Title: Watford
Post by: shepperton white on September 14, 2020, 06:32:37 PM
manager Ivic has stated that he is having a problem keeping Troy Deeney, how about him as a second striker along side Mitro.  Maybe you think he's too much like Mitro to be a good fit,

Your thoughts/opinions

Him and josh king to boost our attacking options, even if just for this season, would be a huge boost to us and our survival hopes.

I want our back up striker to be a quick one, who can provide something different to Mtiro and possibly play one of the wing roles

Deeney would basically offer the same as Mitro

Deeney is my actual nightmare. We're trying to build a young progressive squad, and I think someone like Deeney ruins with his aggressive tendencies and his lack of ability to run (which is surprisingly important for footballers!)

Personally think his everything we need. Won't get bullied by defenders and I don't see any reason why you could not play two up top in certain games. Even at his age his no slouch.
We can't afford performances like last one where opposition defence were not even questioned let alone tackled. A little bit of a nasty streak wouldn't do us any harm.

Deeney is a good player, has a decent scoring record but more importantly, has experience of a fight. He also pops up with important goals.

If we're giving Watford money, I want it to be for Sarr not Deeney.

Deeney and Mitro would certainly bother defenses which would be good to see.

Would take Dawson & Deeney in a heartbeat - both natural vocal leaders and demand the people around them to work hard.

Just what we need.

Deulofeu would be an improvement on every winger in our squad too.

100% this. There is no point in looking for a like-for-like with Mitro, as they will only play 8 games or so either in the cup or when Mitro is suspended/injured. Pointless. What we need is someone that can do that but also play LW/RW as required when Mitro is fit and firing.

You won't convince a striker better than the reserves we have (AK and BDR) to come and sit on the bench for 85-90% (rough estimate if Mitro doesn't get any serious injuries) of the time. Nor would it be a good use of wages resources.

Mitrovic is a Deeney upgrade - so no.
However Dawson- that is another matter. Experienced EPL centre back (over 180 EPL games & 14 goals) who I cannot recall as being particularly error prone. His age, 30, counts against him and I cannot recall him being particularly mobile and probably has passed his best years.
But he is what I would describe as a Roy Hodgson style player and would strengthen the squad. Not an exciting signing but could be a defining one if went well. I still think Hector is our best CB but he is not EPL experienced so an experienced old head alongside him is not the worst idea.
We do require urgent strengthening this season in our CBs so would get my vote for what it is worth.

Good point about Deulofeu - had forgotten he is still with Watford.
Could well be the star addition, although currently we have a long list of wingers in our team already!
A very different style of forward to Mitro, more pace but less physicality,  so could offer a valid Plan B against EPL defences.

Parker must know what type of striker he wants, it would be interesting to see who is on the short list. Somehow I think there will be younger and faster players ahead of Deeney. However come deadline day we will be grateful to grab someone from whoever is still available no doubt.

Totally agree with this -Hector is good but would get better playing along someone like Dawson. Age matters but we cannot afford to become a slave to dogma. We need experience and we need it now

a strike force of deeney and mitro, even though the two are similar - that would terrify every single centre half pairing in the league and give this team some fear factor it needs from the top. We also need a genuine pace on the flanks and a very physical centre half

Would love to see us get Deulofeu or Sarr if we are looking at Watford players

That is true but would terrifying the centre backs get us the goals. I do agree though that it is worth a try but would think we could have come close to it already with Mitro and Kamara up top.
