Title: Scoring goals and defending
Post by: mullers on April 16, 2016, 11:30:59 AM
When was the last time the second highest scorers in a league spent a lot of the season fighting relegation?

I might be in a minority of one, but individually I think we have defenders who should be good enough to put us in a position to be challenging for the play-offs at the very least. I keep thinking of the mess that Felix created with the team and how McCormack sacrificed his role to try and make sense of things and I wonder if the effects of the shambles we became still affect the squad.

I'm not trying to make excuses for them, I just can't work out how we can be so good and so poor - sometimes in the same game

"Defenders who should be good enough" you say.

Well this seasons signings were supposed to put right the madness that had gone before!

So why has it failed to improve things?
All we seem to have achieved is to match last years disaster, similar points gained, similar goals conceded?

I agree with all those points, but part of me feels that this season is unique because I've never known a situation where what's good about the performances is promotion material and what's bad leaves us in a situation where it could be claimed we're lucky not to be where Charlton are.
