Title: OK... I AM FRANKLY SICK OF YOU ALL... and I expect better from you...
Post by: mccscratch on September 23, 2010, 02:11:35 PM
Enough of the slagging off Eddie Johnson...face it...for the next few weeks...he will be playing up top for our team...the very team we all support...

Constantly in every thread it seems people on here dismiss him... not good enough, no skills, donkey this, donkey that...

SHUT THE HELL UP... Half of you don't know what you are even talking about... He has played in the last three matches and honestly is not anywhere near horrible like you all claim over and over and over ad nauseum...

Perhaps 1 out of the 1000 of you even went to Stoke and yet are giving no credit into the fact that we actually were the better side once he came on in the 57th minute... The one or two reports from guys that actually made the trip on over on the offal stated that he was actually not bad and made their defense a little shakier with the threat of the through ball...You all act like this kid has never scored a goal in his life despite the fact that he was one of the more prolific strikers in MLS and scored important goals for a team still taking part in Europa League who actually wanted him back...No the MLS and the Greek Superleague are not the Prem but guess what??? We have no fricking healthy strikers right now (Also you lot that are screaming for David Elm are just retarded...he is nowhere near as useful as Eddie) and until they come back he might very well play an important part for us over the next month... Get off his back and starting cheering him on as he is a confidence player...

I have seen Eddie score lots of goals for Kansas City as that is my MLS team and he actually is a very decent footballer but most of you can't get a hold of the fact that players improve and adapt at different paces... the fact is Mark Hughes would never have him near the pitch if he was as awful as you all say... also for you morons that state "Heck, I am better than EJ"... get off it...cause your are not and never will be...

When you say "you all" do you mean us all? if so, I would like you to show me a post were I have criticised EJ.

I too have supported him as our only forward and have even named him ahead of Gera. So it hurts when you are criticised for supporting EJ and then hurts again when you are told you are not supporting him enough. I can do without this constant and needless attacks.  :012:

I honestly don't think its an EJ thing specifically mccscratch I think Elm, EJ, AL and Kamara have all had a lot of flack over recent months - almost none of it deserved in my opinion but it seems that if you are injured or not getting in the first team for any other reason you are a bad person who is taking our hard spent supporter pounds.

The bottom line is that Sparky seems to think he is worth perservering with and he should therefore get his chance over the next couple of months to show what he can do. He had a very good pre-season by all accounts and I think Sparky's more attacking style will benefit EJ in the long run.

I hope EJ proves his doubters wrong but nothing that I've seen from him gives me any confidence that he will.

Wake up on the wrong side of bed this morning mrscratch?

You infact highlight the exact problem with Eddie Johnson in your rant - he is the last resort. We have no other fit and viable strikers for the Everton game so we have to go with last resort Eddie. Why has he not played much and consistently shifted out on loan? Probably because he is not good enough. Surely if he was any good he would have started a few games under Hodgson?

Yes he has scored in the US and yes he is not as bad as we all make out but he is certainly no great shakes either. I would love him to prove me wrong and knock in 10 goals this season but I think Hangeland has a better chance of notching that tally than EJ.

I do still have a belief that EJ will grab a last minute winner at some point this season - at which point you will no doubt come back on here and scream in our faces about how you were right etc.

I can't recall criticising his performances to date but maybe now could be my big chance.

IMO EJ is abottom of the barrel striker. I will cheer him on at Everton if he plays but I do not rate him as a player and do not feel that he has enough skill to become a fully fledged PL striker - starting week in and week out.

BZ took a hell of a slagging but blossomed into a fine player. AJ is regularly and wrongly written off but is also a good striker and I will no doubt point this out again when he is fit again and poaching goals once more.

It's nothing personal against EJ, I just don't think he is good enough to be starting for us.

for me he hasn't done anything wrong, due to the fact he hasn't done anything of any note yet,
now is his time to shine,if he goes on that pitch in a Fulham shirt he has my backing that's a given,so lets see what the boy can do!

...and I'm sick of sweeping generalisations!

Employing Blitzkrieg tactics to post your points of view will not be a popular stance, and you cannot change opinions that people may have formed from what they themselves have viewed.

The only person who can make those who doubt his ability at this level (and I'm one) is Eddie Johnson, and if he scores 15 goals this season do you think I will be sad at being proved wrong..?

Am I included?  I never said a word about Eddie Johnson on any forum ever.  I don't think any comment about the relative merits of a player, no matter who he plays for, ever justifies the outburst that you have thrown out at us.  Evidently there are some, perhaps many, who do not agree with your point of view - so what?  It happens, deal with it.

Frankly, I see no reason for you to get your tits in a tangle over this.

Grow up, eh?

As a yank, I'm afraid I'm am with the majority.  "honestly is not anywhere near horrible" is a description of me and I'm old & fat. And as much as I would like to believe, I am not Premiership quality. Lets all hope EJ is the break out story of the league this year, but lets all be real. Come on back fast Bobby!!

As yet, in England, EJ hasn't proved himself to be good enough. He wasn't good enough first time round at Fulham or on-loan at Cardiff. He did score a few goals in the Greek League for what is a good team which beat Atletico Madrid in the Europa League! Lets hope Hughes has seen enough in training and his appearance from the bench that he believes he can get the best out of EJ and make him a decent striker and score 5 maybe 10 goals this year.

Dempsey took time to gain the status he has now, and as I understand it he was a hot prospect from the US. He needed to adapt, and has for a couple of seasons been one of our standouts, and is one of my favourite players in the current set up. BZ has taken a season to gain the following and respect (England call up) that he has done.

From what I saw of EJ most recently, in the Wolves game, he didn't excite me as a striking option when he came on, while he seems quick his touch was a little off. But he has not been given the chance to build his confidence. We all trusted that Roy knew who was worthy of keeping hold of and playing, and he sent EJ out on loan. I hope Hughes has seen that he can work with Eddie's potential.

I wanted Elm to be our cheap, little secret that scored for fun. But he wasn't, and I don't think he will be. Between him and EJ, they are our most out and out strikers who are fit at the moment. Honestly from what I have seen they are both Championship level. I would love to be proved wrong (does happen a lot :dft001:), and I hope Hughes helps to build EJ's potential into the player he has been in the USA.  Perhaps partnering him with Dempsey might rebuild confidence?

I've actually got more hope for Elm than EJ.

I think he's been unlucky with illness and injury. His big weakness is a lack of pace but he's big, willing, has decent touch and, I think, a fair amount of nous.

Used as a target man I can see him being useful for Gera, Dempsey, Dembele etc.

EJ's game essentially is the same as AJ but without the necessary control or composure.

But as others have said - prove me wrong. Please.

Epsom...did you see the Stoke miss or did you just listen to GJ? Quite frankly we all know GJ has his favorites and the ones he constantly knocks on the broadcast... Clint was not given any credit by GJ for quite some time until it could not be avoided... The account of the miss at Stoke was he did a good job getting into the position and was being ridden by the defender during contact...so hardly a sitter...

No...this is me...knowing that Eddie is a confidence player and by slagging him like most do...it does us all no good...get behind the guy...

He is constantly the victim of second hand accounts... the truth is he is a decent footballer with much better control than people give him credit for...he is finally starting to understand striker movement as he was clearly not up for that in the early stages at Fulham which is why he was sent on loan... TO IMPROVE...

Better off with Billy the Badger upfront. I said in 2008 after watching him fall all over the place and constantly live in an offside position, he will never score in the prem. Nearly 3 years later, I am still correct.

If he is so wonderful, why hasn't he got a new contract then?

Last season for him and thank the Good Lord for that. I am not a big fan of the Jari Litmanen school of Fulham unemployement benefit assistance.

In case you have missed it, Hughes has an empty dressing room at the moment Mr McScratch. Beggars can't be choosers you know.

2 goals on 30 appearances by a striker in the Championship would indicated to me he would do well in League Two or even better, go back to MLS so I can go and watch the bugger make a fool of himself against the NY Red Bulls. Now, that I would pay for.

It screams oMg EdDiE jOhNsOn Is MeH fAv PlAyEr.

Couldnt score in the championship, and while I do believe he will score in the Premiership, I think that is because he will be on the end of some hard work by the rest of the boys.

All EJ has is his pace, but when you get outpaced by Samba? Time to find a day job.

All EJ has is pace, blah, blah blah.... 12 goals for the US... 5 headers... only 2 on breakaways and the rest of the AJ poacher variety.... The kid scores goals in bunches when he is confident... perhaps if we tried to spread a little sunshine his way he will be confident...

Sorry mate but showing footage of EJ from over 4 years ago doesnt really mean that he can cut it in the prem.

Here are the teams he scored against:

El Salvador
Panama
Jamaica
Trinidad + Tobago
Honduras
Guatemala
Barbados

Argentina (Penalty)

Not exactly footballing luminaries eh?

Let us review that video.  A goal against El Salvador.  Three against Panama.  One vs. Jamaica.  One against Trinidad.  Another against Honduras.  Two against Guatemala (had to find out where they even are).  Another against Trinidad.  One against Argentina.  One against Barbados.

OK, well, they are not the greatest of opponents, are they?  Of that lot, I am impressed by the name Argentina the most and that was a penalty.

These are not Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, WGDT FC or even Bolton are they.  Really, he has a lot to prove and, speaking as one who watches a lot of Premiership football by actually going to the games, he is not near the quality required yet.

Anyway, even Marlet looked good on YouTube.

If he does the business, great.  I don't think he will.  Won't stop me cheering him in white, though.  I just fear for him.

All in the top 115 minus Barbados... And the penalty against the Argies...he earned himself after being taken down on a breakaway which should have been a red as well...

Trinidad, Jamaica, Honduras... all been to the WC and played respectable matches... I am sure England recall their escape from the same Trinidadian team EJ was scoring against on the clips... :024:

Not to mention that he has improved... I can dig up the Aris goals if you like that he scored this year... hardly poor goals he scored...

For fcuks sake I could score against that shite opposition in the concacaf.

12 goals (most close misses, most tap ins), all against rubbish sides like Honduras, Panama, fcucking El Salvador. One against Argentina, but it was a penalty.

Don't get me wrong, the USA are my 3rd national side to follow, besides Aus and Ghana, but really... Eddie Johnson has proven himself in ONE league. The MLS. If you can outrun the average american and see the ball amongst the NFL end zones then you will probably poach a few goals.

Don't come on here spouting your American crap about your players. You whinge about players being treated differently because they are American, when you do exactly that. You place him on a pedestal coz you saw him do a nice finish against the Denver Dreadhawks or the Albuquerque Aligators or whatever you are calling your teams these days.

The facts are, Eddie Johnson is being payed to score goals for Fulham, and the facts are, he isnt.

Please Eddie, prove Mccscratch right, we would all love for that to happen.

But the way Eddie has played for Fulham (and even Cardiff really), it doesn't look likely.

You say he needs confidence? What more is he getting? Zolly was the European Hero in our Europa run, and Hughes is showing faith in EJ instead. Thats all the confidence you need.

Plus I dont think Eddie would read this forum, he would probably see the thread about him, go to click on it, but miss and end up on a thread about sausages or something.

Maybe sunshine is actually the problem.

EJ's 12 goals for the US has come against: Panama 3, Guatemala 2, Trinidad and Tobacco 2, Barbados 1, Honduras 1, Jamaica 1, El Salvador 1 and Argentina 1 (in a 1-4 defeat).

Current FIFA world rankings for that impressive opposition: Panama 70, Guatemala 115, Trinidad and Tobacco 97, Barbados 121, Honduras 52, Jamaica 76, El Salvador 110, Argentina 5.

All places with plenty of sunshine, and not the lovely English climate,  but not much in terms football quality either. i.e. Tells me League two is a decent spot for him to aim. There are some players from some of those countries there.  He did well in Greece, and they have plenty of sunshine. It actually shines in the Aris as well there, hence his success.

PS.... the whole Prem is not Arsenal, Manure, the dark side etc.... lets concern ourselves with Wolves, Blackpool, Blackburn, Stoke etc... first and foremost..

And for the record... I have been to 10+ matches... ease up...

But all the sides you mentioned would destroy the Concacaf teams

Mate, Fulham could sign a 50 year old housewife from Southern Alabama and half these "fans" would jump to her defence and show old youtube videos of her 'ballhandling' skills just to prove a point.

Excuse me fella, no you have not.  You have come on here and ranted and raved at us all like some 12-year-old.  Really, accept that, to the majority, Eddie Johnson has a lot to prove.  'Cos he hasn't done it yet.  Not by a long chalk.

And, if you continue with the petty name-calling, I suspect that your time here will be short.

Think on.

Always amuses me when people slag CONCACAF teams when 2 of the 3 teams won or qualified from their groups and the other was not even remotely blown away by the group that contained the eventual WC winner...

...mccscratch, as ever, puts up a spirited defence of Eddie Johnson, in light of the repeated malicious, pernicious totally unjustified attacks that have become a daily occurence on Friends Of Fulham by ALL of us.

Just out of interest mccscratch, how much does Eddie pay you for being his agent?

Anyway, you have done a great job in getting loads of replies over an issue as important and relavent as a gnat breaking wind, congratulations, i predict this will run and run...

While I'm an Eddie Johnson supporter, I do believe Mr. McScratch went to nukes a little too early. A couple of thoughts here.

1. Hughes is giving him a chance. The previous manager did not. If Eddie fails to take advantage of his chance with Hughes, it'll be his fault and that'll be that. Last season he missed one chance against West Ham and was buried.

2. When England regularly plays qualifying internationals against Faroe Islands, Andorra, and Malta, it strikes me as interesting that they regulary denigrate CONCACAF. I'd love to see how much England would enjoy playing a MEANINGFUL QUALIFYING MATCH in Honduras, Mexico City, or -- especially El Salvador, not to mention how well they'll do.

3. There are several posters on this site and others who just flat do not like Eddie, and would not if he notched the winner on Saturday. These folks are entitled to their opinions, and shouting at them won't make them like Eddie more.

4. Yelling at people may get their attention, but it won't convince them of anything other than the fact that the yeller is a bit out of control.

5. Please remember that last August the two players considered MOST useless in the Fulham colors were Bobby Zamora and Zoltan Gera.

6. Mr. McScratch ... please relax, sir.
