With 9 subs per team that is potentially 18 stoppages for subs to be made and also 10 minutes added time. Are there any other changes coming up
9 on the bench but only 5 can be used during the game.
The five substitutions can be made in three intervals during a game, but you cannot make five individual substitutes at separate intervals.
So only a maximum of 6 stoppages.
That's a relief thanks for that Bill

So only 87 other minutes for the players on the pitch to feign injury, dive and roll around, take the ball into the corners to 'entertain' paying fans.
It is getting more farcical every year.
This for me is another missed opportunity to give young players a pathway to the first team. They should have stipulated that the two extra players and substitutions should be academy players. If a team is winning or losing comfortably then give the youngsters some experience while resting the players you want to take off. This change of rule is only there to benefit the big clubs even more.
Teams were only allowed 1 sub, when football was football. The pre match names being announced will now take a couple of hours longer.
Us old codgers on here remember the time when no subs. Injured players, if they could still walk, moved to a wing. If a player went down he was injured, especially if Keetch had just tackled him. Oh happy days!

Yes, those were the days, I even remember injured keepers playing out in the wide positions because they could not be risked in goal.
No doubt that a replacement for a genuine injury was a move in the right direction but it really has gone too fat.
What is the benefit of increasing the number of subs to five other than giving even a bigger advantage to the big six.
It's a rule that helps the top 6 clubs who have more depth of squads ,for the rest think it works only for teams changing shape formations and getting results against weaker squads.

It's designed to stop players playing too much football and getting injured as a result. But watch at the next international break when they jet off to play friendlies etc. It's a joke that assists the biggest clubs who already have bloated squads. It enables them to keep more of the top players to the detriment of the rest.
Any guesses for who the top 6 will be next season and who will win the cups.

Would the year be 78AD?
I think we are all in agreement on this nonsense. Financial unfair play is bad enough but now to favour the big clubs, they can afford to have 9 internationals on the bench while the rest of us can give the kids some time. No end to what the money clubs will try to do in order to keep their place in the top 6.
