Just watched it on BBC1. Brought back some memories, it followed the fortunes of one of the last intakes for National Service (1960, I was 1958). The army bits were quite realistic.
Did anyone else do National Service? Still remember my army number. We will
Yes I did, conscripted into the RAF in 1957. Not always easy to get to Fulham games especially when sent to Malaya for 3 months.
We could do with some of that now, instead they get 'Love Island'.

Tony Macedo managed it OK.
You obviously weren't trying...or perhaps you weren't quite as good as him!
I think Fulham had to stump up £40 a time for his fare...you'd have thought the RAF would have had a plane or two to spare.
Can you imagine if they brought back national service today, would be interesting to see how it worked out
Called up for the RAF in November 1957, did my square bashing at West Kirby.
Blimey was it tater's.
Born in 1945 I missed that.
My dad, sadly no longer with us, was the last National Service man in his regiment (the Green Jackets). He was presented with a tankard by John Profumo.
In my opinion an absolute waste of 2 years
