Title: Lady Luck
Post by: Andy S on May 17, 2017, 09:52:01 AM
Football is a game of skill  but there is also a huge element of the unknown. It's called luck.some say you make your own luck. I know referees make mistakes it is part of the game but how we had so many decisions go against us over the two games is mystifying. Well my lucky shirt is in the bin I'll have to buy a new one

Reading made their own luck over the two games and that is why they are at Wembley.  However she is a fickle lady and if Sheffield Wednesday win tonight then both sets of fans are due an afternoon of purgatory because both play to the same rules and only one can win bad just as only one can win good.  I won't cheer for the winners or cry for the losers unless Huddersfield are involved.

Yes luck plays a part in football and perhaps that handball decision last night , just inside the penalty area was a shade unlucky, some refs may not have given it.
But of course the main reason for our defeat was the fact that we did not score and the reason we did not score was that we missed a number of good chances.
Now there is not a lot unlucky about that it is more due to the fact that we are missing a couple of good goalscorers.

Absolutely. Let's hope we can put that right in the summer.

reading in the two games pushed their luck and the referees fell for it, as usual, not stampping out the gamesmanship.

our bad luck was not signinmg a decent center forward that puts the ball away, we scored far too few 'scrappy goals' and headers. Our bad luck was not signing a physical presence in defence/midfield that would put the fear of g-d in the opposition, what keown calls an enforcer!
our bad luck was having an owner that didn't make the necessary investment in January to ensure success and thereby let slip through our fingers the  wonderful opportunity we had this season.

when we lost to wolves and drew with blackburn it was clear that the effect of his inactivity was a big drag on the efforts of the team.

We were sublime at times but too few in numbers, as isaid at the time and repeated, this was just klike ernie clay all over again and look what happened after that season.

Thought Bett's save in the first half was good but the double save from the free kick and follow up by Al Habsi and then the one in the 2nd half from Mcdonald was amazing. We did get a lot of stupid niggly decisions against us in the home leg but along with the Swift miss I think we had quite a bit of luck in the game last night.
