Title: Brentford will want to spoil the party
Post by: Jimsbeerbelly on April 11, 2018, 09:29:00 PM
Not that there's any party to spoil, as per Jokanovic, I take every game as the next, and won't be partying unless we get promoted, but, Brentford will 100% be out to try and derail us.

As we witnessed against QPR, London derbys can be a lot different, passions, emotions run high, teams try that extra bit harder to please the fans.

All games of late are hard, but, this one worries me the most, as Brentford like to play a bit of football, they're in form, and can still make the playoffs.

We, on the other hand, still need to get 3 points out of this game regardless.

Just hope the boys come out and put them to the sword.

Not sure how they play, not seen their games. But I am hoping they play an open attacking style. We usually beat teams like that. The ones we struggle against are the high pressing physical teams.

If we keep doing what we're doing we'll win. The only way we don't win is a) we're complacent, which would be easy to do after such a long unbeaten streak, or b) we buckle under the pressure of leading the pack.

Slavisa has been doing all he can to reduce the pressure on the players and to keep them focused by just focusing one game at a time. I'm confident we'll win. Less confident about Millwall, they're a bit of an unknown quantity, but clearly have something about them as they're in the play off spots.

Think Brentford should be manageable. They are a bit lightweight and play a quick passing football from what I've seen this season. I don't think that we should be overly confident about any game though, we lost to Sunderland before going on our run, strange results are part of the league.

Milwall was a tough nut to crack at home, and they've only gotten better as the season has gone on. We could be in serious trouble there.

Brentford will probably be frightened of us. They will be going for the result but a draw might not be too bad for them. However they do need something from the game if they want a play off place.
I think we need to remain patient and then hopefully kill them off in the second half

Brentford and Millwall will both be very tough games. Both are trying to make the play offs and both London derbies so they'll be well up for the games, as QPR were.
The run we're on is incredible, especially considering it being this league where anyone can usually beat anyone. If we can keep it going to the end of the season, it will be absolutely amazing, but we're bound to have one or two slips and these next two games will definitely be hard.

Agree about Brentford and Millwall. Mind you playing sides who will be all but relegated when we play them also raises problems. They are not tense and and all playing for either contracts or to be put in the shop window. There are no easy sides in the Championship.

The easiest games are against mid table sides not fighting relegation or fighting for play off positions. Sheffield Wednesday I thought were going through the motions the other week against us.

I think if there were about 20 games to go and we were on this run, we would all be fairly confident about the Brentford game. I think we are just stronger than them and are far better when we last played them. The only problem I see is the situation getting to us.

Things are not going to go all our way. It's how we react that is key. If Cardiff have won on Saturday and we go a goal down, the crowd will be so important. If the Riverside starts moaning at stray passes etc, nerves could set in.

Whatever way you look at the Millwall game, it's a tough one. Honestly, I just cannot call it.

One little crumb. Us, Cardiff and Millwall have been on a fantastic run. In another thread, I stated that Cardiff had a run of fixtures that their bullying style suited. I pointed out that they had 3 tough games coming up. They've ended up taking 1 point from those 3 games.

Millwall have played just 1 top six side in their last 15 games. That nice run takes a distinctly tough turn. Sheff U away, then us, Boro & Villa.

We had our horror run of games in this run and we came through it. One could argue that Sunderland and Brum fighting for survival may be worse games.

Who knows?

I have developed this little bit of fear in my stomach that is following me around. I am both looking forward to Saturday and dreading at the same time?

The nearer we get to the target, the harder it becomes, in a funny kind of way. Seeing us in 2nd place in the table, it does now feel like ours to lose (whatever SJ may say), and wouldn't it be ever so Fulhamish to do just that. But then I've been fearing a dodgy result for weeks, and bar a couple of annoying draws (QPR and Bolton), the players have shown a winning spirit. Don't know how it will end, but I suspect it will come down to the last set of fixtures.

I'm both loving every minute and paralysed by nerves at the same time. But I know what when it's all over, the summer will feel endlessly long and dull.

I'm hoping Sunderland and Birmingham will be dead and buried by the time we play them - if they've still got a chance of staying up going into the last two weeks of the season, there's no doubt they'll be tough games too.

Well, it'll be a nail biting finish, whichever way it goes!

The great thing about our team at the moment is that we are so incredibly focused on the next game and not too far ahead, which stems from Jok and has been a key factor on our run.

The only real "wobble" we've had was against QPR and that was the game we needed to break our record for longest unbeaten run.

Regardless of who we play (that doesnt seem to matter), my main concerns would be the game to beat Man City's record of 22 games (if we get that far unbeaten) as media attention will be on that so I hope that doesn't cause us to lose our "one game at a time" focus that has worked so well; also the fact we are now the hunted based on sitting in 2nd currently (whether we have played a game more or not) - just hope the psychology of finally getting there doesn't change how we have been doing.

I am still hopeful we keep doing why were doing and of so, we cando no more than that. COYW

The easiest games are the ones we've played and hardest are the ones to come !!
Watched the Brentford v Cardiff game recently and thought how they were trying to play like us, however it was evident they didn't have the skill or confidence to carry this through.
So many wasted final balls and lost second balls.
Realistically we should win this easily, would like to see us score early and progress from there.
Could be a big one as they fancy themselves, (as the Rs did awhile back and ended 6-0!!), and look as they might come at us. 049:gif 049:gif 049:gif 049:gif

Against QPR we shot ourselves in the foot with Cairney giving away a needless freekick and Odoi trying to be too clever. We won't make that same mistake again, SJ will make sure of it.

I think we are right to be quietly confident. The table doesn't lie, we are the better team.  I just worry that some of the lads seem to be looking a bit leg weary. The first 20 mins against Reading was especially worrying, we can't afford to start like that again.

Leeds and Reading both played above themselves in the last two games at the Cottage and seemed to crowd out our strength and skill in the mid field. Brentford will have watched these games an I am expecting similar tactics from them.

It is going to be hard for us to win.

It is going to be hard for us to win.

But not impossible. They will set their stool out, and can look handy going forward, and they play better football than a lot of teams in this Division. Well organised and try and keep the ball on the ground.
But they do not play us every week. They caught us on a bad day at Griffin Park and credit to them.
However, unlike the time we played them then, we are a different kettle of fish, we are now a mean machine, keeping clean sheets on a regular basis, and we have a good habit of scoring in every game on this unbeaten run.
Also we are far better balanced since Target joined and Sess has moved further upfield. Betts is in goal, and they will not relish marking Mitro, ably supported by a fitter sharper Tom Cairney.
Not forgetting all our other players who are firing, Including Johanson and McDonald in what is one of the best midfields in the Division.
So although we may be showing caution in our observations over a decent Brentford team.
Think of the team Brentford will be facing, including our super subs bench.
So I feel that they have far more to worry about than Fulham have. ⚽️⚽️
