Title: When did our capacity increase?
Post by: The Equalizer on August 19, 2010, 08:35:17 AM
I've just spotted this article in today's Fulham Stuff:

http://www.fulham.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=209779 (http://www.fulham.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=209779)
Fulham - It`s a Sell-Out!
It`s very pleasing to read that our first home game of the season is now a sell out.

Craven Cottage will be rocking with
27,500 supporters packed inside to see Fulham take on Manchester United.

Having beaten United in our last two encounters, in the Premier League, at Craven Cottage, Fulham will be seeking a unique hat-trick.

It also gives the Fulham faithful the opportunity to officially welcome Mark Hughes to Craven Cottage with only a smattering having turned up for the pre-season friendly with Werder Bremen.

We had a maximum capacity of 25,600(I think) last season, so where did these extra 2000 come from? I wasn't aware that any construction work taking place over summer other than the under-soil heating?

I think it was a typo?

STADIUM FACILITIES

Capacity:
25,700

First Aid
There are two First Aid points in the ground. The first is next to the Open Air Bar under the Riverside Stand and the second is in the Putney End undercroft.

Official Merchandise
Matchday is a major opportunity for Fulham's retail operation and in order to maximise merchandise sales a new, larger store was opened in August 2005 in the Johnny Haynes Stand. Furthermore, the shop at the stadium is supported by the Fulham Road Shop which offers plenty of retail opportunities for those on their way to the ground on a matchday and in the local area on a non-matchday. There are also two mobile units around the stadium on matchdays that make Fulham products available to fans once they have entered the Cottage.

Away Fans and the Neutral area
Craven Cottage has been configured to allow the number of seats provided to the away club to vary between the minimum League requirement and up to a maximum of nearly 6,500. This has proved to be a huge advantage over the last couple of seasons when the Club was selling games with a large demand from the visiting club and a lesser demand from home fans (e.g. Cup ties against lower League opposition) as the Club is obligated to remove tickets from general sale when the away allocation and neutral areas sell out.

Tickets within the 'neutral' area of the Putney Stand are sold on the premise that the individual could be sat next to a supporter of either team, or indeed a genuine neutral. The neutral area effectively acts as a buffer zone, allowing the Club to continue to sell tickets once the away allocation has sold out. The introduction of the neutral zone has been warmly received by all fans and has reduced the occurrence of away fans securing seats in home areas of the stadium over the last two seasons. The Big Match Package is also only be available in this area.

As far as I know, and remembered Alistair saying at a fans forum we do have the capacity of around 27.500 but are not allowed to sell more tickets than the official 25.700. It apparently comes down to the logistical problems with how people leave the ground. The police won't let us sell full capacity until we manage to spread the flow of people to more than the main two ways of exit down Finley Street and through Bishops Park.

All part of the feud between the club, the residents and "The Friends of Bishops Park" I guess....

Cheers Nick, something that I never knew. I think we could solve this by knocking a few of the houses down on Stevenage Road ;)

Either that, or just force the owners to sell their property to proper Fulham fans who would have a "no-complaint clause" in their leasehold  :57:

I thinkthat would be a nice addition to MAF's legacy for the club. Buy every house near the ground and let them out at a peppercorn rent to derserving Fulham supporters (maybe we could start a Fulham FC version of the the dark side pensioners with uniforms and everything!!). If at the same time he could buy up all the pubs and make them shrines to FFC and its supporters that would be much appreciated as well.  :54: I for one would love to drink in a boozer called 'The Al Fayed Arms'.

Brilliant idea WN, positively superb in fact. I vote that we have a supporters whip round, buy 'Joe Cools' on Fulham High Street and rename it "The Al Fayed Arms".

Add a couple of bedrooms and I'll stay at the Al Fayed Inn, and do my drinking in the Al Fayed Arms.

A bridge over the river is the answer, using the old Wembley twin towers as an entrance. MAF has these stored away in a warehouse somewhere. Stick a car park over there.. et voilà.
