Title: MLM joins Strasbourg
Post by: Pluto on August 26, 2021, 09:47:01 PM
Le Marchand deal confirmed on the official: https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2021/august/Le-Marchand-Joins-Strasbourg

The Club can confirm that Maxime Le Marchand has joined RC Strasbourg for an undisclosed fee.

The defender joined Fulham from OGC Nice three years ago, and now returns to Ligue 1 having made just shy of 50 appearances for the Whites.

Le Marchand was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League via the Play-Offs a year ago, featuring in our Second Leg meeting with Cardiff City, and the Final against Brentford at Wembley.

Everyone at Fulham would like to thank Max for his efforts during his time at the Club, and wish him the very best of luck back in France.

"I want to wish Maxime all the best for the next step of his career at Strasbourg," Tony Khan said. "He's a talented defender, and he's also a very kind person, earning the moniker of 'nicest man in the world' from his teammates and our staff.

"We very much enjoyed and value his contributions to Fulham since he first joined us in 2018; he'll be missed. Good luck Max!"

Seemed like a lovely bloke during his time here and clearly well liked by everyone at the club, players and staff alike. Had a few decent games for us over the last three years, though obviously surplus to requirements here now and probably for the best that he moves on, hopefully to a situation where he will start. Best of luck to him in France!

First of the seven players from the 2018 £100m Summer Spending Spree to move on.  Seemed like he just got caught up in the whole mess as some sort of makeweight to help the Seri transfer go through. Good luck to him, always seemed a nice chap!

Wish him the best although he was never the finished article for us.
It feels like one part of the puzzle currently being re assembled towards forging a team not just for success in the Championship but also beyond back into the Premiership.
A team currently being a work in progress, without the dreaded number of loans who as past experience has taught us mostly want to clear off following relegation.
Build a team who are capable of learning their job roles this season & who are mostly good & competent enough to do more than just survive back in the high life again (ref Stevie Winwood.)

Wish him well.  He may not have made it big at FFC but always thought he was a good defender for the Championship level.

Any idea how much we got for him? Usually there is always some amount floating about, but couldn't find anything?

(oh and yeah, wish him well! All around nice guy)

Good luck to him!

Its probably been explained in the past but why do clubs (almost always FFC) only report the fee as an "undisclosed fee"???
What do they gain by that?

Good luck to him. I always thought he was a better footballer than most people give him credit for. Unfortunately he also had a history of making critical mistakes in dangerous areas which is clearly not ideal for a CB. I remember someone on this forum described him as Ream with a beret and I think that pretty much sums it up. A fresh start at a new club seems like the right decision.

I'm not ITK, but my guess would be that if we sold him for cheap/free it would signal to other clubs that there are cheap deals to get at Fulham and weaker or negotiation position.

And likewise if they bought him for X amount it shows either how much they still got to spend this window or how desperate they are and drive up the price for the next signing.

Because it's absolutely not an American term.  TK wouldn't have encountered "moniker" much less use it!

Never quite made it at the Cottage and was going to have difficulty getting game time this season. I wish him the best of luck and think it is a good move for both him and Fulham.
We now have Hector, Tosin, Ream, Mawson and Odoi to fill the two center back positions. That should see us through the season, just hope no club pulls off a late snatch on Tosin.

Agree Twig - I wonder though whether Bill Clinton ever regrets encountering Moniker?

That is exactly it, if he had arrived at a different time, in a stable team, then he might of fared better. Wish him the best.

Its reported he was on £24,000 a week (£1,248,000 a year) so I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go on a free if we didn't have to pay his contract up and shifted his wages from the club.

I wouldn't say he was total garbage. That's unfair. He never inspired me with any confidence though. Anyhow, good luck to him, sounds a top geezer.

Does that give the accountants a head start on the Inland Revenue?

He will have gone on a free transfer almost certainly. The 'fee' we allegedly paid was apparently invented as part of the Seri deal, and on account of what I've seen of him I would say his value has stayed steady at £0

I wish him very good luck and was always impressed with his work ethic. he gave 100% every time he was called on. However, Inever thought he was the reequired standard, even for the chmpionship, and wonder how in the world we ever ended up signing him. I think the league he is going to be playing will suit him much better and hope he is a great success there.
