Being in the bottom three makes judging and criticising players a natural part of being a football supporter. We all love a fighter , a never say die type of player ,who runs and runs. The type of players who fights for every ball. The one that has has a good engine and doesnt know when hes beaten, and never takes unecessary risks. These are all admirable qualities and those players are a vital part of any successful side.
If we had a team of players like that we would however have a number of huge weaknesses. Other types of players are needed as well. The ones that show another type of bravery. The ones that dare to attempt to be constructive and try to find a pass when under pressure when it would be alot easier just to lump the ball forward. Players that want the ball and dare to hold on to it ,to take a man on to drive into space in order the commit opposition players, opening space for others. The players that have a cool head and can finish in a one on one with the goalkeeper ,looking like they dont care. Lookman displayed this quality for our goal last night and didnt celebrate much when he scored ,his body language not so much reflecting that he didnt care but more that he was still in that ice cool zone.
Anguissa coolness in possession can ,and often is ,also confused with lack of interest or comitment when he is actually being brave enough to get hold of the ball and try to make things happen. We are unforgiving much of the time to the cool headed player who fails to achieve that shot on goal or killer pass, whilst we can easily forgive the fighter when he hoofs the ball over the bar from a decent position,or lumps the ball forward because he doesnt have the confidence (or bravery) to hold on to the ball, for fear of making a mistake.
If we judge Loftus Cheek by using the criteria that we used to hold the fighter type of player in high esteem, we are likely to think he is nonchalant, lazy and doesnt really care. He is the sort of player that causes a huge amount of frustration . He has it all there but seems to fail at producing the goods ,failing to find the back of the net or make that assist. When we play the ball up to Loftus Cheek ,however much pressure he is under, he continually and mostly successfully manages to turn with the ball and drive forward, however much physical pressure he is under. He is also starting to fight in his own way.I still think he will come good.
Sunday Times report described him as "promised much....but sufferedfrom hesitancy"
Would definitely agree with that. But yesterday he showed alot of fight in his individual duels which i havent seen befor to that extent
I have noticed that RLC is attracting a lot of fouls, he is worrying the opposition .

A good morning-after post.
Interesting the different points of view about Anguissa. If you judge him witht the same criteria that you would use on a fighter/worker type players in another post then ........
