For better or for worse, who is a player you were wrong about? It doesnt have to be Fulham, Im just curious as to see what player people were wrong about good or bad.
A lot at Fulham we're wrong about Baird. But he got his head down and in the end they were chanting his name. "We've got Bairdinio"
Paul Peschisolido. Thought he was a journeyman who went from club to club.
Negatively
Steve Marlet
Danny Cadamarteri
Alfie Mawson (so far)
Positively
Geoff Horsefield
Carlos Salcido
Sone Aluko
Surprised onomah doesn't get a good few mentions. Rarely have I seen a new young player get so much abuse as he did.
For me it was Zamora, I was shocked how good he was that Europe year.
Outside of Fulham - Cristiano Ronaldo
Thought he was just all step overs with little end product and would just be a gimmicky type player.
Fulham previous - Steve Marlet
Kept hoping he would blow up for us as he kept scoring in a great french team...
Fulham now - Odoi
This is a stretch but i used to rip in to him to my dad, and now I quite like him.
Having watched Eddie Lewis play for the US National team, I thought he'd bring something to Fulham. Boy was I wrong.
I thought Mitro would be ok but really thought he was just a post up type of guy. I never thought he'd be as good as he turned out, especially on the defensive end.
I expected Felix to be a hell of a manager and to keep us from the drop as he had done in Germany. I also thought my first wife was there for the long haul.
Boy was I wrong on both counts. 6'7" rt backs? :022:
I was wrong about Steve Mcnanamie in the 90s, I thought he was a poor signing but I could not have been more wrong, he was a terrible signing.
To sign him was the worst decision since Abraham Lincoln said, I am fed up kicking around the house, let's go take in a show.
Jeff Hopkins
Salah, we all know what happened there.
But not wrong about - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Bogarde
Zoltan Gera - He looked so far out of his depth for a while - but turned into a legend...
Amorebieta - I thought he'd be really good...
Recently Seri - I thought he would be perfect for developing Slav's style of play especially after his goal v Burnley.
Going back further MacDonald as manager, I thought he'd be a disaster.
Shows I know nothing
Gera. At first I thought he was rubbish. He went on to become a Fulham legend.
The usual: Slated Baird, Zamora and Onomah after poor starts.
But on the other hand I though Franck Queudrue, Fredrik Stoor, Amorebieta, Sigurdsson and Seri would be great before they kicked a ball.
In the present squad, AK. I didn't rate his first touch and thought he lacked balance.
Previously, Zamora. In his first season he frustrated the hell out of me, always tried to lay it off, never took responsibility for shooting.
Ohnamah has turned it around for me .I didnt give him a chance after his first few months .
Also thought sigurdsson the centre half not sure of spelling would have done better
Ohnamah, could not believe he was in the team, however the last matches since lockdown he was soooooo good!
Think Fulham have found a Grealish..( who does not dive.)
Johnny Haynes - Plainly too small for the first team :005:

McAnespie?
I remember his first game. He and another player had been signed by Keegan that week and just thrown into the team. They'd obviously hardly trained together if at all and McAnespie kept doing overlaps while the ball went elsewhere. He was offering himself for the pass but the crowd really got on his back and if his confidence was shot after that I'd not be surprised. He was scarcely seen again. I felt he never had a chance.
Most disappointing player? David Carlton "The new Haynes".
Actually I'll add another: Carlos Salcido. I watched him in the World Cup and thought what a player if only we could sign him. And then we did and he was utterly useless.

Oh yes Sigurdsson the International centre back who had been responsible for the defeat of England, expectations were so high.
Baird , awful in that first game at Arsenal and for a while after. Got his nose to the grindstone and turned into a fans favourite.
Berbatov, arrived with a world class reputation but after a couple of seasons glad to see the back of him.
Jim Stanard Initially thought he was not a top keeper but he soon became a firm favourite.

That's it Macanespie, after his debut he was never seen again this side of the equator.
David Carlton yes it was a disappointment I was also convinced he would progress into a decent player at least, but for some reason it never happened.
Gerard Piqué : I've always thought of him as one of the world's greatest defenders and still the top rated La Liga centre back.
Having read some of the expert opinion on here I am obviously totally mistaken.

I just thought that Macanespie was trying to impress getting into good positions but no-one read it.
Disappointment Ian Selley who had a career-ending injury before he could really show what he could do.
And do you remember Leon Mackenzie? I thought he'd really make it but he just disappeared.

hahaha
For me Seri and Schurrle in recent memory
Alan Warboys came to mind i remembered that he came with a great goal scoring reputation for Bristol Rovers, along with striking partner Bruce Bannister - they were known as Smash and Grab, that helped them get promotion from D3, but failed to live up to expectations when when he came to us, and left after a season.
Looking on Google, I found this, from an interview with him, that might be of interest to Fulham fans
"Our partnership was so successful that it was obvious when, in 1976-77, it started to dip. That's when they off-loaded us. I 'd started to slow down a bit . Fulham had George Best, Bobby Moore, Rodney Marsh and Peter Storey, so I jumped at the chance. All they wanted was a big fella up front to take the knocks. Bestie used to train in the afternoons instead of mornings so I'd stay behind just to watch . You've never seen a rush like when we played five-a-sides: everyone wanted to be on his team."

Johnny Haynes - Plainly too small for the first team :005:
And Sloooowwww
Geoff Horsfield
Voltz
Sidwell
Knockeart. Was expecting a swashbuckling Cavalier, turned out he's a bit of a Roundhead. Runs around a lot for seventy minutes wearing himself and the opposition out, setting it all up nicely for someone else to finish them off. The merits of this have grown on me in recent weeks - whilst the Roundheads lacked flamboyance they were basically in the right and victorious - but he's a lot duller to watch than I expected based on his performances for visiting teams.
Is he a mix of cavalier and roundhead?
He certainly has flamboyant aspects to his game , even if they don't always come off, and can lead to accusations of not being a team player, but, unlike some of our fairly recent signings, he's prepared to run back and tackle, and help out in defence.
I agree that he hasn't shown the form we expect maybe, but certainly always puts in a good effort - as you say.
Kebano
Micky Conroy. I complained about him quite a lot during 95/96 season. And probably not at all during 96/97.
Interesting to see Steve McAnespie mentioned. He had a shocker on his debut and carried that into every subsequent appearance.
Too many to count. Worst offense probably Duff, thought he was well past it before coming to us.

Yes. but that was for the first five minutes of his first game. After that we all realized that he was extra special.
Well I rated Parick Roberts as possibly our best prospect since Haynes.
Actually I still do rate him just can't understand why he is not playing regularly for top club.

I confess to slating him (honestly not my usual thing) after watching him at Swansea. I said we played with 10 men etc & he looked clueless. Never have I been happier to have been wrong and to apologise sincerely
Carlos Salceido, the Mexican LB... was telling my mate how good he was after watching him play in the early games. Then my mate came to watch a game. Salceido was dog s#!t and stayed like that for the rest of his stay. Got and still get grief from my mate when I talk about good players.
Dan Burn...saw him make his debut and thought he could make it in whatever league. Saw him not progressing, and being hoodwinked by pacey attackers, so happy when he left for Division 1 football. Gob smacked when Premier league Brighton signed him and assumed he would be a minor cog in their first team squad. Very happy to be proved wrong as he's an integral part of their miserly defence...well done Dan, glad I was proved wrong !
Fotheringham
I thought he would be c@p
He was 10 times worse than that

If they would have just played Burn in his natural right back position, all would have been well. :005:
Magath first spotted his talent!
Better than I thought:
AAron Hughes. Thought he was weakish, often caught under the ball and no great shakes in the air. Whilst there's a bit of truth in all of these his many strengths and partnership with Brede more than compensated. I was wrong.
Onomah. Not quite sure where his ceiling is but it's definitely better than I thought.
Worse than I thought:
Seri. seemed like pure class till I realised he made Lee Clarke look quick.
Andy Johnson. Shadow of the player I'd seen play for Palace against us.
I thought Johnson was good - when he played, but he was too often injured.
Obviously hoped for the best re Seri and Anguissa, and Seri began well, with that stunning goal.
I also thought Ruiz wold come good, before finally accepting that he just wasn't up to the Prem, though he did a bit better in the Championship maybe.

Is best could be yet to come? He only has to outperform Schurrle, Sessegnon and Vietto in the premier league on the right to be worth his investment. He is has a combined low benchmark of 5 goals and 6 assists to compete against.

I had serious doubts about Tigana and his lack of experience in English football. When we won our first eleven matches I began to think that I may have been wrong about him.
Chris Baird.
Literally from what I thought was one of the worst players in the squad. To a hero.
