Title: Watching full game on Sky
Post by: Spirit of 2000 on December 08, 2018, 09:27:20 PM
First goal 100% Odoi fault... 2nd Odoi loses his man And Seri strolling around with no urgency to get back. 3rd goal Seri completely loses Mata and central defenders go AWOL. Schurrle has been awful, Sessegnon not much better. Anguissa utterly anonymous. Rico good though and Bryan looking decent. That's just first half.

Game of the day... much better 2nd half but Sess and Schurrle poor. Schurrle IMO either plays as a 10 or next to Mitro, he is too poor defensively to play in midfield  .. the sending off was an awful decision and Anguissa gets the ball

4th goal Rico at fault beaten at his near post although to be fair to him he kept us in the game before that and was generally a positive. Bryan good other than being beaten once too easily by Darlot. Mawson did ok I thought. Kamara bright and caused problems when he came on.

Rico should have done better with 1st, 2nd & 4th goals. The 3rd was passed wide left to a player a yard offside. The 2nd yellow for Zambo should never have been awarded. It was more of a foul by Rashford. My 97 YO mother could have tracked back quicker than Seri. For him to have played as a DM he is dreadful.

As I pour another coffee, I thought I would post a few more thoughts about the match that hasn't already been discussed. Agree with a great deal of discussion on the boards last night.

1. Rico goes for shots with his opposite arm. I picked this up a few weeks ago that when Rico dives to his right, he sometimes uses his left arm to save the shot. Evidenced yesterday by the free kick from Rashford. I am not a goalkeeping coach, but remember that Macdonald screamer against Millwall in the 3-0 last season and their keeper doing the exact same thing and not reaching a ball he should have done. If you look closely, I believe United's fourth goal was a result of Rico trying the same thing and being beaten as a result.

Resolution? Can hardly coach it out of him at this stage of his career or halfway through a season.. but one to watch.

2. Odoi in the first half could not let go of his CB responsibilities. He was playing very narrow and defending like a third CB.. covering Ream's position and not defending the space that was opening up frequently on the wing. I think it contributed to the first goal especially as he gave up ground to Young and let him come into the box easier. Second half you could see he was sticking to his position a lot more and offering far less room for their wingers to operate.

Resolution? I know he got some time at the end of Leicester at RB, but trialling him there at United for effectively the first time was very high risk. There were some glimpses of why I wanted him at RB all season eg shepherding the ball out of play from Rashford etc numerous times, advancing runs up field. I think he's a capable RB and given more games could get even better .. but I think our league position means we will revert to the tried and tested Christie (who has also done well of late).

3. Sess was being out-paced by their young right back all game and getting no joy at all. We kept trying to pass in behind but their full back had it under control.

Resolution? I would have brought AK on that wing for the rest of the game. Moved Sess over to the right and see if he had more luck that side. I know the wingers switch sides for 5 mins or so each half but it wasn't long enough to see the benefits.

Just a few extra thoughts as you all settle into the morning papers.

Nothing to worry about..third game in the week and few players who settled in recent games was unaviable...After this game, chambers cemented his place as dm becouse obvious Anguisa is not player for premiere ligue...without him serri looks like 15yo kid who picked by elders to take them water and towels...Shuirle again had very bad game...so it was normal that Mitro was replaced in half to avoid yellow card
I think Rannieri will not pick this team ever again...Ream also played like championship player..We have maybe 12,13 players who had really play some game..others are not quality for this stage

Every goal we concede can be put down to some error by somebody. I would have kept the back 4 as it was and concentrated on filling the gap made by the injury to Chambers. Seems to be every time we change the team by more than a couple of players we freeze and look confused and directionless. But we can have a go at any of the players in the first half. They always look confused.

Second half, up to the cheating referee sending off our equally poor player for the only decent tackle he did all game. We looked better and the tactics were right.
