Title: Gera
Post by: The Swan on September 21, 2010, 02:12:01 PM
Gera was on the bench last Saturday and came on for the last few minutes.Has he fallen out with Mark Hughes, as I think Gera is a better player than Duff.
I do hope that Gera is in the starting line up against Everton this Saturday.

Duff is a much better winger than Gera, although Duff has been a tad disappointing so far this season.

To me Gera competes with Dempsey for the spot behind Dembele at the moment.

...I must admit to be concerned that if our former manager is still in a managerial position by the next transfer window that he may come sniffing awound for Zoltan Gera, as Finn suggests, with BZ now out for the season I think he and Dempsey would make a good foil for Dembele, and as things stand at the moment I would start him ahead of Dempsey against Everton.

God! the thought of Zolly going to Liddlepool - they would call him Fab Gera (like)...

I would like to see him start v. Everton too.  As a player I rate him higher than Clint.

Without Zamora it's going to take some experimentation to see what works best.

Gera excells as support striker not on the wing. Unfortunately there's currently no striker to support and both Dempsey and Dembele are best in that same support role.

It may therefore be necessary for Hughes to work out who is least bad as a striker or play with a flexible interchanging formation.

I'd like to see more of Gera but I'm by no means sure at whose expense.

Gera has really ONLY excelled in the support role as Tony points out so he doesn't offer much else, however he has done well there so maybe that is enough. I think maybe Gera has done a tad better in that role than Dempsey, however Dempsey plays better defense, IMHO, so it will be interesting to see what pairing works best in the end. I would think given it is a cup match we may see some mixing it up on the front as I am guessing Gera will start along with Elm.

Gera played the same type of role for Kamara at West Brom? it will be interesting to see if he gets the nod in front of Clint when Joe comes back

I can't understand why Gera doesn't get AT LEAST 15-20 minutes or the occasional start. It's odd because he had such a great run in Europe last year (appearances 14: goals 6) and i was absolutely shocked seeing that his goal return in league matches is poor  (appearances 62: goals 4).

I really like Gera and I know that he will do his bit for the club, hopefully Hughes will find a way to utilized him.

I think clint has to many off days or goes missing for too long in games he also gets the hump alot. so for me i would  like gera too start a few more games he is a bit more of a team player has well and always gives 100%

So how would you deploy Gera against Everton?

Gera would play behind Kamara, reigniting their goalfest at west brom a few years ago. Failing that Dempsey/Gera combo. If that is not working bring on Dalle Valle with Gera behind.
