Listening to the debate around Mitrovic I agree that we definitely shouldnt sell him in january. But I do feel that the reason he isnt getting into the team has mainly to do with the nature of the Premier League . Bottom half of the table sides cant play slow football ,controlling the ball ,and get lots of crosses into the box for a big man in the box. No team in the league currently plays this way. Dont say Burnley because they may well prove my point by going down. They also dont set out to control possession.
Our performances against Liverpool and Leicester would not and could not have been achieved with Mitro in the team. Why-Â because he cant participate in the high energy aggressive press which made even Liverpool struggle at times. If we play deep with Mitro then we cant get in behind ,or are more limited in this regard.
So the conundrum with Mitro ( and even more so if TC plays as well ) is that we may lose plenty of our recent defensive stabilty by not playing with a low defensive line, because if we do then we have no threat on the counter. The Liverpool set up and tactics really tested the champions ,and completely disagree with the idea that in some of the recent performances we have been playing for draws.
By having Mitro or Tc in the team ( or both) then we set out to play in a certain way - with attacks being built primarily from what happens in the opponents final third. Parker has clearly seen that we are not good enough to play this way against most teams in the division and has started leaning towards a more mobile, pacey ,fluid set-up with quick players who can deliver offensive press and second ball dominance. As Benitiz , before Parker ,clearly felt ,there was no place for a player like Mitrovic in this type of system (although he could be used off the bench to change games ).
Or, as GJ would say: "Wukkim".
