Not sure if this has already been posted.  Another promising 16 year old on the books.

Tall lad for someone so young, I would like to see some of the 1st team do some of these challenges.

They probably know already, just watching to see if he comes good and then pinch him just before he can sign a contract. They will probably offer at least 2 weeks wages of their top player in compensation.

The "big teams" are probably already talking to his parents about fees and houses and cars.

I look forward to seeing him play well in the U18's and then U23's and then just as contract about to end get 10 mins in a first team game in april and sign an extension after being told he could be part of plans for next season and then get shipped out on loan to Colchester where reports are not great, he comes back and then off to plymouth for a season.
Now 23  and not having had a sniff of a first team game since those 10 mins hes let go as yet another one who didnt work out.

And repeat for the next one.

Are things that bad with our academy players MJG?

I admit I don't follow the U18 and U23 teams that close, but I was unpleasantly surprised with how few minutes we gave to our youngsters last year in the Championship, especially O'Riley that was well thought of. Even this year, we had the chance to involve some youngsters more but it's always better to have 5-6 defenders on the bench that you never use.

U18 Premier League champions two seasons running with a possible third coming up unless we drop points and are runners up.
These brilliant results have not been converted into U23 league positions let alone first team appearances.
I put it down to the pressure of the promotion/relegation situations that we have been in for the past four years which did not encourage experimentation and taking chances with youngsters. Steven Sessignon came in too soon and has taken time before settling with Bristol City but most of our present U23 team will never make the grade and will end up in lower league teams at best. There are the two or three that must come in to the first team squad next season.

We really need a couple of home grown youngsters to break into the first team, it would make a lot of us happy.

I'm wondering at what point the "kid's" are integrated into the first team..... shouldn't they all be involved with the first team at least once a week

Carvalho has been with the first team for some time and has frequently appeared in the training photos. I cannot understand why he is not included on the bench at least for the first team. 092.gif

Villa started today with 19-year-old Ramsey, who before this year had only played 7 games with Doncaster at League 1 last year, and substituted him at half-time with Davis, who came up from their U18 team years ago and is a squad player now. This, while more expensive players like Barkley and El Ghazi were on the bench.

On the other hand, we can't even find a place on the bench for a midfielder/attacking player from the U23 and we prefer to have 5-6 defenders on it like there is a chance we will need all of them. Would it have made much difference if in a game or two we had started one of Carvalho, Francois, Davis in place of RLC? Only mentioning RLC because he is a Chelsea loan similar to Barkley at Aston Villa.
