Title: Quote from Tom Cairney
Post by: Andy S on June 02, 2017, 08:30:16 AM
"I'm still gutted about how it all ended, but it has made me all the more determined to go one better next season...

"Thanks again for the support since the day I arrived at this club!"

Does that sound like Cairney is about to leave?

He also said he loved playing in the team, wish he had said he loves playing in the team, it is just me being picky but I hate past tense comments

Only time will tell... History is littered with people professing love to their club only to sign for another one soon after.

I am not having a go at Cairney as I do genuinely feel that he has loved his time here. But he is a "hot prospect" for a potential transfer to a premier league club so from that perspective, at risk of moving on.

Not really, it sounds like TC and/or the Fulham media ghost writer were trying to find some suitably gracious and optimistic words in response to winning POTS.  He might stay, he might go, even he may not know which.  Decent player with a bright future any which way.

I wouldn't get to forensic regarding the grammar.
IMO the reason to be optimistic he wants to stay is that he actually said....
I'm still gutted about how it all ended, but it has made me all the more determined to go one better next season
And surely that means one better with us... he clearly does love playing for us and this manager (I heard an interview on radio london where he said as much in words of one syllable).
I am hopeful he will stay and providing the manager can properly strengthen the squad and we really do have enough quality players to make an attempt at top two realistic Tom will remain. I think that is key, if we do not make proper investment at the right time, he may yet reconsider.

that what half tempts me to sell and get the money, surely we cant go another season with no one figuring out just get him on the right foot

I wasn't hung up about not it just thought could have been worded better

How much is realistic / proper investment as ind Not see us spending more than 12/15 million without any incoming fees

That's what I was thinking. If we could get 15m for him and be guaranteed a two-footed replacement who is no worse than him then I would let him go. Otherwise he has to stay.

'loved playing in the team' can simply relate to the season just ended since it is all in the past.

Regardless we have at least two months for pennies to drop and notes to be handed around and I don' t believe anyone has a clue at this moment in time how it'll all pan out.

As much as I love Carney, he is a football player after all. Football players are not known for education. So, it might just be a mannerism he has when he speaks. He will be player of the season next year when we gain automatic promotion.

Good to hear these words from Tom but will they mean enough when the firm offer from Newcastle is on the table which will probably mean:-
1. His wages are doubled
2.Regular Premiership football.
3.Playing in front of 50,000 home crowds.
4. Matches against the big six English clubs.
5. Regular TV exposure.

I don't disagree tosh, just saying he as captain could have said I love playing in this team which would indicate he and others are staying. it is just my picking up on what was said nothing major, I was just saying I prefer positive forward thoughts not past thoughts
