Title: Right back for Saturday
Post by: filham on March 27, 2019, 07:42:25 PM
What a selection problem Parker has against City for the right back spot, you can be sure City are aware of our weakness in that position and will be playing on it from the start.

Mensah, Christie and Odoi have all been tried without success , so who will Parker go for.

Christie or Odoi as they're here next year.

Simple.

I'd probably go Christie as I think he should get 8 games to prove he's good enough to be first team next year.

Steven Sess for me with the option to use Odoi in a CB role.  I'd like to see the two Sess twins start together, why not it might be good for their confidence.

In the PL things haven't gone well for them but the championship is a different ball game. TFM won't be here next season. I think Christie and Bryan will be very good at RB/LB for us next season. Blood Steven Sess during the season when Christie needs a rest. Plenty of chances for him to get lots of game time given the schedule in the Championship. Don't think Man City at home is the right time to try and blood new, young talent.

It's lucky City don't have much quality in that forward left area...

According to their Whoscored Stats this year, Christie and Odoi are performing at a level that they are good enough for automatic promotion in a Championship Winning Team, but not good enough for the premier league to prevent relegation. In fact of the new players from the Summer Transfer Window only TFM performance indicates he would struggle in the Championship.

The truth is "FFC paid Mid-Table Premier League Prices and bought Top Championship Players that can add to what we had before", we shouldn't panic but use them to get promoted and then strengthen next time if we get promoted into the premier league.

Since neither Christie nor TMF have shown the pace needed for successfully covering the RB slot I'd also go for S. Sessegnon to have a chance.  However, SP still has his eyes on survival, why wouldn't he, and so he may come up with a viable alternative solution after a couple of weeks with his non-international players.  This has to be down to how you cover counters from breakdowns in possession which either focus on positional play or pace, or better still, both options.  Will he opt for a more defensive line up or go for broke?

Parker will quite rightly not pick untried youngsters against City where we are likely to be hammered and destroy their confidence. He may well pick some in the remaining games especially at home.

I don't understand the Steven Sess hype. He is a good talent and can hopefully help us next season. Maybe he can convince his brother to stay with us for another year, who knows. But if I'm not mistaken S Sess has yet to play a meaningful game of senior football, not counting the PL2 and a couple of early round cup appearances. He should've been sent on loan to a Championship side this season. It's mind boggling that some in here want S Sess to start a PL game for us, let alone against Man City, when he has yet to feature at Championship or even L1 level.

Save Steve Sess for the Cardiff game when we are absolutely sure of relegation and then lets hope he puts in a top performance to make him an option for next season.

We are down. See how he copes. All other other names have not looked up to it.   092.gif

This sounds like the Magath way of thinking. I am not a big fan of destroying the youngsters confidence as fast as possible, which is what I'm afraid that a first start against Man City could accomplish. Sure, a really good performance could boost them instead but I find that very unlikely in this particular game. When we are playing less tough opposition (and are also confirmed for relegation) I am all for giving a few youngsters a chance if SP deem them ready. A time and a place and all that...

Mensah had a stinker against them in the cup, but last week in the paper he was recorded as the fastest player in the Prem. So give him a go as we need some pace also thought he did Ok against Liverpool.

Christie for the City game but hopefully Steven Sess for a home match against one of our lesser opponents.

why, it makes zero sense to play him anymore. Doesn't benefit us in the slightest

How would that prove that he isn't good enough to play in the Championship next season?

The pictures of training on the website showed Marlon Fossey back - can't say I would be that shocked to see him on the right and S.Sessegnon at Centre Back!

I don't like to overuse words such as "shocked", but I would be very surprised if SP decided to throw in two extremely unproven youngsters against one (if not the) best attacking team(s) in the world. Seems like the completely wrong game to do this. In my opinion.

TFM had a good game against Liverpool, so not sure why he wouldn't start. Think it's between he and Christie though.
