perhaps, in the coming close season, the penny may drop and we sort this problem out.  MacCormack was brought to score goals and he has kept his part of the bargain, the thought of he leaving is of some concern.  How far we have dropped from the Hangaland and Hughes central partnership era.

Looking at SJ's comments he knows what the problem is, but as he only has the defence he inherited there is not a great deal he can do. Watch this space for next season.

I think SJ knows already and last night with no Madl the script was written. Our defenders lack the cohesive powers and little ability to defend for 90 minutes and I expect we will look very different next season.

Was surprised Baird didn't start as defensive midfielder alongside Parker. The defensive qualities of our midfield are always compromised when O'Hara plays, whatever his strengths going forward.  As for the penalty, watching the Sky replay several times, it is quite clear that Stearman shoves the Brighton player in the back, though he does go down comparatively easily.  It's about as brainless a piece of defending as Amorebieta at Reading.  How many penalties is that we've conceded this season, a fair number of them totally avoidable?

Stearman is a clown. He had a shocking game and it won't be long before he has another. Regardless of how the player went down the ref was given no choice. It looked like a shove from where I was sitting and regardless of the strength, a shove is a shove and it was a nailed on penalty.
