Title: Champions League Final
Post by: grandad on May 29, 2021, 12:54:12 PM
It is criminal that it is to be televised on BT Sport. A game of this magnitude should be able to be viewed by everyone. Although I do subscribe to Sky, not only for the sport, I refuse to pay the rip off prices for BT Sport & Amazon. Both these provide poor quality & have a comparatively small audience compared to Sky, ITV & the BBC.

Apparently you can stream it on YouTube mate. Though I hear the quality isn't great, which is probably an intentional ploy to get more people to subscribe, whilst still being able to virtue signal about it being made available for 'everyone'

It's free on YouTube and the quality was excellent for the Europa League final so I expect it to be the same

I won´t be streaming it either. I have had too many laptops trashed by using them. Anyway my current firewall & other security measures won´t allow me to stream.

I find YouTube is the best quality streaming video app / site out there, unlike the BT Sports or even iPlayer which can run slowly or be glitchy.... YouTube is just very well optimized.

Agree in a way though, it should be available on a Freeview Channel at least, which I think BT or Sky have done in the past.

Just did my free £5 bet on City to win in 90 mins and more than 2.5 goals... I think they will hammer Chelsea. By far my two least favourite teams, but looks like I just dislike Chelsea more...

Chelsea 1-0. Pace of the game is frightening. Like watching a different sport. Think they'll go on to win the game now.

It's been a great game so far. Mounts improvement this season has been incredible. Pep tried to get too cute with his team selection, got it all wrong. They need a striker and a DM on. Much more fun to watch than the EL debacle the other night

Pace wins games. Fulham take note

I really don't like either team, but I would be happy if he won and got the plaudits.

Maybe if we focus on our own club, rather than tearing down 2 teams who have had a really good day, we have more than enough problems. Fair play to Brentford and Chelsea. Both had great seasons. Shows what a good manager can do if nothing else.

I personally don't care about other teams. I started following the team the season before the 3rd division promotion campaign. I feel no animosity to any team (bar Gillingham)

I congratulated my Uncle whos been going to Brentford for 60+ years but really wasn't bothered who won.  Fair play to the decent fans of these clubs though. Maybe I'm still suffering from the hangover from our sh1tfest of a season.

I watch the second half and found it entertaining, but I thought I was watching a Series A match. The diving and screaming were a tad excessive. That got me to thinking so I ran a quick review of the line ups and of the 28 players who took part, only 7 were English. 14 countries were represented. This was more  a world match than and "all England" final. Or could it be that there is no need to form a European league since there is already one named the Premiership?

I mean most teams are heavily multicultural now. Real Madrid has ZERO players in the Spanish Euro team. That's the modern world. Mount was the first English player since 2008 to register an assist in the final of the competition. Since then we've had 6 teams in finals

It's not been the best of days for us lot, but fair play to both sides that have won today. This Chelsea side is....likeable in comparison to the previous levels of utter filth that they have produced.

And no, this doesn't mean that I want to support them, or buy their shirts etc etc.

I agree.

I didn't want Ch***ea or Brentford to win either. It's called rivalry. I know where to draw the line, however. And from what I've read, so do those others who have commented on this thread.

On the other hand, on a daily basis, people on here express their dislike of either Parker or T.K. or both - or RLC or Cavaleiro or Mitrovic for that matter - sometimes in language far more disparaging - spiteful even - than anything that has appeared on these few pages.

Completely agree with this.  I wanted Chelsea to win for my Chelsea supporting cousin who went to Porto for the match.  I wanted Swansea to win as I have stated on other threads, as they were playing Brentford.

Don't like City or Chelsea, so wasn't that bothered who won, had no interest in the game.

They are both very wealthy clubs, and that is  the reason for their continuing success, and both teams have owners whose wealth comes from morally questionable sources - except noone ever seems to question it, certainly not their fans.

As for Brentford. Well not coming from West London, I'd be hard to find it on the map, though have visited their ground several times to see Fulham play.
I am jealous of them, but can see they are deserving of respect, and have come close in the play-offs so many times, so you can't say they don't deserve it.

How well will they do in the Prem?
Have to admit that I want them to fail, but would have to give them  grudging respect if they  survive in the Prem.
But, if they can do it, surely Fulham should be able to do at least as well, whereas we can't really compare ourselves to Chelsea or City, with their wealth.

Though i remember going to Chelsea with mates every other week in the 60's, and we didn't have much animosity towards them, and some supported both teams, though i never liked the impersonal nature of the 'dog track' ,with heavy stewarding  for us kids trying to get autographs, and   don't think i could have ever supported them.

But the animosity, verging on hatred didn't  really exist in the 60's, more like friendly rivalry, except in Glasgow perhaps, where there's always been the toxic  sectarian rivalry, that comes from deeper historical and social reasons outside of football.

But now the rivalry between  many English clubs, once seen as grudgingly respectful, often seems to verge on  hatred, though not really much  rational reason for it.
But this reflects  modern society, i suppose, with so much  division and  hatred publicly expressed  over many things, without much rational basis.
