Title: Another sleepy first half costs us at home
Post by: Slaphead in Qatar on December 07, 2019, 05:16:48 PM
Why do we need a rollicking at half time before we start playing well.

And abou should have kept his place - why bring knock back in.

And is there no alternative to onomah?

First half was walking football with the exception of SJ.  There are alternatives to Onomah and Parker needs to start using them.

Totally agree. The introduction of AK and Kebano earlier could have made all the difference.

Nothing to do with being a sleepy first half.
Team selection cost us dear today with not starting AK, add to that crap slow, oh so slow pass from the back tactics and awful defending and all roads lead to the managers door.

I wasn't there but listened intently.  GJ said as early as 12 minutes in, "Cairney dabbled on a ball, got dispossesd and was luckily to get away with it.  Had it been last season, 1-0 down."  Same will happen next season if we go up.  Light years away from Prem quality - not just Tom, most of them.

Harsh, but so true.

We are certainly light years away from Prem quality.  Would rather stay in the Championship than get promoted and be as humiliated as we were in our last Prem "campaign ". Who wants to see their team get battered week in and week out?

Too many of the team not at the races today until the final 10 minutes of play.
Four things I noted today:
Nathan Baker & particularly Ashley Williams - outstanding performance today from Bristol's CBs. Nearly every one of our crosses seemed directed to them. They both appeared to relish defending & on my opinion were the significant difference today.
What has suddenly happened to our midfield options? Last few games we have had an excellent bench with which to change things. No Arter, Decordova-Reid, McDonald or Reed? Whilst Scotty is open to criticism for making the substitutions too late our bench was limited compared to that for the last few games!
Substitutions made far too late. Despite our possession we were not hurting them until we introduced two lacy players
Is Bryan injured - he was awfully getting back defensively when Bristol regained possession not aided by a lack of support from Knockaert or Cavaleiro on quite a few occasions! Seems to a problem with all our FBs with the honourable exception of Odoi.

Can only assume that Arter. Reed. and Reid were not yet fit enough to play.

Its tempo again, and we missed AK, REID, even Kebano or some youngsters with speed.

Absolutely agree that team selection was wrong.  Kamara should have started and Parker should have looked at central midfield and thought many times more than he did about starting with Onomah who has, IMO, yet to find whatever feet he has.  I would have gone with McDonald in the holding midfield position because he knows Johansen's and Cairney's games inside out.  Possession only works when you move the opposition about and that requires players to have a go at beating opponents as Ream and Odoi have shown can be done with fairly low risk.  Both BC's goals came from players losing concentration at crucial moments and we were fortunate at other times especially with TC spilling the ball on a handful of occasions with far too casual passes.  The tempo issue is being caused by players not concentrating on the art of knowing how to open play up by always having more than one option to pass.  We managed that under Jokanovic but this current team is really erratic.
