Title: What is our best starting 11 now?
Post by: StuinSalop on February 01, 2022, 09:26:59 AM
We have kept all our star players and added 1.  We have Seri, Robinson and BDR back and most fit apart from Tete who I am led to believe will not be out for too long.  Silva has the luxury of 2 very good players in each position, our defence which is considered our weakest area including goalkeeper is made up of full internationals apart from Tosin who one could argue is the best of the lot.  We have youth, energy and a great coach.  Maybe lack on field leadership but talent should overcome that.  What is our best midfield 2 from Seri, TC, Chalobah, Reed and Onomah?

I will have a go first.

—————————Rodak——————————
Williams———Tosin——Ream———Robinson
———————-Seri——Reed————————
Wilson—————Carvalho—————Kebano
—————————-Mitro——————————

Bench
Gass
TC
Chalobah
Tete
Muniz
BDR
Cav

That is some bench for the Championship!

Agree with this although Tete/Williams is fairly close Tete is better defensively though. I would also say TC over Seri on current form

Completely agree with this although Marcus needs a couple of clean sheets or Silva would be justified in changing things. And if Tete is still injured there is the question of RB. I guess it would be the new boy, Williams although I would have been happy to have given our own youth a chance given that Tete's injury doesn't seem to be too long term.

With everyone back and fit the manager will have some lovely selection headaches!

The only question I have is between Seri and Reed, TC must be a starter with his ability to control midfield and his distribution. Think the competition for his place has made him more aggressive on the pitch this season.

Agreed.

TC has done really well since coming back so, for me, Seri now has to fight to win that spot back from him.

That team would finish top half in the Championship fairly comfortably. Great squad depth!

I really don't know if a fit Tete or Williams get into the best 11, what I do know is that if either are not giving everything they will be out.  This is also true for nearly every position.  Where I think Williams may get the nod is his link up with Wilson.  What is for sure is that Silva will see them all in training and be able to say nobody's place is safe (maybe Mitro apart) and demand 100%.  Not sure about rotation but for sure that will be needed to some extent.  Seri for TC or the other way round which is my preference on say 60 mins keeps the player fresh and does not weaken the team.  Same to lesser extent with Reed and Chalobah.

I think we missed certain players especially Robinson and Tete v Blackpool.  Fullbacks are so important to team structure and attacking play these day, Williams looks very quick and I can imagine him on the right and Robinson on the left giving opposition teams a really tough time.

Yes, we have cover for every position but frankly I think that the real cover for Kebano, Carvalho and Wilson has to be BDR and BDR alone. If we have to bring either Knock. or Cav. into the starting line up then our attack loses bite and we are struggling badly for goals. These two have had plenty of opportunities and while they put in a hardworking shift they have on may occasions demonstrated their shortcomings in attack.
I really don't like being critical of any player but I do see the cover in these attacking positions as being our achilles heel.

              Rodak
Tete Tosin Mawson Robinson
        Chalobah Cairney
Wilson Stansfield Kebano
          Mitro

Ream and Reed don't deserve a start at the moment for me, our defence has been poor recently. And I don't think Fab should start purely cos of everything's that's happened, make sure he's up for it then get him back in. Would love Stansfield to get a go behind Mitro.

For me as I haven't seen Williams yet fully fit I would say

                         Rodak

Tete          Tosin       Kongolo       Robinson

                  Reed      Cairney

Wilson              Carvalho           Kebano

                          Mitro

Subs - Gazzaniga Williams Ream Seri Chalobah BDR Muniz

Fully fit Kongolo would be in our best team not sure we will ever see it which is a shame so Ream for Kongolo & Hector on the bench

I am so pleased that we have eight good players for the back four positions that should see us comfortably through the remaining 18 critical promotion chasing games. Most unlikely that we will see anything of Kongolo and we had best wipe him from our minds. Even if he is physically fit he must be so out of touch now that it would be a huge risk playing him, even for a short time as a sub.

i cant really comment until ive seen all the possible combinations of 2 from 3 of seri reed and cairney.  without cairney we lose a lot of creativity but we have enough players in the side to make up for that surely?

I honestly think we have massively underrated Hector, he was our best player when we first joined and key to our promotion, he didn't get much of a chance in the PL and was playing with some poor players.

Also I think Muniz could probably get 20 goals a season in the championship.

That team could probably scrape play off places.
