Title: Antonee Robinson...
Post by: AnOldBrownie on August 19, 2020, 07:47:05 AM
Hope this gets over the line.

Like what I see (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYYgbC3z8so).

Wish he could play on the right...but a good footballer helps our squad regardless of where he plays.

Come on physical.

I can see signing Robinson starting a left back merry go round with Bryan going to Leicester and Chilwell to Chelsea.

I can't see him being a bench warmer for Fulham if we are going to be paying him a reportedly 50K per week.

Not sure he's an upgrade on Bryan but if Bryan wants to leave he could be a good replacement but a bit of a gamble in my opinion.

As long as Bryan stays then I'm a bit neutral on this. If he signs then fine but not a position we desperately need more cover for.

We need cover for Bryan. If Bryan is injured our options are limited. I don't believe he's going to be on 50k a week. That's a huge jump for someone who's largely untested and would I assume put him wrecklessly near the top earners in the club which A) wouldn't be healthy for squad dynamics and b) for any future negotiations. Needs to earn him salary whilst in Fulham colours.

I am a fan of this signing, the LB position desperately needed some competition. And the only cover for LB is Le Marchand and Odoi so if Bryan picked up an injury there'd be trouble.

Also interesting how the opinions of Bryan has changed since the final. He was slated for being unable to defend most of the season.

We have had plenty of opportunities to see Ream & MLM play at LB, say no more.
I like Odoi and he can do a job there in an emergency but I really don't see him as a strong 2nd choice PL LB.
Steven Sess can't hold down a place at his preferred RB let alone on the left
I'm not aware of any youngsters even close t playing PL football at LB.

We don't know if Bryans head has been turned but having 2 decent LB's is good thing.

In the Premier League it is a necessity to have two decent players in each position, not only to survive but to create competition for places which can only be healthy. Plus if he signs for Fulham he cannot play for anyone else against us, and the fact that he has been playing in the English League will also be a positive.

We aiready have cover for every position, what we need right now is one or two signings that are clear improvements on existing players  in order to raise the team up to Premier league standard.
The signing of Robinson is not helping in that respect.
Of course the  priority is to sign Reed in order just to maintain last season's level.

Robinson impressed greatly in the match at the Cottage, very, very fast and when Wigan chased the match in the second half none of our team could keep pace with him
However is my memory playing tricks or in the late part of the match did he end up on the right wing where he gave our defence a torrid time?
Makes me wonder if he can cover the RB / RWB position as well

If those reports of a medical were true and assuming he passed the medical , shouldn't he not be signing any moment now.

Glad he plays on the left....we need a proper defender at LB this time round in the Prem. As much as there is a lot of love for Joe Bryan at the moment he will cost more goals than he creates in the premier league. Would be happy to see JB play Left midfield which would hopefully tighten us up down the left this time around.

They will do extra checks, just to make sure his 'heart rhythm issues' are sorted. I had similar issue my heart, it was playing 'London Calling' by The Clash, not great when your on The Underground, everyone looks at you.

Joe Bryan is a top left side utility player, he has played some positions more than others but his statistics indicate he is equally good at LB, LWB, DM, LM, AML, and LW, but cannot play CB. Depending on who is injured, out of form or changing positions, if we have a LB we will need Bryan in one of the other positions most matches anyway.

The stats show that he has barely ever played DM, even if we count the few times he has played as a central midfielder (not specifically as a DM). Thus, to infer from any available stats that he can do that (play as a DM in the Premier League) equally good as his more preferred positions is such an enormous leap so that I am not sure what to think of it. Bryan is a left sided player that can operate both in defence as well as further up the pitch. That's the only reasonable conclusion if you want to draw any from the stats available. I can of course not say that he could not also play as a DM, but there is no decent stats at all to back it up. In my opinion.

English which has to be the common language of the team.

With as rich a history as Milton Keynes has you'd be foolish to think that there isn't at least one in each former colony.

The name, Milton Keynes, doesn't come, as some people think, from a combination of the names of the poet John Milton and the economist Maynard Keynes. That's me corrected.

Antonee looks comfortable playing the ball with both feet which is a huge asset for a FB. Technically looks very good whenever I see him play - if he can position / defend at PL level then we could have a real player on our hands.

S. Sess has the same ability so hoping he can progress and eradicate the schoolboy mistakes he makes (optimistically putting that down to youth / inexperience). If both develop and are given time (a precious commodity / luxury in the PL sadly) - then we may have a couple of very good, valuable FBs for the future.

Bocanegra was brilliant. Would love to have an in his prime Boca back to slot alongside Hector. McBride would be a good player to bring on in the second half, chase down and tire the opposition defence.

Dempsey would not really fit in with Parker ball as he wasn't willing to defend and takes a million shots a game, great player but just not a fit for this system.
