Title: Chalobah
Post by: JimOG on November 28, 2021, 10:50:55 AM
Has anyone got news on Chalobah? Sadly like many, I've given up on Kongolo (pity - I saw him playing for Huddersfield and, if fit, he's be our best central defender and a better left back than Robinson or Bryan) but Chalobah is beginning to slip into the same mental category for me. His Brum cameo reminded us what a good player he can be and at 6ft 2ins an ideal DM.
If both these were available I genuinely think we'd win this division by a large margin.
Silva said he's be ready after the international break but I haven't even seen his name on eg an U23 match. Can anyone throw light on this?

Apparently out with a hamstring injury but he seems to have been out of action a long time ....

Perhaps being tall his hamstring isn't long enough. 🤔😃

Thanks - just didn't see this being reported anywhere. I think we'll need him

Watford reportedly let us have Chalobah on a free transfer. Perhaps there was a known injury risk.

He is certainly a better centre back than either Robinson or Bryan but better left back? That would mean Robinson & Bryan would be the 2nd & 3rd best left backs in this division!
He can do a job at loft back granted but his not better in that position than Antonee or Joe.

Five summer signings:- Qiuna and Chalobah hardly been seen, Gazzaniga clearly second string to Rodak, Muniz not ready yet, Wilson commanding a regular first team spot.
One success out of five signings, we need to do better as that success rate doesn't keep you in the Premier League.

At the last press conference Silva stated that Chalobah has progressed nicely and will be joining up with the first team squad on Monday,
I expect him to be part of the squad on Friday
👍🏻

I think that expecting him to be in the squad on Friday  is rather optimistic. Give him another week to get up to fitness.

I think we will need Chaolobah in the coming weeks and months. I'm not convinced that Seri can play in the winter months and Reed is not in great form at the moment.  I've also seen nothing to suggest that Onomah is going to make a first team spot his own.

Is Seri and Kebano heading for the Africa nation cup in Jan?  Hopefully we got enough cover

Only Seri absent for four weeks.

There is a big problem looming for the critical midfield trio.
Seri off to the African Nations
Carvalo possible transfer
Cairney not up to regular 90 minutes
Onomah has yet to show form
Reed great but is he going to play 26 games without injury
BDR will possibly be drafted in to replace Carvalho

Perhaps Silva should do some early Christmas shopping with renewed interest in Grimes.

I think Grimes just signed a new contract with Swansea. Would be surprised to see that one happening anymore.

As has been stated (but seemingly ignored) in other threads; we needed back up options/competition in goal and up front, which we got in Gazza and Muniz. Gazza has started a lot of games, and Muniz has already 3 goals to his name despite very limited game time. Wilson has been a success, and Chalobah has hardly been seen only because of injury, which happened after his arrival. Only Quina a miss so far, and that is only a loan. Seem like a pretty good window to me unless you do your best to put a negative spin on things.

Think Chalobah will become a key player as the season progresses

Seems to be right up there with Mawson and Onomah. He'll play 5-6 matches this season and about the right amount. Hope to be proven wrong; he is pretty highly rated by some.

Think we needed something a bit different against Preston and he might be the type of player. Also losing Seri for 4-6 weeks (plus possible recovery time?) so I too am hoping he gets fit and at his best soon.

The hard fact is that last season's players plus Wilson are the ones winning the promotion points for us.

Didn't gazza play 18 games? Chalobah was best player on pitch v brum, almost wholly injured since. I'll wait a little until I state the signings are flops or otherwise.

I like how you are presenting your opinion on what counts as a contribution to our success as 'hard facts'. But even if we pretend that you are correct, and we further pretend that what we have seen so far is sufficient evidence of all players future quality, what is the problem here? If we didn't need more than Wilson to complement our existing squad in order to dominate most games, why is it a problem that we just added some squad fillers? Is it bad business to acquire a player to be back up?

I am actually pleased that players like Mitro and Kebano have recovered from last season and are now commanding first teams places.
Just a little concerned that we havn't signed players capable of holding Championship places and an wondering if we are promoted how we will sign Premier quality players.

I've been wondering that. How many of our current starting X1 would start next season IF we are to stay up? I'd rather see us go for Nathan Phillips who impressed me playing for Liverpool. He reminds me of Dunk. I think I'd rather start there than Fungilini etc
